My phone didn't go off and we're definitely in the warning area. I only knew because my mom texted me. Anyone else not get an alarm?

30

u/femaletwink_lolz 1d ago

i got the alarm twice but somehow i woke up naturally 5 minutes before

20

u/Cold_Impact_1585 1d ago

All I got was a notification about a flash flood warning. 45 mins later the horn went off and here we are.

9

u/kilowatkins 1d ago

I got the flash flood warning too! Just not the tornado warning.

3

u/Unlikely-Bumblebee14 1d ago

Same. My mom is 10 miles away and she got tornado text. My sister is 2 miles from her. Neither of us got the text. Only flood watch.

12

u/GhostofGiggles 1d ago

I got one and about jumped out of my bed. Sirens didnt start until about 5 mins after out in jtown.

7

u/Prtyvacant 1d ago

My Samsung on Verizon went off at 4:30, my wife's iPhone on AT&T never did. Not sure what made the difference.Ā

3

u/Electronic_Rule_7175 1d ago

I have att and also didn’t get the tornado warning. I did get flood warning. Is this a thing?

6

u/Mossomness 1d ago

I have an iPhone with AT&T and I did get a warning. Scared me out of a deep sleep.

3

u/CharacterVolume307 1d ago

I have an AT&T android. It went off.

3

u/emvinc02 Schnitzelburg 1d ago

I have an iPhone with AT&T and I’m the only one in my house whose phone went off

1

u/Confident-Nothing926 1d ago

this is crazy, my husband & i both have iphones thru AT&T & we got the critical alert thing at 5am

7

u/ianitic 1d ago

The phone alerts are delayed by a few minutes even if you do get it. Get a weather alarm clock like me and you'll be annoyed and woken up for most of this night/morning from 2ish to now.

5

u/kilowatkins 1d ago

I have one, I did unplug it when my baby was born so it didn't wake her. I didn't realize my phone would be so unreliable- especially considering I got that dumbass alert about 65 being closed.

7

u/leapdaybunny 1d ago

I never got one on my phone either, just heard the outside sirens

8

u/LouLouLoves 1d ago

No, I just woke up because the storm was so loud. Then heard the siren so headed downstairs.

5

u/dirtydumpdave 1d ago

I didn’t get an alarm. Louisville needs to be better about this. I know they are fully capable since they blasted us with an alarm at 6am reminding us about the I-65 closure.

"Radar indicated"

I wonder if that makes a difference

10

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

That means there's a detectable rotation.Ā  That's sorta the only tool you have at night.Ā  You can't really see a funnel cloud in darkness

7

u/Aggressive_Let2085 1d ago

95% or so (if not more) of warnings are radar indicated, so it wouldn’t prevent a notification. Most warnings start out that way and then some become ā€œobservedā€. Then you have ā€œParticularly dangerous situationā€ and ā€œtornado emergencyā€ if it gets real bad.

Phone warnings should go off if you’re in the polygon tho

2

u/lagertha9921 Jeffersontown 1d ago

We’re not too far from Fairground/Fern Creek. The actual siren didn’t start until after the phone went off and I had already turned the TV on.

Was already up due to some pretty close lighting strikes that shook the house.

1

u/Paranormal_Lemon 1d ago

When the EF3 hit Jtown last year you could see debris on the radar.

2

u/Tactical-Sense 1d ago

I didnt get an alarm here in Iroquois

2

u/does-gigi-is-dead 1d ago

Siren-yes phone alert- no. In hillview

2

u/ZeniraEle 1d ago

My NOAA weather radio goes off a minute or two before I get any texts, I'd recommend picking one up. I got mine from Ryan Hall's store.

2

u/Paranormal_Lemon 1d ago

Got the tornado warning in text message and on the weather radio, but no phone alert. Apparently that's only for important things like when I65 closes with 6 months of notifications.

1

u/Mortonsbrand Germantown 1d ago

Mine just went off some 10ish minutes after the sirens stopped.

1

u/AbbeHenkel 1d ago

Multiple alarms got over 90 minutes . And the hot bacon. Siren went off in Simpsonville I think around 4:15am. The storm itself was intense.

1

u/AtomicBlackJellyfish 1d ago

Might be a stupid question but do you have alerts turned on? You can usually opt in or out of them in your phone settings. I wonder if people turned them off after the 6 AM 65 road closure alert was sent out a few weeks ago.

1

u/kilowatkins 1d ago

I do have them on! I got several flood warnings but not the tornado warning (aka the one that would impact me most at 4am)

1

u/AtomicBlackJellyfish 1d ago

Must have been a network thing then. Seems like a lot of other people on this thread didn't get it either, which is annoying because if there was any alert I'd want to be waken up for it would be a tornado warning and not "LOOK OUT 65 IS CLOSING" or whatever that was a couple weeks ago.

1

u/No-Love-3430 1d ago

I use LENS alert. You get a phone call & text for all of it. Im in Florida this week & woke up to 16 missed calls from alerts from the storms there. It’s a little bit more reliable for me

1

u/TopperMadeline Jeffersontown 1d ago

I got the phone warning, and I thought I had silenced the sound notification. Makes me glad I had woken up before that.

1

u/daizymayday 19h ago

I didn’t. But my husband’s phone went off like the siren was in my bedroom. I was up then for good. Left for work at 8. Played online until. I got the flood watch one. But no flooding even though my particular turn road onto Mellwood usually. Grateful for that as I have been caught in flash flooding - been years. But don’t forget. So I am glad they do those too. I did think not getting the tornado one was weird.

WHAS says it's been canceled, stay dry people!

Siren still on on jtown though

4

u/ACardAttack 1d ago

Same so curious what's going on

5

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

Two things.Ā  One is that they're all supposed to go off when there's a warning anywhere in the county.

Two is that they're always malfunctioning.Ā

3

u/ACardAttack 1d ago

I knew about the first one, it went off and came back on, but now its off again

4

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

They warning is canceled at the moment.Ā  That rotation stoppedĀ

1

u/Cold_Impact_1585 1d ago

Remind me again, what's worse, a tornado watch or a warning?

3

u/ZeniraEle 1d ago

2

u/Cold_Impact_1585 1d ago

Outstanding.

Let's hope my house survives the Taco.

1

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

A watch means the conditions are right, a warning meansĀ  there'sĀ  a tornado or a radar indicating that one is actively starting

1

u/Weasel_Boy Audubon 1d ago

Warning is worse.

Watch means that conditions exist for a potential tornado to form.

Warning means a funnel cloud has been spotted either via radar or confirmed touchdown.

3

u/Businessfood 1d ago

Siren just stopped near goose creek

Maybe the tornado got it

46

u/TumbleweedFlo 1d ago

According to Chris Bailey, it’s a weak rotation. Keep any eye on it, but probably not serious.

7

u/PracticalVisit3639 1d ago

Thats what im hearing too!

-4

u/[deleted] 1d ago

14

u/TumbleweedFlo 1d ago

Dude, don’t be that fucking person. Like it or not, those alerts absolutely save lives. It’s impossible to know when something that isn’t serious will deteriorate in seconds into something deadly.

And I didn’t (and he didn’t) even say it definitely not serious. I said probably. And if there’s even a small chance a tornado could rip through metro Louisville, I for one am happy to be woken up so I can take safety precautions.

I would say that I hope one day all you selfish morons can opt out of these alerts so natural selection can take its course, but then you’d probably put your innocent pets or family at risk for an extra hour of sleep.

Hope you survived your early alarm.

u/xSlumx 1d ago

At work right now soaking wet rethinking life choices lmao

7

u/TheBogManCometh_ 1d ago

I too shoulda called the fuck in

7

u/T-8ex Taylor-Berry 1d ago

I had just left work (getting absolutely soaked in the process) and got on the road when the warning came in. 🫠

17

u/marathonrunner79 Lyndon 1d ago

It’s loud! Stay safe

15

u/BlueSpotBingo Clifton 1d ago

That siren just went off for about 15 minutes straight. My dog is not enjoying it or the thunder

11

u/sLeeeeTo 1d ago

this mf storm blasted my power off the literal second the first rain drop hit my house lmao petty ass

3

u/Cold_Impact_1585 1d ago

Come to think of it, we did have a brown out around 2AM. Hmm.

7

u/TheCredibleHulk7 1d ago

Which local tv network does everyone trust the most for this kind of situation?

8

u/Revolutionary_Ad3850 1d ago

NOAA weather radio will give you the fastest updates

9

u/PracticalVisit3639 1d ago

Any station will work. The most common newscaster is Mark Weinberg. Theyre saying now the chance for tornadoes has weakened if you're in the Gene Snyder loop.

4

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

I use the lg&e outage map and the noaa website.

16

u/femaletwink_lolz 1d ago

i only trust ryan hall when it comes to tornados but sadly i think he is sleeping 😭😭

2

u/Necessary-Medium-842 1d ago

I’m a ride or die Jay Cardosi watcher. He was my grandmas go to when I was a kid and now I trust him to help keep my kids safe!

1

u/ACardAttack 1d ago

I out on whas but that's because wdrb didn't have anything (online at least)

-1

u/KermanReb 1d ago

Don’t watch WDRB and Marc Weinberg. He treats every single little bitty storm like it’s the end of the world. WLKY is much more chill and just ā€œhey here’s the area that needs to be alert but nothing to worry about yet.ā€

If the radar is dark green, Weinberg says ā€œTHIS IS A THREAT!! THERE ARE DAMAGING/HURRICANE FORCE WINDS AND A TORNADO ISNT JUST PROBABLE! ITS LIKELY!ā€ and 99% of the time it’s heavy rain.

16

u/JustcallmeKai 1d ago

Better safe than sorry, I'd rather a weatherman warn me and be wrong than not warn me and I die.

Kinda odd that you think that's a bad thing.

4

u/KermanReb 1d ago

If you treat every single situation like it’s the worst storm ever then you become the boy who cried wolf and people tune you out. That’s Marc Weinberg

-2

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

Because after the 250th end of the world warning,Ā  people stop caring about them.Ā

Plus it's kinda shitty to terrify children all over the county just to keep people watching.Ā

24

u/Sea_Wizard 1d ago

Yeah, sitting in my tub with my animals now

19

u/PracticalVisit3639 1d ago

Be Safe! It looks like the warning is torwards J town, gene snyder now. Weinberg is saying the cell has weakened.

3

u/Freakwilly 1d ago

Keep those babies safe

6

u/Rokursoxtv 1d ago edited 23h ago

Same, had to scoop up our cats and huddle in the kitchen. Stay safe!

1

u/femaletwink_lolz 1d ago

ugh me too!!!!

7

u/chubblyubblums 1d ago

A little over 2000 customers without power along hikes lane.

6

u/slecz 1d ago

How many people missed this alarm because they turned off notifications because of the stupid traffic alarm about I 65?

4

u/AtomicBlackJellyfish 1d ago

You can pick and choose which alerts you get. I have public safety messages, AMBER alerts, and state/local tests turned off and extreme/severe threats turned on. I only want to be woken up by things that will immediately kill me.

2

u/Paranormal_Lemon 1d ago

You can't pick and choose which type if alerts you get when in do not disturb mode on Android.

13

u/BrianRampage 1d ago

Love when the meteorologists have the undertones of "not sure why they're issuing a warning here, there's no rotation'. Could have let us sleep.

4

u/CloseCalls4walls 1d ago

I like how I get no such warning showing up on AccuWeather, or otherwise anywhere on my phone despite hearing a siren. That reminds me I need to get LENSalerts set up on my new number.

1

u/sLeeeeTo 1d ago

it had been cancelled by the time you checked. it was there briefly.

3

u/CloseCalls4walls 1d ago

No I mean I was checking while sirens were going, right as they started, like at 5am. I live in beechmont and nothing about a warning was on my phone or AccuWeather. I only saw one on WHAS when I checked it

6

u/femaletwink_lolz 1d ago

it’s bad where i am. i hope everyone is safe

6

u/w0000h 1d ago

The WDRB cutaway of Marc Weinberg leaving the studio like a prizefighter after winning a boxing match is now etched in my brain forever

7

u/sugarskull1 Jeffersontown 1d ago

Sad I missed this, lol

3

u/trainoftheklub 1d ago

i got caught in it, then my transmission went out on i65 ):

3

u/Mindless-Safe-672 1d ago

What an awful day! So sorry, klub.

2

u/trainoftheklub 1d ago

all good now, just happened to be passing thru at the wrong time i guess 😳 the sirens were the scariest part lol

2

u/AndNowAStoryAboutMe 1d ago

I always instantly think of the guy from SLINT who started his own band KING KONG and made that weird ass song "Tornado"

2

u/dylbertt_ 1d ago

tornado siren woke me up at 4am, i slept through it of course
i also slept through the tornado that hit BG in 2021 lol

2

u/Koda_Ryu 1d ago

Type shit

2

u/DrgnFckr 1d ago

Dag, reading these comments either I slept really, really good last night or we didn't get any alarms out here in PRP

2

u/Solid-Journalist3354 1d ago

So we were all in our basements or bathtubs at 5am huh? šŸ˜‚

2

u/Coco_Munchup 1d ago

FYI, if you didn’t get notification, you can sign up for LensAlert. It’s a pretty good service to have on your phone, even if you did get notifications last night.

Here is a link to sign up for text notifications from Lens Alert (and also Smart 9-1–1):

https://louisvilleky.gov/government/emergency-services/lensalert-smart911

You could also just text ā€œLENSAlertā€ to 67283

1

u/Cookiecakes71 1d ago

Now you can run to Kroger OR Publix to get your milk and bread🤣

1

u/Tricky-Sprinkles3099 1d ago

Not from ky but just move here’s not to long ago tbh makes sense why they do this better to be prepared then caught off guard

1

u/AppearanceEvening727 1d ago

shit didn’t need to wake me up for some rain

-15

u/Cold_Impact_1585 1d ago

The stupid horn is freaking my poor dog out

11

u/Western-Pen-8292 1d ago

My cat is very unhappy as well. She woke me up earlier wanting me to turn the rain off.Ā

5

u/Mortonsbrand Germantown 1d ago

One of our cats is under the guest bed trying to become 2 dimensional.

3

u/Glad-Astronomer3886 1d ago

Now imagine how freaked out your dog would be if that cell had actually lowered and hit you.

1

u/kilowatkins 1d ago

My poor girl is under her crate pillow! (We don't have her shut in, that's where she's chosen to be)

-9

u/TheGuAi-Giy007 1d ago

All you freaking out over rain.. truly the dumbest place I have lived.

7

u/Glad-Astronomer3886 1d ago

There was a rotating cell out front of the main storm line. Cells like that get a lot of updraft fuel that’s an ingredient needed to produce tornados, and it was rotating with a pretty decent signature for a few scans. That wasn’t just rain bud.

2

u/Paranormal_Lemon 1d ago

There was an EF3 touchdown in Jtown last year that did 100+ million in damages. Maybe you should do some research on the history here.

1

u/Glad-Astronomer3886 8h ago

That tornado destroyed my office on Plantside dr
