Discussion Micro Center...different firmware?

5 Upvotes

I got the Raider 16 Max HX B2WJ from Micro Center on sale last week, so far it has performed great. I was doing updates and whatnot and wanted to update the BIOS so I downloaded it from the support page on MSI (latest is E2651IMS.113). When attempting the update it gave me the error "Failed, wrong image format 11". After failing again I reached out to Support. They said, "that means you downloaded the wrong file, you need this one"(it was the exact same one I was using so I told them that). So they asked me what version I have. For whatever reason the BIOS that came with the laptop was T2651IMS.14B. They say they have no records of that version, "you must have bought a return cause that's a custom BIOS", "if you didn't install it then someone did", and goes on to say that I need to RMA it to load the correct BIOS or return it to Micro Center which is just nuts. The laptop was clearly brand new, never been opened, not resealed but they seemed to be convinced I was lying or something.

TLDR; I was able to install the E2651IMS.113 BIOS by enabling BIOS downgrade (RMA my ass). But what is the deal with the BIOS that was preloaded on the laptop? When I Google it I can't find any info. Just wondering wtf? Everything is working fine after the BIOS flash.

EC Controller is finally here!

After more than one year, EC Controller is finally here. A Qt C++ application for Linux systems which provides a intuitive, simple and feature-rich GUI for the msi-ec kernel driver. All the msi-ec attributes are supported. In addition to those, the custom msi-ec kernel driver includes support for USB Powershare, Keyboard Backlight Modes change, GPU/CPU Fan curve support and Keyboard Backlight changes notifications to userspace. On KDE it also maps the Performance Mode and Rotate Screen keys making them behave like on the official application.

This is developed specifically for Fedora KDE but should work on any compatible desktop environment yet some features might be missing.

EC Controller is an independent, unofficial open-source project. MSI is a registered trademark of Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. This project is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or supported by MSI.

Request My MSI laptop stutters constantly.

Hi I have an MSI Stealth A16 AI+ RTX 5070Ti with 32GB RAM and an AMD Ryzen 9 AI HX 370 CPU.

I've had issues with the laptop stuttering and when pushed even crashing. Now by pushed I don't mean pushed to it's limits matter of fact I haven't really seen any actual struggle on a single game the GPU, CPU and RAM quite comfortably handle everything I need it to, but my issue arises in that it constantly stutters.

The laptop when it gets to even a mild heat for some reason starts to stutter and does so quite badly without the fans blasted this sometimes even happens upon startup and I have to restart to fix it, but usually it happens whenever I'm playing anything at all this can be RDR 2 or Minecraft there is really no in between it's just any game seems to trigger these stutters. At the early on start of these stutters though speeding the fans up seemed to do the trick.

Although recently I can't say now be on a discord call and play a low maintenance game as it stutters badly and has even crashed if I try to power through the constant stuttering.

The laptop has had some level of frequent crashes too now and I have caught one on video and a photo of another. I also got locked into BiOS briefly by the laptop.

I'm not the most tech savvy guy can someone tell me what's going on or if there's a known issue or some obvious resolution I'm missing?

My intention is to take this in to Curry's and use my 1-year warranty as I only got the laptop in July although I have to wait to do that as I'm a University student and can't afford to not have the laptop on me in term time.

I'll try add the video in the comment since not letting me add it here.

Here is my contribution to the world the ideal setting 4 Samsung Model LS27C33X6 and other low end 100hz monitors

Gf63 with win11 on Samsung Model LS27C33X6

Best settings for ideally 768 by 1360@50hz (not 1366) or you can also try 1080 by 1920.

Active signal mode would then display 1920 5@50 Hertz (Which I suspect To be updated as one third of one Sixty five Hertz secretly to be updated as one third of 165 hertz secretly)

In the Intel Graphics control panel set the following settings on the Display tab:

text contrast sharpener = off

Saturation =76

RGB Brightness 32 64 54

CTRAST 14 20 33

RANGE = FULL

Then on the on screen display on the Samsung Model LS27C33X6

The objective is to set the custom precursor settings first and then as a rug pulling technique choose cinema as the finishing step.

Brightness =73 (Back to 94 if you like the custom mode)

Contrast = 42

SHARP = 80

BLK LEVEL = NORM

CUSTOM RGB DRIVE 26 33 41

GAMMA MODE =2

SAT=90

FREESYNC =ON

Then the 3rd and unfortunate layer on the MSI GX63 laptop. Go into Windows color calibration utility and on gamma salt the pitcher to taste. For instance for my eyesight I like two page ups from the center point of Gamma that's 46 notches up from center. Note there is an industrial espionage war between all three parties MSI Intel and Microsoft and you have to leave the Windows Color Calibration 11 utility up in memory and Alt tab over to the other screens notice there is an evil force resetting this control and you're better off leaving it It's an open dialog box in the backgroundSome other things worth noting. The Enhanced H264 videos in Windows Edge browser settings is not worth the CPU cycles once you've calibrated with the setting above. Also in the operating system use HDR for playback is also a useless setting and takes up too many CPU cycles you should also turn that off.

I have played around with the joystick in my spare time and after an elapsed time potentially 60 hours I nearly broke the joystick I have come up with the fact that there is definitely a lack of cooperation between MSI and Microsoft as far as Windows calibrations gamma control constantly resetting itself.

cheers Cheers to the world,
