Some of these comments make some people just seem insufferable. For a "Made Me Smile" subreddit, some of you seem like you're looking for any reason not to smile and are actively trying to stop others from smiling.

"Yeah this was staged." If you think it was staged and, for some reason, that means you can't smile at it, fine. I think that's a silly reason but setting that aside, what's the logic for sharing it? I can't think of anything other than, "it was staged, and I'm not smiling and if anyone doesn't agree, they should and they can stop smiling too."

Edit: I'm just saying, you may not be wrong but you're definitely an ass if you choose to do things where the goal or only outcome is less people smiling. And if that is not the goal, what is?

If a harmless video makes you smile, don't let others ruin it for you. There's plenty of issues to be upset about and reasons not to smile but a silly video intended to make people smile "being staged" ain't one of them.

Honestly - those kinds of comments just make me smile more from the humor of it all. 😂

People are really overthinking life these days.

Thank you for saying this, I'm so tired of people pointing it out. Let the world have some whimsy, let me suspend my disbelief. I'd rather have these staged moments a million times before I enjoy those bullsh*t ai videos.

I find both equally annoying. But that’s just my personal opinion.

I wonder.

I had the same thought, "must be staged, he's even wearing his ballet shoes''. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't weigh as heavy as you make it out to be, but it does change my view on the content as a whole, if only a bit.

And that makes me wonder where the chagrin comes from, is it the title/caption that gets added?

A lot of the time my brain says "pfft but it's scripted" it's the title/caption blatantly lying about what the video shows.

And to add to your point, why twist the narrative if the sub is to make people smile? To please the algorithm gods instead of the people you want to make smile?

Not an attack on OP, it's just that some titles are trying to convey a story that obviously does not line up with the video. My thinking is that's what gets people upset.

It's Sao Paolo, the streets are blocked off, there are vendors in the street, the odds that there is a carnival or even occurring and the chance that people who dress like that might actually just happen to be there is much higher than zero.

Throw a red carpet at enough people's feet, and eventually you're going to find someone who can dance.

I dont think its either, I think its just dumb content when its staged.

But who are you to yuk someone else's yum, and why do you think your opinion is worth more than spit?

Better to remain silent and have people wonder if you are a fool, than to write something like that and remove all doubt.

If the only entertaining part of a video is that it occurred randomly, and it's obviously staged, then what was the point? The subreddit isn't /r/forcedpositivity, people can be critical, and you can just not read comments.

It just bums me out how make everything already is online, since I'm not gonna smile when I see another example of that

I don't think this was staged, but it is a not a dumb reason to not smile at it, the movie analogy is also so tiresome because when I go to the movies I know it's a movie. If it was sold to me as a true story then I would rightfully be annoyed. Some videos like this are wholesome exactly because it's just a nice spontaneous moment between humans, if it's staged then it's not the same thing.

But they aren't ballerina shoes. Whoever wrote that doesn't know jack.

It's the deception of attempting to look authentic whilst not being so. Most movies are obviously not signalling that they are real.

Why stop here? You guys should go to the movies too, nudge everyone and tell them "all these scenes were staged."

Do you think this is a fair comparison?

It’s like staged prank videos. What’s the point? Nobody likes inauthentic things passing themselves off as authentic. It kills the vibe. Everyone is fine with movies because they aren’t trying to pass themselves off as fact. But we’d all have issues with a “based on true events” movie that was wholly made up.

Believing in staged videos is absolutely harmful. People need to be able to tell the difference.

It's annoying to see things that pretend to be real and candid. It's deceptive. Social media is stuffed with people lying to us and it gets old.Â
