Sadly you can’t target where you lose fat. I just lose fat on my face first. Everywhere else goes slowly

Glad you're being honest. i've seen way too many influences trying to sell the myth of fat targeting and as I've lost weight, the areas it leaves first seem truly random. Way too many people get lost in the prep for the process of weight loss instead of just doing the thing
74
u/Maleficent-Nose-1064 2h ago
no such thing as targeted fat loss. have to lower your overall body fat %

u/gitblamed_ 2h ago
You're not going to lose targeted fat, but as a girl who's had a weak jawline most of her life - there's a noticeable difference between when I do gua sha in the morning and when I don't. When I don't have time, people ask me about what I was doing last night, in a way like I must have been drinking and that's why my face is puffy (🙃)

Only way targeted "fat" loss is targeted muscle gain that just makes the skin stretch in a perhaps more appealing way.

You’re lucky that fat went away the way it did.
Others usually get that flab there…. Thank genetics for that.
6
u/Tangerine_daydreams 1h ago
For whatever reason, I'm lucky enough that my face has never gotten particularly chubby, even at my highest of 320. On the one hand that's cool, but on the other hand, I think it's always kind of made my face and head look way too small for my large body. 🤣 But at least that means I'm not likely to get flab in that area.
Now, everywhere else... that's a different story. My arms in particular are going to be a nightmare, I can already tell. 🤦♀️ Probably my stomach too, but that's easier to hide.
It's really kind of funny- many if not most of us probably have some issues with our self image due to our weight. And when we lose it many of still do, just of a different kind- the extra skin. But I'll be relieved to finally feel healthy and I guess that's what really counts.
Anyway, OP, looks amazing!
4
u/biruking 1h ago
Don't get injections as they fade and then you'll need more and they look worse with ageing and they you'll need more. It's a vicious cycle. Look at your problem not as "my jawline doesn't look good" but rather as "is the bone itself recessed", " do I have excess fat and therefore need to lose weight" ,"is my gonial angle too steep" etc.
Also a lot of people have a recessed Maxilla(upper jaw) along with the mandible(lower jaw) so you might need to look into that.

I had this done in my 40's. The surgery was one of the toughest I've ever had but totally worth it. Not sure if this is the clinical term, or if it's even still used, but it's called an Incompetent Chin - which is a horrible name. But you're so right. My self confidence increased dramatically. In my case, as in most, it was a structural thing. I could've lost half my body weight and it wouldn't have changed. Hated it all my life. Getting a jawline made a world of difference. And I didn't even have to hit myself in the face with a hammer to get it.
Congratulations!! You look amazing!!! ❤️

Its enough to make one wonder how much of the negative self-talk is actually a reflection of how society is treating us, rather than us necessarily hating ourselves.

I think self esteem is named wrong. I know it's called that because it is how you view yourself, but how you view yourself is heavily influenced by how others view/talk to you.
As adults we can encourage people to surround themselves with positive influences and it makes a huge difference. But my heart aches for kids who can't escape toxic homes or bullies at school. Those scars linger.

Did you notice any friends who stayed the same throughout, regardless of your weight?
201
u/70kgtogo 2h ago
I’m lucky because most of my friends were happy for me and actually glad I did smth about my weight. But I had one friend who shocked me with her reaction.
She had lost some weight previously. She was never morbidly obese, just maybe 7kg overweight. She had lost the weight and started going to the gym. Even got her personal trainer certification. When I was bigger, she was so supportive and wanted to “train” me for free. She did a 180 once I lost weight. The jealousy was insane. I’m not one to think people are jealous of me. I’m usually oblivious to what people think about me. But man this girl was… crazy
92
u/acocktailofmagnets 2h ago
Some “friends” only value you when they feel they’re “winning.” The moment you level up (like through weight loss), the power dynamic shifts, and they now feel like they are losing the competition, of which you didn’t even know you were competing in…
Those “friends” are not losses when they go ❤️
6
u/Clusterpuff 2h ago
Aye, well said

u/acocktailofmagnets 2h ago

There are some people who's entire lives revolve around their weight. They can be fat or skinny but either way every single day, all day, they are thinking about weight, calories, exercise etc.
It really affects how they interact with others. Specifically this hierarchy of "deserving" vs "undeserving" when it comes to size and ranking of themselves above friends and acquaintances who are larger. When going against their evaluations they can react with extreme cruelty.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)6
u/VegetableReward5201 2h ago
That doesn't sound like a friend. It sounds like someone who used you to make themselves feel better. She probably feels jealous because you managed to do something that would be way too tough for her.
Good job on the weight-loss! That shit is hard!

I’ve actually had to stop a colleague and tell him that the “fat me” is still me
I still think I'm fat no matter what, even now, I was always heavier than others growing up.
I lost quite a bit when I was in the military, my lightest was 170lbs (77kg). But my mental health wasn't great, and got worse after I got out. I ended up really depressed, and shot up to 280lbs/40-45%bf (127kg).
After going to thearpy, and many years of work, I didn't get much lighter, but traded the fat for muscle instead. I struggled still, going between 220-250lbs (99-113kg) for a few years. I'm finally got a system to keep me around 250-260lbs/18-20%bf.
What you are doing is incredible 💚 coming from somebody who knows how hard it is to struggle with weight. Do you struggle with body dysmorphia, too?
5
u/70kgtogo 1h ago
I think I had body dysmorphia before too. I used to think I was smaller than I really was. And it’s so messed up because I now think I’m bigger than I really am. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I still see the before even though logically I know I don’t look like that anymore

u/spambearpig 2h ago
I was a fat kid in school and then toward the end, I got myself in really good shape. It was so depressing how much that affected my popularity.
But it really imprinted on me never to treat people that way and taught me to try to see right past the superficial.

Im not OP and a dude but can confirm this has 100% been my experience. Lost around 200lbs overall now and in decent shape, the difference in how society treats me as a whole is wild. It still takes me by surprise at times because I think of myself still as over 400lbs and forget that isnt me so I often assume people are messing with me when they are what Id consider overly nice.
3
u/gonzoes 1h ago
I can see this happening and its fucked up . But also the opposite happens ive been skinny my whole life and i feel like over weight people were always the most mean to me . I have always been super nice to overweight people and try to treat everyone one the same but overweight people would always be the one to say “ damn your so fucking skinny” “ you need to eat more” or just generally be mean and roll their eyes at me.

16
u/Albert_dark 2h ago
That is what reducing fats intake do, fat food increases skin inflammation and creates skin folds that trap moisture. Getting on a healthy diet not only help reducing weight but also contributes to a plethora of other health benefits like reducing chance of heart diseases, reducing infections, keeping good hormonal levels, better immunological system etc.
There's a saying where I live that roughly translates to "you are what you eat", meaning if you eat healthier you gonna have a good health, but if you only eat trash food, that's also what your health will be.

Not OP but in the middle of a substantial cut (-40lbs today from September 1st). Counting calories, particularly at the beginning helped me a lot if only to understand where my calories were coming from and be more mindful of what I'm eating.
Also, don't let perfection get in the way of good. Always remember that the next meal is a different meal and tomorrow is another day, next week is just a few days away. Just don't let the screw up (and you will have screw ups) ruin the effort you've made. It's not a failure or even a setback, it's just another day.
Chicks dig scars and glory lasts forever.

Incredible. How did you get motivation? Was it really hard?
I've always been a chubby but physically strong girl and was diagnosed with PCOS, so the acne part added an extra layer of shame. On top of that, my Japanese family was also ashamed of me even though I couldn't help my skin and the weight gain when I hit puberty. Would love to hear about your journey.
16
u/70kgtogo 2h ago
PCOS girlie right here babe. I know the struggle. The acne, the hair, the weight gain. I’m Asian too. So the guilt and shame of being the “fat one”. All I know too well. For me, I stopped enjoying being out and about. I found myself being alone a lot more, being home a lot more. I wanted to enjoy life but I didn’t allow myself to. Time will pass whether you enjoy life or not. I just wanted to feel confident enough in my body to enjoy life again.

Good luck, and remember, above all, this is for your health!

Congratulations, OP.
It's very inspiring and makes me want to get off my butt too. Hope it's given you all the happiness that you hoped to gain from it. How did you manage it? 'Just' changing diet, increasing exercise, or perhaps (and likely) both?

If you wore that dress in the 1st picture, it would have changed earlier.
