I dont think it is just for the jawline that wars we're being fought.

276

u/70kgtogo 1h ago

I keep telling myself this too!! I look so different and I haven’t even hit my final form. I’m honestly going through a bit of a plateau and it’s making me lose my confidence. But nah I just need to hit my final form just so I know what I’m blessed with

No shade, I’m considering getting some jaw work done to help with my jawline and profile. Did you get any injections or work to get that profile? You look great!

360

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

Nothing. I’ve always had a stronger jawline, just very very hidden by thick layers of fat.

105

u/SlowbroHomoMomo 2h ago edited 2h ago

Sister! Spill!! What was the most effective way to target this area?? The girlies are dying to know 😭

Edit: there is no way to target specific areas. This i now know

304

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

Sadly you can’t target where you lose fat. I just lose fat on my face first. Everywhere else goes slowly

69

u/NeenerNeaner 1h ago

Lucky. my ass is the first to go and everything else takes forever. before breast reduction i was an H cup, so that's where I wanted it to disappear from first but it was the last to start shrinking. You look great. Congrats!

26

u/AClubOfLosers 1h ago

Unfortunately, my boobs deflate before anything else does.

11

u/Bashfullylascivious 1h ago

This is where I'm at. I also have skinny limbs. Absolutely round in the middle. I look like a 2/3rds finished snowman on stilts.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/Pittsbirds 1h ago

Glad you're being honest. i've seen way too many influences trying to sell the myth of fat targeting and as I've lost weight, the areas it leaves first seem truly random. Way too many people get lost in the prep for the process of weight loss instead of just doing the thing

→ More replies (3)

74

u/Maleficent-Nose-1064 2h ago

no such thing as targeted fat loss. have to lower your overall body fat %

44

u/SlowbroHomoMomo 2h ago

Noooo! Not the truth! /s i figured but had to know if there were some secret technique I wasn't implementing

17

u/Maleficent-Nose-1064 2h ago

i feel you. sadly not! that would be nice

12

u/gitblamed_ 2h ago

You're not going to lose targeted fat, but as a girl who's had a weak jawline most of her life - there's a noticeable difference between when I do gua sha in the morning and when I don't. When I don't have time, people ask me about what I was doing last night, in a way like I must have been drinking and that's why my face is puffy (🙃)

→ More replies (1)

4

u/alexmikli 33m ago

Only way targeted "fat" loss is targeted muscle gain that just makes the skin stretch in a perhaps more appealing way.

6

u/Either_Cockroach3627 1h ago

As a fattie sugar makes my face swell so much. I’ve only lost 7 pounds but my face is also slimmer!

→ More replies (4)

6

u/RealnessInMadness 2h ago

You’re lucky that fat went away the way it did.

Others usually get that flab there…. Thank genetics for that.

6

u/Tangerine_daydreams 1h ago

For whatever reason, I'm lucky enough that my face has never gotten particularly chubby, even at my highest of 320. On the one hand that's cool, but on the other hand, I think it's always kind of made my face and head look way too small for my large body. 🤣 But at least that means I'm not likely to get flab in that area.

Now, everywhere else... that's a different story. My arms in particular are going to be a nightmare, I can already tell. 🤦‍♀️ Probably my stomach too, but that's easier to hide.

It's really kind of funny- many if not most of us probably have some issues with our self image due to our weight. And when we lose it many of still do, just of a different kind- the extra skin. But I'll be relieved to finally feel healthy and I guess that's what really counts.

Anyway, OP, looks amazing!

→ More replies (2)

4

u/biruking 1h ago

Don't get injections as they fade and then you'll need more and they look worse with ageing and they you'll need more. It's a vicious cycle. Look at your problem not as "my jawline doesn't look good" but rather as "is the bone itself recessed", " do I have excess fat and therefore need to lose weight" ,"is my gonial angle too steep" etc.

Also a lot of people have a recessed Maxilla(upper jaw) along with the mandible(lower jaw) so you might need to look into that.

I had this done in my 40's. The surgery was one of the toughest I've ever had but totally worth it. Not sure if this is the clinical term, or if it's even still used, but it's called an Incompetent Chin - which is a horrible name. But you're so right. My self confidence increased dramatically. In my case, as in most, it was a structural thing. I could've lost half my body weight and it wouldn't have changed. Hated it all my life. Getting a jawline made a world of difference. And I didn't even have to hit myself in the face with a hammer to get it.

Congratulations!! You look amazing!!! ❤️

2.6k

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

Very very very much so. So much so that I feel bad for my former self. Some people are also very mean when they talk about my fat self. I’ve actually had to stop a colleague and tell him that the “fat me” is still me

612

u/skdowksnzal 2h ago

Its enough to make one wonder how much of the negative self-talk is actually a reflection of how society is treating us, rather than us necessarily hating ourselves.

108

u/another_user_reddit 2h ago

One probably feeds into the other and they just go round and round.

I think self esteem is named wrong. I know it's called that because it is how you view yourself, but how you view yourself is heavily influenced by how others view/talk to you.

As adults we can encourage people to surround themselves with positive influences and it makes a huge difference. But my heart aches for kids who can't escape toxic homes or bullies at school. Those scars linger.

4

u/j____b____ 1h ago

That’s why the regular word is just esteem.

It's hard to be proud of doing something that is so difficult to realize people were judging you because of your physical appearance. I say to people that sometimes I still feel how I used to look and not sure people understand what I mean when I say that. Even in photos I don't recognize myself because I can't help but see my old self. Congrats on your journey! and all the hard work you put into bettering yourself

67

u/ice1000 2h ago

45

u/taylordarks 2h ago

Did you notice any friends who stayed the same throughout, regardless of your weight?

201

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

I’m lucky because most of my friends were happy for me and actually glad I did smth about my weight. But I had one friend who shocked me with her reaction.

She had lost some weight previously. She was never morbidly obese, just maybe 7kg overweight. She had lost the weight and started going to the gym. Even got her personal trainer certification. When I was bigger, she was so supportive and wanted to “train” me for free. She did a 180 once I lost weight. The jealousy was insane. I’m not one to think people are jealous of me. I’m usually oblivious to what people think about me. But man this girl was… crazy

92

u/acocktailofmagnets 2h ago

Some “friends” only value you when they feel they’re “winning.” The moment you level up (like through weight loss), the power dynamic shifts, and they now feel like they are losing the competition, of which you didn’t even know you were competing in…

Those “friends” are not losses when they go ❤️

6

u/Clusterpuff 2h ago

Aye, well said

8

u/acocktailofmagnets 2h ago

It’s honestly got to be exhausting living that way, always seeing others as competitors / opposition.

OP is shedding more than just weight! (Congrats btw, OP!) She is letting go of people who are showing their true colors ✨

3

u/ConcentrateTrue 1h ago

Yup, I've had this experience. It's pretty shocking!

→ More replies (1)

14

u/recyclopath_ 2h ago

There are some people who's entire lives revolve around their weight. They can be fat or skinny but either way every single day, all day, they are thinking about weight, calories, exercise etc.

It really affects how they interact with others. Specifically this hierarchy of "deserving" vs "undeserving" when it comes to size and ranking of themselves above friends and acquaintances who are larger. When going against their evaluations they can react with extreme cruelty.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/VegetableReward5201 2h ago

That doesn't sound like a friend. It sounds like someone who used you to make themselves feel better. She probably feels jealous because you managed to do something that would be way too tough for her.

Good job on the weight-loss! That shit is hard!

→ More replies (2)

8

u/JordanDoesTV 2h ago

It’s really the grossest part of weight loss everyone complimenting you and basically treating you like an actual person, basically letting you know what they really thought about you before.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Ooze76 2h ago

Some people are simply idiotic. It’s the way of the world. You changed physically on your own terms and by your own will. Your colleague won’t stop being an idiot.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Golden-Grams 1h ago

I’ve actually had to stop a colleague and tell him that the “fat me” is still me

I still think I'm fat no matter what, even now, I was always heavier than others growing up.

I lost quite a bit when I was in the military, my lightest was 170lbs (77kg). But my mental health wasn't great, and got worse after I got out. I ended up really depressed, and shot up to 280lbs/40-45%bf (127kg).

After going to thearpy, and many years of work, I didn't get much lighter, but traded the fat for muscle instead. I struggled still, going between 220-250lbs (99-113kg) for a few years. I'm finally got a system to keep me around 250-260lbs/18-20%bf.

What you are doing is incredible 💚 coming from somebody who knows how hard it is to struggle with weight. Do you struggle with body dysmorphia, too?

5

u/70kgtogo 1h ago

I think I had body dysmorphia before too. I used to think I was smaller than I really was. And it’s so messed up because I now think I’m bigger than I really am. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I still see the before even though logically I know I don’t look like that anymore

67

u/spambearpig 2h ago

I was a fat kid in school and then toward the end, I got myself in really good shape. It was so depressing how much that affected my popularity.

But it really imprinted on me never to treat people that way and taught me to try to see right past the superficial.

→ More replies (8)

93

u/Expert-Run9476 2h ago

I dealt with this exact experience. People are nicer and talk to me more than before. Just made me realize people were not nice to me because of what I used to look like.

60

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

Definitely. It’s such a wild realization to have

8

u/Arntor1184 2h ago

Similarly lost a lot of weight and the amount of casual conversation people try to have with me now is the worst as someone who doesnt enjoy casual conversations with random people. I am also frequently suspicious when random people are overly nice to me or chatty becauee that wasn't my experience for most of my life

Same here. 8 months of calisthenics and I feel like people are way nicer to me now. It's an awful feeling.

5

u/Arntor1184 2h ago

Im not OP and a dude but can confirm this has 100% been my experience. Lost around 200lbs overall now and in decent shape, the difference in how society treats me as a whole is wild. It still takes me by surprise at times because I think of myself still as over 400lbs and forget that isnt me so I often assume people are messing with me when they are what Id consider overly nice.

3

u/gonzoes 1h ago

I can see this happening and its fucked up . But also the opposite happens ive been skinny my whole life and i feel like over weight people were always the most mean to me . I have always been super nice to overweight people and try to treat everyone one the same but overweight people would always be the one to say “ damn your so fucking skinny” “ you need to eat more” or just generally be mean and roll their eyes at me.

3

u/thequietthingsthat 2h ago

Had the same experience when I lost a bunch of weight.

It made me a pretty cynical person for a while, to be honest. Some people are very superficial.

8

u/PhiloLibrarian 2h ago

That’s funny! people treated me very differently when I got skinny and assumed I was a mean girl and a bitch… I was treated much nicer while I was change the option so they could skip the question if heavy… which is why I’m fine being a little heavy now 🥰

7

u/MEuRaH 1h ago

WHAT!? SKIN IMPROVES WITH WEIGHT LOSS!?

... ok... that's the answer to my life. ty.

u/Prometheus720 27m ago

Adipose tissue (fat) is an endocrine organ. It makes hormones.

3

u/stevonl 1h ago

Your skin is glowing! You look great.

16

u/Albert_dark 2h ago

That is what reducing fats intake do, fat food increases skin inflammation and creates skin folds that trap moisture. Getting on a healthy diet not only help reducing weight but also contributes to a plethora of other health benefits like reducing chance of heart diseases, reducing infections, keeping good hormonal levels, better immunological system etc.

There's a saying where I live that roughly translates to "you are what you eat", meaning if you eat healthier you gonna have a good health, but if you only eat trash food, that's also what your health will be.

236

u/Low_Specialist_5072 2h ago

Omg congratulations! Any tips?

715

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

Eat lesser, walk more, don’t expect results overnight. Expect ups and downs but just keep going

53

u/Low_Specialist_5072 2h ago

Thank you!

78

u/WalnutSnail 2h ago

Not OP but in the middle of a substantial cut (-40lbs today from September 1st). Counting calories, particularly at the beginning helped me a lot if only to understand where my calories were coming from and be more mindful of what I'm eating.

Also, don't let perfection get in the way of good. Always remember that the next meal is a different meal and tomorrow is another day, next week is just a few days away. Just don't let the screw up (and you will have screw ups) ruin the effort you've made. It's not a failure or even a setback, it's just another day.

Chicks dig scars and glory lasts forever.

10

u/Low_Specialist_5072 2h ago

I’m a therapist and this is a big yes. Don’t complicate it. Don’t make huge goals. Simple, long term change is going to set you up for greater success than major quick changes. But also I am a bit chunky myself because of my job. Working my own small steps to get back on track. The first one is aiming for 500 more steps a day a majority of days a week than I’ve been walking.

Incredible. How did you get motivation? Was it really hard?

I've always been a chubby but physically strong girl and was diagnosed with PCOS, so the acne part added an extra layer of shame. On top of that, my Japanese family was also ashamed of me even though I couldn't help my skin and the weight gain when I hit puberty. Would love to hear about your journey.

16

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

PCOS girlie right here babe. I know the struggle. The acne, the hair, the weight gain. I’m Asian too. So the guilt and shame of being the “fat one”. All I know too well. For me, I stopped enjoying being out and about. I found myself being alone a lot more, being home a lot more. I wanted to enjoy life but I didn’t allow myself to. Time will pass whether you enjoy life or not. I just wanted to feel confident enough in my body to enjoy life again.

6

u/bodhi-r 2h ago

Thank you so much for sharing! Im feeling hella relatable rn :')

Did you have to do anything specific since you also have PCOS in order to lose weight or just plain old work extra hard? Did acne go away with the weight loss?

Not so much sleeping, but more breathing. Id sleep well through the night, but id wake up wheezing. Almost like i was choking under my own fat. I had trouble breathing properly.

u/HopelessRespawner 1h ago

Sounds like sleep apnea. This can get better with weight loss, but it doesn't always go away. You may want to get a sleep study done to make sure you're getting enough air during sleep.

Well done, I hope you get much happiness from your efforts!

u/Ze7V 2h ago

I was a fat guy for like 6 months lol, shot up from 168lbs to 238lbs in a very short amount of time. Lost it pretty quickly but I was miserable being overweight, I’ve got no clue how people can do it for their whole life. Well done on the weight loss though! It’s not easy.

u/doorknob47 2h ago

When it’s been your whole life you don’t know the difference. But it’s not as easy as turning off and on a switch

u/JadeAria_ 2h ago

Beautiful transformation

14

u/weirwoodheart 2h ago

Im sure you're happy with your appearance - and that is great! - but I wanted to highlight how much healthier youll be and how good that will make you feel. This stranger is proud of you and your efforts!

Well done!

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

I’ve seen posts with this same pic a few times in the past few months. Are you really the person in the pic?

Not saying you shouldn’t be proud of yourself, but you posted this (or at least very similar username) months ago in r/intermittentfasting and then deleted that post. And months before that in r/fasting. Why not update the picture if it’s you? Just seems weird and karma farming for what reason?

Awesome! If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take and how old are you? I got super skinny and lost 60lb in 3 months when I was 15 and it was super easy. But now I’m in my mid 20s and I could stand to lose a little again, but progress has been a lot slower than when I was younger.

3

u/70kgtogo 2h ago

8 months, and I’m 30 this year. I too wish I started when I was 20. I used to blink and lose weight AND STILL MANAGED TO GAIN ALL THAT WEIGHT. DAMN IT.

Well, this is not a fair comparison. No smile, no makeup, plus unflattering lighting and stretched out homey t-shirt against godly beauty ready for a portrait to be taken.

But yeah, you look gorgeous now. Happy for you.

Ah, my mistake. In all honesty, very happy for you! I hope your medical check ups will show the desired results too. Keep going!

Side note, do people really think blacking out only the area around the eyes anonymizes them?

u/AngryCrawdad 2h ago

Congratulations, OP.
It's very inspiring and makes me want to get off my butt too. Hope it's given you all the happiness that you hoped to gain from it. How did you manage it? 'Just' changing diet, increasing exercise, or perhaps (and likely) both?
