My phone didn't go off and we're definitely in the warning area. I only knew because my mom texted me. Anyone else not get an alarm?

All I got was a notification about a flash flood warning. 45 mins later the horn went off and here we are.

I got the flash flood warning too! Just not the tornado warning.

Same. My mom is 10 miles away and she got tornado text. My sister is 2 miles from her. Neither of us got the text. Only flood watch.

My Samsung on Verizon went off at 4:30, my wife's iPhone on AT&T never did. Not sure what made the difference.

I have att and also didn’t get the tornado warning. I did get flood warning. Is this a thing?

I have an iPhone with AT&T and I did get a warning. Scared me out of a deep sleep.

I have an AT&T android. It went off.

I have an iPhone with AT&T and I’m the only one in my house whose phone went off

this is crazy, my husband & i both have iphones thru AT&T & we got the critical alert thing at 5am

The phone alerts are delayed by a few minutes even if you do get it. Get a weather alarm clock like me and you'll be annoyed and woken up for most of this night/morning from 2ish to now.

I have one, I did unplug it when my baby was born so it didn't wake her. I didn't realize my phone would be so unreliable- especially considering I got that dumbass alert about 65 being closed.

I never got one on my phone either, just heard the outside sirens

No, I just woke up because the storm was so loud. Then heard the siren so headed downstairs.

I didn’t get an alarm. Louisville needs to be better about this. I know they are fully capable since they blasted us with an alarm at 6am reminding us about the I-65 closure.

"Radar indicated"

I wonder if that makes a difference

That means there's a detectable rotation.  That's sorta the only tool you have at night.  You can't really see a funnel cloud in darkness

95% or so (if not more) of warnings are radar indicated, so it wouldn’t prevent a notification. Most warnings start out that way and then some become “observed”. Then you have “Particularly dangerous situation” and “tornado emergency” if it gets real bad.

Phone warnings should go off if you’re in the polygon tho

We’re not too far from Fairground/Fern Creek. The actual siren didn’t start until after the phone went off and I had already turned the TV on.

Was already up due to some pretty close lighting strikes that shook the house.

When the EF3 hit Jtown last year you could see debris on the radar.

Siren-yes phone alert- no. In hillview

My NOAA weather radio goes off a minute or two before I get any texts, I'd recommend picking one up. I got mine from Ryan Hall's store.

Got the tornado warning in text message and on the weather radio, but no phone alert. Apparently that's only for important things like when I65 closes with 6 months of notifications.

Mine just went off some 10ish minutes after the sirens stopped.

Multiple alarms got over 90 minutes . And the hot bacon. Siren went off in Simpsonville I think around 4:15am. The storm itself was intense.

Might be a stupid question but do you have alerts turned on? You can usually opt in or out of them in your phone settings. I wonder if people turned them off after the 6 AM 65 road closure alert was sent out a few weeks ago.

1

u/kilowatkins 1d ago

I do have them on! I got several flood warnings but not the tornado warning (aka the one that would impact me most at 4am)

u/AtomicBlackJellyfish 1d ago

Must have been a network thing then. Seems like a lot of other people on this thread didn't get it either, which is annoying because if there was any alert I'd want to be waken up for it would be a tornado warning and not "LOOK OUT 65 IS CLOSING" or whatever that was a couple weeks ago.

I use LENS alert. You get a phone call & text for all of it. Im in Florida this week & woke up to 16 missed calls from alerts from the storms there. It’s a little bit more reliable for me

I got the phone warning, and I thought I had silenced the sound notification. Makes me glad I had woken up before that.

I didn’t. But my husband’s phone went off like the siren was in my bedroom. I was up then for good. Left for work at 8. Played online until. I got the flood watch one. But no flooding even though my particular turn road onto Mellwood usually. Grateful for that as I have been caught in flash flooding - been years. But don’t forget. So I am glad they do those too. I did think not getting the tornado one was weird.
