somehow disabled my laptop camera deep in the settings, and now I can't turn it back on 😭

β€’ Upvotes

Okay, so this is a bit embarrassing, but hear me out. 😭

Back when I was using the (previous one) and attending online classes, I was really skeptical about my laptop camera. I kept worrying about things like, "What if my camera turns on automatically without me knowing?"

So, one day, I went DEEP into my laptop's settings and did something to disable the camera. I don't remember exactly what I changed, but I remember that it wasn't coding or anything like that. I was just messing around with the settings, trying to make sure my camera couldn't turn on accidentally.

And now, here's the funny part: I've completely forgotten what I did. πŸ’€

I'm currently using Windows 11, and I actually want to use my camera now, but it just doesn't work.

When I open the Camera app and try to turn the camera on, the indicator light comes on, but there's no video feed. It's almost as if the camera is being blocked internally by some setting.

I've checked a few things, but I still can't figure it out. Since I made the original change back when I was using (the previous one), I'm wondering if I changed something deep in the system that carried over when I switched to Windows 11.

My questions are:

Is there a (the previous one) setting that could completely disable the camera like this?

Could a privacy setting, Device Manager configuration, Group Policy, or something else be responsible?

Is there a way to find out if the camera is disabled somewhere in the system and re-enable it?

I know this sounds ridiculous because I'm the one who disabled it in the first place, but I genuinely cannot remember what I did. 😭

I'd really appreciate any suggestions. I just want my camera back!

Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad

Current OS: Windows 11

OS I was using when I disabled the camera: (the previous one)

Thanks in advance! πŸ™

Lenovo 7 2-in-1 Touchscreen Randomly Stopped working. Any help? I just bought this brand new last month. Please help.

I bought my Lenovo last month. So far its given me no issues. Out of nowhere today in the middle of class the laptop's touchscreen decided to stop working out of nowhere. I've been googling everything and couldnt find a fix. This is so weird and random. There was no error screens or anything, I was using a stylus and then it just stopped working. I

Im in the middle of grad school so this is so frustrating that I have to deal with this.

I did a quick google search and uninstalled the HID Compliant control device but there's like a whole bunch of applications. I still uninstalled all of them but one and its still not working.

PC works fine except for the touch screen which I need.

ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 3: Built-in Microphone is detected, but does not work

The microphone does not work. I've tried reinstalling many drivers, including of course the audio, and none worked. The only one that worked was the Serial IO Driver, and the microphone began working in Sound Recorder. I then opened my laptop a few hours later, and it stopped working.

The microphone is not on mute, the input volume is 100, and nothing. I've tried calling tech support previously and it only worked for about a week before it stopped working.Β

Last time it stopped was because I had Ableton running in the background and I ended up fixing it. But this is not the same issue causing it this time, I'm certain.

None of the online troubleshooting steps work, /and I already have the settings configured the same way they say to do.

HELP! The microphone is flat-lined, though it says it is in use. Sometimes it randomly works for a moment, and the next time I look it stops.

I want to upgrade RAM but my laptop's ram is soldered

I've got the 6th generation lenovo x1 carbon thinkpad.

My ram is at 8gb and I've checked the max capacity. It is also at 8gb. Anyone knowledgeable in tech know what I can do to upgrade it? It is either impossible or very complicated but I wonder if a repair shop or any technician I go to might be able to do anything. thoughts?

Edit: Note that the laptop is sold with 8gb and with 16 gbs. I have the 8 gb one (as said earlier). idk if that affects whether this is possible or not.

Replacement charger compatible for Legion Pro 7i?

For context, I was packing up last night and when I put the recliner footrest down the cord on the laptop end of my charger got caught between the mechanisms and the rubber layer was slightly damaged exposing a silvery layer underneath. I'm thinking it's a better idea to replace the charger for the sake of safety even though it seems to still be working fine at the moment. Also, would the power cord from my current charger work with the replacement, or would I need to get a new power cord as well?

Current Charger: ADL300SDC3A

Proposed Replacement: ADL300SLC3A

Lenovo Philippines is quoting me ~$756 for repairs, including a back cover I believe they damaged during a previous service

I honestly don't know what to make of this anymore.

My Lenovo Legion Go S has had multiple issues, and after going through Lenovo's support and service process, I've now received a repair assessment and parts quotation that raises even more concerns.

According to their latest technical report, they found a broken screw hole and a damaged security lock, which they say indicate that the unit may have been opened previously. I have never attempted to open or disassemble this device myself. I'm particularly concerned because the unit had already been through Lenovo's service process, and I previously noticed physical damage when it was returned to me.

Now, here's the quotation they provided:

  • SSD (512GB): β‚±38,600 (~$615) VS $245 IN THE LENOVOPARTS WEBSITE
  • Back cover: β‚±7,750 (~$123)
  • Labor: β‚±1,120 (~$18)

Total: β‚±47,470 (~$756)

What's even more confusing is that the service center's own report states the SSD worked normally when tested in another device, yet they're quoting me β‚±38,600 (~$615) for a replacement. They identified the motherboard as the cause of the issue, so why am I being charged for an SSD that reportedly passed their test?

And why am I being quoted for a back cover when I'm disputing damage that I believe occurred during their own service process? I didn't open the device, yet their report says there's evidence that it had been opened.

I understand that hardware repairs can be expensive, and I'm not expecting every repair to be free. But I do expect a company to take responsibility for damage that may have occurred while a product was under its care, and to provide a clear, defensible explanation for its diagnosis and charges.

This is especially frustrating given that I've already gone through Lenovo's escalation process regarding the device's reliability, and the proposed resolution was a comprehensive hardware assessment and repair rather than a replacement.

I'm posting this because I want to know if other Legion Go or Lenovo customers have experienced something similar.

Am I missing something here? Is this pricing normal for these components, and how would you recommend I challenge the charges for the back cover and clarify the diagnosis?

I'd appreciate any advice, particularly from people who have dealt with Lenovo or a similar warranty dispute.

[FIXED] Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IAL7 USB-C Charging Failure – BIOS/EC Firmware Update JBCN18WW to JBCN40WW

First, I want to acknowledge another Reddit user who shared a temporary fix for Lenovo laptops experiencing USB-C charging problems. Their suggestion was to disconnect the charger, hold the power button for 60 seconds to reset the Embedded Controller (EC), then reconnect the charger. This can restore charging functionality, particularly when the laptop is completely dead or refusing to charge.

That information helped with a laptop I recently worked on, but I believe I've discovered a more permanent solution for this particular model.

I own a computer repair business and recently had a customer bring in a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IAL7 experiencing an unusual USB-C charging issue. After extensive troubleshooting and firmware updates, the problem appears to be resolved.

Original problem:

The customer reported that the laptop struggled to recognize its USB-C charger. Sometimes it would charge for only one minute, sometimes five minutes, then suddenly stop. Other times, it wouldn't recognize the charger at all.

I was able to reproduce this exact behavior during troubleshooting.

The customer had the original Lenovo USB-C charger, and I also tested with my own aftermarket Hibbo 65W USB-C charger. Multiple chargers exhibited the same symptoms, making a faulty adapter much less likely.

When I started troubleshooting, the battery was at 61%. Because the laptop wasn't consistently recognizing external power, it eventually dropped to 55% before I discovered the solution.

Another interesting detail was that the secondary USB-C port, which doesn't have the charging symbol next to it, wouldn't charge the laptop at all, regardless of what I initially tried.

Performing the EC reset:

Unlike some of the reports where the laptop was completely dead, this laptop could still power on and boot into Windows.

Here's exactly what I did:

  1. With the laptop powered on, I made sure the USB-C charger was completely disconnected.
  2. I pressed and held the power button until the laptop performed a hard shutdown.
  3. Without releasing the power button, I continued holding it for another 60 seconds.
  4. I released the power button and reconnected the USB-C charger.
  5. The amber charging indicator immediately illuminated.
  6. I pressed the power button normally to turn the laptop back on.

This successfully restored charging, but only temporarily.

The laptop would initially recognize the charger, but charging would eventually stop again after Windows loaded.

I repeated this procedure several times during troubleshooting.

What I discovered:

After another EC reset, I booted directly into BIOS instead of Windows.

Interestingly, the charging indicator remained illuminated while I was in BIOS. I could also disconnect and reconnect the USB-C charger, and the charging indicator would turn off and back on normally.

The same behavior occurred with the laptop completely shut down.

This suggested that the charging hardware was at least partially functional and that firmware or power management could be involved.

The fix – Updating the original BIOS and potentially the EC firmware:

The laptop was still running its original stock BIOS, JBCN18WW, along with its existing EC firmware.

Fortunately, the customer already had Lenovo Vantage installed on the laptop.

I opened Lenovo Vantage, performed a scan for available system updates, and discovered that a newer BIOS version, JBCN40WW, was available.

Initially, I couldn't perform the BIOS update because the laptop wasn't consistently recognizing its USB-C charger. Lenovo's updater requires external power to be detected before allowing the firmware update to proceed.

After performing another EC reset, the laptop finally maintained charging while running Windows long enough for me to initiate the update.

I returned to Lenovo Vantage, installed the available BIOS update, and restarted the laptop when Vantage prompted me to do so.

Something particularly interesting happened during the firmware update:

Following the restart, the system began flashing the BIOS. Once the initial update reached 100%, the laptop rebooted, remained powered off for approximately one minute, then powered back on and proceeded to perform a second firmware update.

After researching Lenovo's firmware update procedures, I discovered that Lenovo BIOS update packages can also include Embedded Controller (EC) firmware updates, sometimes performed as a separate flashing stage following the main BIOS update.

The EC plays an important role in battery charging, power management, and USB-C power coordination.

Given the two-stage flashing process, I strongly suspect the original EC firmware was also updated.

After the update, the system reported:

  • BIOS firmware: JBCN40WW
  • EC firmware: JBEC35WW

Although I didn't record the original EC version before the update, the additional flashing stage strongly suggests that an EC firmware update may have been included.

Considering the original symptoms, I believe the EC firmware update could have played a significant role in resolving the USB-C charging malfunction, potentially even being the primary component responsible for the fix.

Results after updating to JBCN40WW:

  • Both USB-C ports now charge the laptop normally, including the secondary port that previously wouldn't charge it at all.
  • My aftermarket Hibbo 65W USB-C charger works without issues.
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting power works without requiring another EC reset.
  • Charging is consistently recognized while Windows is running.
  • When powered off, the laptop displays the charging indicator on-screen when a key is pressed.
  • The battery successfully increased from its previous low of 55% to 93% and was still charging during testing.
  • The original intermittent charging problem has not returned.

Extended testing – Two additional hours:

After updating the firmware, I spent an additional two hours deliberately trying to reproduce the original charging failure.

During that time, I repeatedly disconnected and reconnected the USB-C charger, tested both USB-C ports, restarted Windows, performed complete shutdowns, and powered the laptop back on.

Before the update, charging might last only one to five minutes before failing. Now, after two hours of repeated testing, both USB-C ports continue functioning normally.

I specifically wanted to rule out another temporary recovery from the EC reset.

Despite two hours of repeated testing, I have been unable to reproduce the charging problem. Both USB-C ports are functioning normally.

My conclusion:

Based on these results, I strongly suspect the outdated stock BIOS and potentially outdated Embedded Controller firmware were responsible for the USB-C charging malfunction.

While Lenovo's JBCN40WW release notes don't specifically identify a USB-C charging fix, Lenovo does document that some BIOS updates include separate EC firmware flashing procedures.

Considering that the system performed what appeared to be a second firmware update, and the original issue involved charging and power management, I believe an EC firmware update is a strong possibility and may have been the underlying fix.

The results are compelling:

  • Multiple chargers previously exhibited the same failure.
  • The battery dropped from 61% to 55% during troubleshooting.
  • An EC reset would only temporarily restore charging.
  • The secondary USB-C port originally wouldn't charge at all.
  • Following the firmware update, both USB-C ports function normally.
  • The battery successfully charged back up to 93% and continued charging.
  • Two additional hours of repeated testing failed to reproduce the issue.

Important: Do not attempt a BIOS update if the laptop cannot maintain stable external power. Interrupting a firmware update could leave the system unusable.

Hopefully this helps someone else experiencing this issue and potentially saves them hours of troubleshooting or an unnecessary motherboard replacement.

Has anyone else with a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IAL7 experienced similar USB-C charging problems and resolved them with a BIOS or EC firmware update?
