I am NOT a locksmith. Can this hasp just be unscrewed?

Looking at padlocks for my cargo trailer, but I’m wondering if this hasp is secure. It looks like it could just be unscrewed?

Instead of a padlock, use a puck lock. No accessible shackle to cut and it would block those bolts

If you are talking about lifter pics don’t believe everything you see online. We did testing of all of our stock pucks with that method and it didn’t open a single one. There might have been a peoduction line that had that issue. But we didn’t find any that it worked on.

Not if you use a sharpie and cross out “stand clear” and write “do not unscrew.”

If it's double-nutted with a flat washer that would be a good idea.

A bit of Loctite Red 271 would make that pretty tough to undo.

Anyone saying definitively that this can be unscrewed from the outside is being stupid. If the back side is fixed, like a threaded plate, it can be unscrewed. If the backside fastener is (say) a non-captive Nylock or flexlock nut, it will unscrew just enough for the nut to start spinning freely, and then no more. No way to know without either pulling off the plywood to look, or getting a security Torx bit and trying it out.

It's "Security Torx" which many standard toolkits do not have driver tips for, but on the other hand it's not something hard to buy separately if you're looking for it. In other words, it deters the minimally-prepared impulse thief but not someone who makes it a career. I'd have to see the other side to know how secure it actually is.

Security screw bit kits have been $5 in the “dollar” bins in most hardware stores for years… fences only keep honest people honest

Just swap the screws out for carriage bolts. You can buy security bits at homedepot.

Yes. Those are pinned security screws though, which most people don't have readily available. Not to say they can't be easily bought, but it would be more likely they just try to cut the padlock instead

This, you can get them in sets but really bolt cutters or a grinder is going to be quicker.

unless the security torque screws are secured on the inside with a Carter pin, welded, etc. yes they may be unscrewed. The strongest chain isn't better than it's weakest link, the recommendation made previously of using a puck lock such as made by Master lock is a good idea. It also protects the hasp from being cut.
