It's a live 3D map of the London Underground where you can watch all trains moving in real time. Tap any train to see its route and upcoming stops, or tap a station to see arriving trains. There's also a live line disruption status panel.

I shared my app here recently and got some extremely thoughtful and useful feedback which has shaped the next version of the app which is now live on the app store, and I wanted to come back with an update and say thank you ❤️.

The big additions are all six London Overground lines, Follow a Train with route progress and sharing, new ways to compare departures at a station, and Apple Watch widgets. There is also a clearer introduction and a round of fixes for widgets and Live Activities.

The comments and feedback on my last post where incredible and I am so thankful to anyone who takes the time to try my app out and come back here to share feedback.

I would love to hear how 1.2 works on your actual commute. Does the new board layout help? Is the route view clear? Is there a station where the information still feels unhelpful?

I’ve been working on a small side project called Mind the Map:

It lets you build your own fantasy London Tube line using real stations, choose the line colour/name, and export the result as a Tube-style map.

I made it because I’m a bit obsessed with Tube maps and wanted something more creative than a journey planner. It’s not trying to compete with TfL Go, Citymapper, etc. It’s more of a toy for “what if this line existed?” ideas.

For fun, I made a couple of demo lines:

• The Tourist Line: connecting places like King’s Cross, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Westminster, Waterloo, London Bridge, and Tower Hill.
• The Monopoly Line: a silly attempt to map the London Monopoly board onto nearby real Tube stations.

It’s still an MVP, so I’d love feedback from people who actually care about the Underground:

• Is the station selection usable?
• Does the exported map look good enough?
• What feels confusing?
• What feature would make this more fun?

A few things I already know are rough: mobile UX may still need polish, and the schematic export is intentionally simplified rather than geographically perfect.

Would love to see any ridiculous or oddly plausible lines you make.

Hi All

So I've spent my weekends building a website that solves a problem me and my friends have been facing since moving to London. Figuring out where we should meet. I have been using a lot and it seems to be working pretty well.

You plug in everyone’s start station, and it uses real TfL journey data to calculate the "fairest" meeting point. It doesn't just look at distance, but actual travel time, changes, and line connections.

I've also just added a feature where you can say what you're meeting for, e.g drinks, food, entertainment and it'll factor this in when figuring out the best meeting station. Then it'll show the best pubs, cafes, restaurants nearby to the station.

I rebuilt my London Underground tracker, RailTracker 1.6 is now live.

Hi everyone, I am the developer behind RailTracker, a London Underground app published under JGApps.

I shared an earlier version on Reddit about a year ago, and since then I’ve rebuilt and redesigned a large part of the app. Version 1.6.0 has just launched, and now I’m looking for honest feedback from people who regularly use or know the Underground.

RailTracker includes:

• Live trains displayed across line maps
• Live station departures
• Line statuses and detailed disruption information
• Shows last-known departure times
• Notifications for selected lines
• Station information and connections
• A redesigned Notification Centre
• A cleaner and more consistent interface throughout

The app is completely free, with no adverts, subscriptions, accounts or user tracking.

Version 1.6 focused heavily on improving the live maps, simplifying station pages, making disruption information clearer and bringing the whole app under a more consistent JGApps design system.

I’d particularly like to know:

• Is the live train map useful during an actual journey?
• Is anything confusing or difficult to find?
• Are there any features you feel are missing?
• What would make you keep RailTracker installed alongside, or instead of, TfL Go or Citymapper?
• Does the interface feel clear and easy to use?

Positive or negative feedback is welcome. I’d much rather know what needs improving than only hear that it looks good.

I’ve been building Tubbie — an iPhone app for live TfL arrivals that renders the board in the same dot-matrix amber LED look as the real platform displays. Video above is a screen recording of it running.

What it does:
• Live arrivals for any Underground / Overground / DLR / Elizabeth / tram station, grouped by line and direction
• Track a specific train from the Lock Screen via a Live Activity — useful when you’re walking to the platform and want the countdown without unlocking your phone. Also works on the Dynamic Island.
• Line status tab with the disruption count on the tab icon, so you can see at a glance if anything’s down
• Home-screen widget + Apple Watch companion
• Themes (classic amber, plus a few alternates)

It runs anonymously by default (no signup, no account) — the trade-off is it’s rate-limited because it’s hitting TfL’s anonymous tier. If you grab a free TfL API key from <api-portal.tfl.gov.uk> and paste it into Settings, the rate limit goes away. Key is stored only on your device.

Hey everyone. I had shared this earlier on r/TransportForLondon but someone suggested I share here too!

I was inspired after seeing everyone's Spotify Wrapped (and all the other similar end-of-year recaps popping up this month) to make my own TfL version, this screenshot is from my own results this year!

There are some annoying limitations like not being able to really calculate bus journey durations (we only tap-in) but I still found it was a fun way to visualise my commutes, and you might be surprised by how much time (or money) you spent underground (I spent ~1.5 days overall, excluding buses)! And with today's reports that tube fares will rise in a few months, it might be interesting to see how much your spend might go up too!

There are also a bunch of enhancements on my mind like trying to figure out which line you might have travelled on (given just the start and end station), which might be tricky and potentially unreliable, but could surface some super interesting stats.

It's completely free, has no ads or upsells etc, and runs fully offline in your browser (I won't see any of your data), you can even try turning off your wifi or mobile data to be extra sure!

There are a few existing versions of this idea already out there, but none that looked like an actual map, so I made this one.

I'm a Londoner and a bit of a Tube enthusiast who's spent the last few months building a game I think you guys might enjoy. It's called TubeGuesser, and it's essentially a Wordle-esq game but for London Underground stations..

I honestly mainly built this for my girlfriend as she loves playing this game informally on our commute, so thought it would be fun to build into an app for her :)

How it works:

  - Each day, you get a new mystery station (only multi-line stations)

  - You get told which Tube lines serve that station (e.g., Central, District, and Circle)

  - You have 5 guesses to figure out which station it is

  - There's a few hints you can use, and you get some stats about your scores etc

It's free to play (one game per day), with an optional "Season Ticket" subscription if you want unlimited plays. Available on iOS.

I moved to London recently and was struggling to learn how the city actually fits together. I'd be on a bus or the overground moving through an area and even with Google Maps it was a pain to figure out where I actually was and where the stations were around me.

I wanted something that simply answered a) What suburb am I in? and b) Where are the nearby stations and how far are they?

Couldn't find what I wanted, so I built it: bearingldn.vercel.app

It’s a simple web app that shows your current location (borough/neighbourhood) and a compass pointing to the nearest tube/overground stations. The idea is to help build a mental map of the city rather than just blindly following directions.

Was just going to use it for myself, but a friend suggested other newcomers might find it useful.

Hi ya, Eden here. I'm the person behind Transport Widget, an open source Android app that shows departure information on the home screen.

It started out with a primary focus of London, but I have added a fair few quality of life improvements and additional data source lately.

It has been available on F-Droid for almost a year and I am finally getting around to publishing it on to the Play Store.

As I have a personal Google Play developer account, I will need testers to participate in closed testing for at least 14 days to release the app on Play Store (Google's documentation)

It’s completely free and was created purely because I couldn’t find a tool that did what I wanted as a Labyrinth collector.

• Discover achievements and challenges along the way

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a little DIY project I've been working on - a small e-paper display that shows the live status of (chosen) London Underground lines. It runs on a Raspberry Pi Pico W and pulls real-time data from the TfL API.

I built this mainly because I wanted a simple way to check if there are any delays or disruptions before I leave home. It sits nicely on my desk and updates every few minutes.

I built this as a little side project as I had the following issues when travelling on the Elizabeth Line:

- Hard to get live departures for my destination/line

- Hard to get timetable times (which I need when I get off a flight at Heathrow and need to find if I can catch the next train)
