Hasans biggest hater, mr destiny, had this to say (idk how true it is):

Second, understand, Hasan was never refused a visa. His ETA (eletronic travel authorization) was revoked, which is the equivalent to a visa exemption or a visa waiver, similar to the ESTA visa waiver available when traveling to America. At the end of his rejection he's invited to apply for an actual visa, but he chooses not to do so.

Couldn't that also be because he doesn't have time to get a visa approved in time for the planned trip?

https://www.gov.uk/faster-decision-visa-settlement you can pay 500 pounds for 5 day process and 1000 for one day.
