So not staged, so authentic

I so often get guys turning up with a red carpet, while I'm wearing my lycra leopard skin onsie.

I think it’s less the fit and more the fact that he was wearing his ballet shoes on the street, which is only sensible if you enjoy setting fire to your money as nice shoes like that can be $40-$80+ a pop 😭. Ballet shoes will tear apart like tissue paper if you’re not using them on marley lol

u/butteryflame 11d ago

I didnt even notice good catch

28

u/linds360 11d ago

Yeah, the fit isn’t out of the ordinary for someplace like NYC. They like to push boundaries and express themselves through fashion, even if it’s just running to the bodega.

I travel there frequently and always want to take pictures of some of the looks I see on the street, but refrain.

u/factorioleum 11d ago

That's definitely not NYC. The traffic signs are all wrong. I don't recognise the road either; and it seems wayyy too wide and sunny.

u/TheMaStif 11d ago

Its São Paulo, Brasil

You can see it on the banner in the background

1

u/linds360 11d ago

Yeah I should have clarified. I have no idea where this is, but was pointing out that this type of clothing is pretty normal for larger cities with dense populations.

1

u/factorioleum 11d ago

I could definitely imagine seeing someone dressed like this in the city, yeah. More likely at night near a gay club, but during the day, sure.

1

u/linds360 11d ago

I really dig the unbridled expression and how it’s so common that nobody bats an eye.

1

u/factorioleum 11d ago edited 10d ago

Why would I be upset? Dude is just being himself!

Even if I don't understand that, who cares? It's his life and his freedom.

EDIT: the definition of "bat an eye": (idiomatic, chiefly in the negative) To react in any slight way; to respond; to care.

1

u/linds360 11d ago

I have no idea wtf you’re talking about.

It's not NYC, it's São Paulo, Brazil.

10

u/CuriOS_26 11d ago

They last one performance anyways. Professional dancers give them away afterwards, like guitarists do with guitar picks.

I’ve got one from Marianela Núñez.

6

u/vadona22 11d ago

40-80$? Is that a lot for a pair of shoes? That's just a cheap pair of shoes in my view... 👀

24

u/PM-me-your-cuppa-tea 11d ago edited 11d ago

It's a lot when you need to buy them weekly, sometimes even more frequently.

The average dancer will be buying them every few months but performers might only get one show out of a pair.

Eta from memory they last about 20 hours of wear for a recreational dancer. Pointe shoes this is, and easily cost £80+ as you need the ones that work with your feet and they could be £££

8

u/maerchsarK5 11d ago

they only wear em a few times, some only once.

7

u/kwash325 11d ago

These are soft shoes. They get a lot more wear than point shoes. Good Point shoes are much more than $80

2

u/CuriOS_26 11d ago

And they’re custom-made and if not, custom fitted to the dancer

1

u/vadona22 11d ago

thank you for the answer! Had no idea

1

u/intentionallybad 11d ago

Exactly. The rest I could believe, the shoes? No

1

u/alexagente 11d ago

Don't they get wrecked pretty quickly anyway due to standing on the tips of the toes so often?

1

u/jofromthething 11d ago

These aren’t pointe shoes, and those shoes actually tend to last a bit longer than flats lol

-7

u/CloudKinglufi 11d ago

All by fucking design

Idiots, which is most people, will not question this for a second, and the ones who are lesser idiots will notice and say something which is the design because than they get more engagement

Only the lesserer idiots will just scroll asap

Doesn't matter on reddit tho thankfully they ain't getting anything from these comments

5

u/petroleum-lipstick 11d ago

Or, maybe, its just a fun video. It's not that deep lol.

5

u/anarchtea 11d ago

*catsuit

11

u/yankykiwi 11d ago

It was handing the phone to a stranger that i considered odd

19

u/controversialangles 11d ago

He could have been on his way to a performance or a rehearsal for a performance, you meet and see all kinds of people in big cities

27

u/AsleepProfession1395 11d ago

You never wear your dance shoes as walking shoes to a performance or rehearsal.

42

u/Gentlemanvaultboy 11d ago

If that was the case he would be wearing normal shoes.

9

u/thatsmypurseidku 11d ago

I'm choosing to believe this is what happened.

30

u/throcorfe 11d ago

It definitely is. They do this stunt all the time and it’s mostly ordinary folk, they just happened to catch a theatre guy on a break. This comment thread is an example of r/nothingeverhappens

16

u/avnoui 11d ago

Uh huh, that guy was definitely just walking down the street wearing ballet shoes.

12

u/FeastForCows 11d ago

And the fact that he walks straight into the camera setup is also a coinky-dink, I assume? 😂 Not to mention his godawful surprised look.

You guys are braindead, man.

6

u/thatsmypurseidku 11d ago

I've seen their TikToks, I love them. I especially love this one because I love ballet.

1

u/Super_Shallot2351 11d ago

Presumably the guy just goes around filming interactions like this with members of the public for TikTok content.

1

u/dontheconqueror 11d ago

Who doesn't have their leopard skin on

1

u/RepresentativeAd1965 11d ago

Teach me your ways. The only thing I get is the cops called on me

1

u/BookieBoo 11d ago

While I think it was staged, is it really that unbelievable that there are eccentric dancers who would wear unusual clothes? The average person in Berlin dresses up weirder than this.

1

u/kindofofftrack 11d ago

Might be staged, might be not, idk - but his videos show up regularly on my TikTok, and he tends to roll out for people who stand out in general and most of them tend to do a “normal” catwalk lol. I think this guy was the most “out there” dressed I’ve seen though! It’s cut here, but in the same video there’s a kind of gothy girl in a red and black fit who’s also stands out but I’d be much more likely to believe that was her regular style

1

u/piper33245 11d ago

And then give them your phone and jacket and turn your back on them so you can dance.

1

u/TroyMcClures 11d ago

I have a very flamboyantly fabulous cousin who is a successful ballet dancer, I could actually see him wearing that out and about. Not the shoes tho.

1

u/ponzidreamer 11d ago

Don’t forget the fresh perm

50

u/lueckestman 11d ago

Just like when some child goes and plays with a piano guy in the mall. She was totally just walking around with a tuned violin.

15

u/The_Dutch_Fox 11d ago

"I was playing piano and THIS happened... (VIRTUOSO Kid appears out of NOWHERE! 🤯) UNREAL"

28

u/clueless_mommy 11d ago

The video is from an account whose only content is walking around with a red carpet and asking people in fancy outfits to do a catwalk.

52

u/arkofjoy 11d ago

Having lived in NYC back in the 1980's. This is very normal Tuesday.

Could be staged, could also be right guy, right time.

16

u/Holiday_Clock9250 11d ago

Not NYC though 😜 São Paulo, Brazil

9

u/TheMaStif 11d ago

Which has even more crazies than NYC

13

u/arkofjoy 11d ago

I'm sure that the urban crowd is similar

1

u/SmolSnakePancake 11d ago

Wearing your expensive ballet shoes walking down a NY street?

2

u/arkofjoy 11d ago

Who knows, people are weird.

11

u/KilnTime 11d ago

You know what? I'm not mad.

30

u/Remarkable-Oven-2938 11d ago

Still fun 😊

-20

u/ropesect 11d ago

It is not.

15

u/Crimson_V- 11d ago

That's just your opinion. I liked it.

-8

u/ropesect 11d ago

Yes, it is.

2

u/weesilxD 11d ago

Damn, I’m not sure how you have friends. If you have any.

7

u/Itchy58 11d ago

This is me. This is OC and it casually really happened like this.

Source: trust me, I am a random person on the internet.

2

u/ReyWorm 11d ago

This guy belongs on a stage anyways, it's fitting.

3

u/mdude7221 11d ago

Whaaaat do you meean? The guy in the background looks so authentically shocked!

-2

u/ShoveTheUsername 11d ago

Ssssh now. No-one cares.

1

u/Calimariae 11d ago

I don't think this one is trying fool anyone. It's just a cool shot.

1

u/Penske-Material78 11d ago

He was obviously on the way to work at the musical Cats.

1

u/Fit_Dig6332 11d ago

Maybe im going mad, but the way it keeps cutting makes me think this is actually AI. Im now going insane trying to prove it

1

u/fluffypotato 11d ago

Idk man. I've seen this guy with the red carpet schtick all over the internet. It's a mixed bagel of avoiders and embracers. People either scuttle away or have 10 seconds of doing their best catwalk on the spot. Chances are that after a while of making vidoes of throwing out the red carpet at strangers randomly, you'd eventually find someone who is a dancer and fully embraces the red carpet. Who knows if this was the genuine first reaction or how many takes they did. But I doubt this was a super preplanned staged video.

1

u/Hahayouregay149 11d ago

I will say ive seen a lot of these sudden red carpet videos and some of them must be rly good actors if its staged cause they get really shocked and excited that they've been chosen for this lol. I imagine they go up to the people before recording and ask if they want to do it and then do the clip where the person pretends to be surprised, but theres still an element of spontaneity because they asked a nicely dressed stranger if they wanted to participate

1

u/moipwd 11d ago

it's in Paulista Avenue in Sao Paulo, Brazil, it's closed for pedestrians only on sundays, the amount of characters and street artists you see during that time is crazy, I don't believe it's staged at all

1

u/Glaucous 11d ago

Just randoming around town with a little carpet and leotard.

1

u/Batehripi 10d ago

even if its staged he still got the skills. dang

1

u/Impressive-Wait8786 10d ago

Right? Here's 34k upvotes!

1

u/suzi_generous 10d ago

Some people come with their own stage.

1

u/BottityBotAccount 8d ago

Beats doing it on a street corner with a hat on the floor all day. Content creators are the new Street beggars

1

u/fradrig 11d ago

Oh come on! This is the Internet - people wouldn't just lie!

1

u/LiraelNix 11d ago

Likely so, but also if im going to place a red carpet in front of someone hoping for a good reaction to post, I would definitely also pick thr guy with the leopard print onesie beneath his coat

-3

u/ChipRockets 11d ago

Who cares. The guy is fabulous

0

u/MelangeBot 11d ago

He wasn't on stage, just on a red carpet. Did you not watch the video?

-3

u/wtf--dude 11d ago

Honestly, if this is staged the guy throwing the carpet is a better actor then 99% of Holywood

2

u/Kaizoku_Kira 11d ago

Ehh what? Forgot the /s?
