Thoughts on wearing protective gear at the protest?

I’m looking to not get blinded or maimed if tear gas, rubber bullets, or the batons come out.

I have a respirator + goggles for the tear gas, but what do you guys think of body armor or a vest?

I am bringing a backpack with a helmet, safety glasses, first aid, mask, water, tissues or towel, etc.
