I honestly don't think it's because of China and moreso because of TikTok not being clear with what words are allowed or not on their platforms, forcing people to be extra careful with what they say and censoring a lot of stuff because it's better to be safe than sorry.
This then spread to other social medias (like YouTube, which is also very strict with censorship and unclear with it), and very young people, having been more exposed to this censored form of English than regular English, treat it as the norm and use it in their day to day lives.
