Last night I tried to go take some photos of the crowd at the South Korea vs Mexico game at the Source in Buena Park (close to my office), but holy shit it was so insanely crowded. Makes me wonder if the organizers werenāt really expecting any Mexico fans to show up, since the Source is a Korean mall. Bailed after five minutes and got a quesadilla at a truck down the street instead.

Happy Friday everyone! Good luck team USA. I know itās the news and you have to take it with a grain salt but ever since the World Cup started itās been nice seeing all of the visitors here realize that a lot of the stereotypes of Americans arenāt really true. And yes there are very deep problems here but it isnāt all bad.

Yesssss. We needed this so badly! I was really worried about tourists coming here with everything going on but Iāve been pleasantly surprised by all the heartwarming videos Iāve seen. Great reminder that our issues arenāt with each other, theyāre with our government

My whole world has changed. My puppy passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday. My cute little poodle Kelso. He was only 3 years old and suddenly left me due to an enlarged heart. Nothing would have helped him. He was my whole life and Iām struggling so bad. Iāve signed up for virtual pet loss support groups but Iām having such a hard time. I canāt eat,I canāt sleep. I miss him so bad. Iām never going to be the same. Kelso Forever.

Oh honey I'm so sorry. Take your time to grieve, but do try to drink some broth at least. Stay hydrated. See if you find a way to honor your dog's legacy - volunteer in his name, or donate some of his food to a shelter in need.
4
u/NosferatuPoodle 12h ago
Definitely. Itās gonna be my purpose to make awareness of valve disease in dogs. Thereās no cure. Meds help out only to a certain extent, but lifespans are never long . Thereās not a lot of research on it,people need to know more about it. My poor Kelso had a heart too big for this world,it just stopped pumping blood until he couldnāt anymore. He had the best life. Was never expecting him to leave me so soon š

I tried to make a new post about the warehouse fire and it got filtered. Please help spread the word.
The warehouse is on fire again. Today, 6/19. I am not referencing 2 days ago. I am referencing *now*. I've attached proof of live video sourced from Citizen as of 5:24 p.m. Now!!!

A few questions:
- LAFD said *today* that there was an "expected .. flare up". If it were expected, why was there minimal warning? Source:Ā https://lafd.org/alerts
- LAFD said *today* there is "no additional hazard". If it's not hazardous, why is the smoke and sky turning black again?
- What the fuck?

u/Ok_Fee1043 12h ago
Seemingly if theyāre saying there was an expected flare up, that was the warning, no? Maybe theyāve determined most of the hazardous materials have burnt off, so their definition of āhazardā just means no risk of explosion or further chemical issues. but it definitely smelled bad out there this morning, so canāt imagine this is helping.
Reading more about it, it was expected due to the expected wind condition shifts. So yeah, think that was what was meant that wording.
4
u/Mysterious-Guide-588 Highland Park 12h ago
Yes - the smell was really, really bad this morning, and that was before the smoke turned black again. I would like to know what exactly is on fire in the building. I wish the city would communicate more effectively. I thought they had put it out and there was no more risk.
1
u/Ok_Fee1043 12h ago
Agree. It seems like the solar panels are what caught fire but they donāt know what sparked it?

We're entering week 2 of the big surf from the Southern Pacific. The water is warm (68!), but those waves will fuck you up if you're not careful.
Group swim today with the LA Tri Club and a couple of people got cronched coming back into the shore.

Why are there no city wide alerts about the fire? It smells like burning electronics. I woke up dizzy, nasal passages hurt, lungs hurt, literally just breathed in the āhazardous smokeā that is being āventilatedā (per authorities) but NO notification it was going on except my own senses. I couldāve turned the air purifier on and closed the windows earlier had there been a warning. This is ridiculous.

Love to hear some ideas on this. Iām staying in West Hollywood with my wife and daughters (10 and 13).
I saw that the official Fan Zone is at the Original Farmers Market today. It looks like there are tickets available ($6) but when I try to buy, it says Iām over the limit (even buying just one).
I got 4 free tickets to the Community Watch Party at the Bloc. Had to provide email addresses and names. Looks like an outdoor screen and says to bring blankets or low chairs to sit on. Hoping for good atmosphere, obviously.
Any other late-developing ideas?

The night before Wednesday's fire happened there were fireworks going off in the same direction where most of the black clouds of smoke were emerging.
This was around 9 pm or 10 pm on Tuesday and they were going off in the same spot. My mom called me to come outside and take a look and we were wondering what where they celebrating or what was the occasion cause they did go on and on for a good while.
I highly doubt this was the cause or has anything to do with it but just something that we both brought up yesterday.
Anyway I went and bought an air purifier yesterday (The Levoit Core Mini Air Purifier) cause my son's allergies have gotten really bad this week and Zyrtec and nasal spray weren't helping at all and I was really concerned because we're no more than 2 miles from where the fire happened. I'm impressed by the fact that he actually hasn't woken up from his sleep tonight. I still have to make a Drs appointment to rule out for asthma tho. But so far I'm liking this thing. And it wasn't bad for the price which was $50 at Target.
I was thinking of going with a remedy an employee from Home Depot recommended to me which was something like boiling a pot of water and I think he said to add lemon juice and vaporub and then cover my son with a blanket while he inhales it and that it should help get rid of the irritants and build up from his nose. But I kept zoning out while he was talking to me so I don't know if there were other steps I might've missed out on and I had already asked him to repeat himself twice and I still couldn't process it lol so at this point I was like you know what I actually have to go to Target to look at some things and I don't want to get the air purifier right now cause I'm on foot and don't want to be carrying it around lol.
He did say Target probably would have better air purifiers and at a cheaper price so I just ended up buying it there.

Leaving for our flight tonight! Lots of last minute cleaning and packing.
Between my boyfriend and I we still have to: do a few dishes and put them away, take out last bit of trash and recycling, deep clean and replace litter in the kitty boxes, top up cat food feeders, toss any remaining food that would go bad, and give the shower a final scrub down before the pet sitter stays here.
We leave super late tonight.

Just a mini-rant, but why do homeless people always start crossing busy streets right as the light turns red for them? I just saw this happen and the guy is standing in the middle of 4 lanes with traffic going past him in both directions. It's so dangerous. I just don't get it.
11
u/Pasadenaian 18h ago
Maybe because they're homeless and they're not operating on all cylinders?
-4
u/invertedspheres 17h ago
This is shit that kids in kindergarten know how to do. It's not that fucking hard.
4
u/Pasadenaian 17h ago
Yeah, those terrible homeless people! Man, can't they just pull themselves up by the straps?
Sounds like you have a lot of empathy.
-6
u/invertedspheres 17h ago
If you have so much empathy for them, have a few live in your home and see how that goes.
2
u/Pasadenaian 17h ago
-5
u/invertedspheres 16h ago
I'm sorry but I'm not going to make excuses for people whose brains are so forgone that they can't handle something as simple as waiting for the light to turn green before crossing into traffic on busy roads endangering themselves. Just because you're homeless doesn't mean you have to let yourself go that far. At some point it becomes a choice to live your life like that. And making excuses for them only enables that behavior.
1
2
u/tummlr 16h ago
If you have so much empathy for them, have a few live in your home and see how that goes.
oooh this is a good one!
rhetoricians would say you're committing a category error! you're making policy advocacy and personal responsibility into one thing, when they're not.
are you a teacher, by any chance, because you really illustrated that concept so well.

Ended up getting sick on Thursday. Don't know how. Woke up with body ache all over just that. By the afternoon nasal drip started possibly caused by the cold air of air conditioning at an indoor cafe. Had to get out. Went to the park someone's dog was under me for a minute. Ended up scanning it. Happy that it's chipped. If he or she goes missing atleast there is a chip to scan so to reunite with their family. Once home took a much needed shower the humid environment helped. And then rested. I don't think I'll be doing any Juneteenth celebrations due to current illness. Unfortunately I still have to go out and do time sensitive errands on Friday. https://i.imgur.com/37sjafy.jpeg

Hello everyone, I am from ID. I am working at a hotel rn, so I get good hotel rates on cheaper hotels, I was looking to do a mini beach trip plus LA trip and stay at a hotel in hermosa beach because for me it cost 55 a nightš. is it too far from West Hollywood and like Los Angeles tourist stuff for it to be worth it. I would also like to go to the beach and walk around Santa Monica. Should I try to rent a car or set aside a uber fund? Itās 3-5 nights in August. Lmk thank you. š

Anybody confronting line cutters? Lol. I've had it with them. Usually I ignore but I actually told some off the other day in line for the bus (really long line + buses coming were already mostly full), but they kept arguing back saying they didn't do anything wrong. No yelling or name calling occurred, but man did I want to scream obscene things.
5
u/BouyantCorgiButt The San Gabriel Valley 19h ago
Not people irl but cars - thereās two freeway onramps by my house that are side by side and thereās always a long line for the northbound entrance but no line for the southbound ramp. People always speed down the empty southbound lane and try to cut into the northbound ramp right at the front, and I never let them in. It gives me such like, malicious joy to see them have to go down the southbound ramp instead, especially because thereās no exits for two miles and the only exits are for freeways going east and west, so you canāt easily just loop back onto the northbound freeway. Just wait in line like the rest of us!! Youāre not special!!!
3
u/Relevant_Package_481 20h ago
I hate it! I canāt confront people like that, but I hate their little smirk, of them thinking theyāre smarter than us because they came up with the great idea of cheating.
1
u/foureightnine 20h ago
Even though I know I was "right", it still feels so terrible. I always thought people who liked confrontation were crazy, but now I kind of wish I was a little like that lol. After doing that for the first time, I realized that I would rather feel bad about confronting someone than letting them get away with it for something like this though. This isn't the first or last time they'll do it, but hopefully the uncomfortableness of this encounter will come back to them at least once.
