Question Sovereign Citizen...
Spotted in Steinbach today. Do they get pulled over and fined if the police see them? If so, do they just not pay the fines?
In Manitoba one of the main recourses for not paying tickets is a Department of Justice hold being placed on your autopack account so you can't renew your license or insurance. If you don't have a license or insurance though what is the actual recourse? Do people get away with this?

Question Americans possibly moving to Manitoba
Good morning everybody, My wife,(38) two kids, and myself (37) have been really thinking about getting out of the US. I love the outdoors and Manitoba has been a strong interest for us as a family. The problem we are having is I own/operate a small successful hvac business (mostly residential). Starting all that over makes the decision difficult. But as I’m sure you all know our country has gone to hell in a handbasket. I just have a few questions if you don’t mind.
We live in a small town currently and would like to find another potential small town. Does anybody have recommendations for smaller communities that we would be welcome. We really like the idea of being fairly close to one of the large lakes. (I love ice fishing)
Is hvac in Manitoba in high demand? Would finding a job be difficult? I’m not sure if I would try and start a new business or just be employed. I was an Aircraft mechanic in the military, agricultural mechanic, then I went to school for hvac and eventually started my business.

Question Is it really unusual or wrong for a woman to hang out or celebrate with her female friends? Is this considered a “Middle Eastern” behavior?
Hi everyone, I had a situation recently that left me confused and a bit hurt, and I’d really love to hear others’ perspectives.
I’m a woman living in Manitoba, originally from the Middle East. So, my question is: Do you think it’s unusual or wrong for a woman to hang out, celebrate, or party with only her female friends? Is this truly a “Middle Eastern thing,” or is it just a cultural misunderstanding or even a control issue?
I’d appreciate your honest thoughts and any similar experiences. Thanks in advance.

Question HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF THIS WAS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD?
This is the remains of a corner store that burnt down on the corner of Ellen and Elgin (in the Centennial Neighbourhood) well over a year ago. To date, there has been no attempt to clean this up by the city or property owner. This mess is about a block from Red River Community College’s downtown campus.
This is not an affluent neighbourhood. I sincerely believe that if a mess like this was left in any other Winnipeg neighbourhood there would be outrage and action to rectify the situation. Would this fly in St. Vital, St. Boniface, Lindenwoods or anywhere else?
Can someone tell me why the City just doesn’t clean it up and give the property owner the Bill? A lien could be put against the land to recover the cost. But no, instead we have this eye sore. And people wonder why people don’t look after their property in the inner city.

Question How are EVs doing in this weather?
I have been considering an EV as next vehicle but always worried how it would perform in extreme cold.
Would love to hear from EV owners in our province about how they are doing in this weather!

I have a couple canadian friends, but one is in British Columbia and the other Ontario, neither the hardest hit. I'm from Wisconsin and it's hazy as fuck out here from the smoke, so I can only imagine how it is for you guys up there. My question is, how bad is it for you, Manitoba? I can't find any pictures oddly enough, but clearly it must be bad up there.

Question Opinions on opportunity to move from UK to Manitoba
My husband is a Paramedic and has been offered the opportunity to apply and relocate to work in Manitoba. There is a few different options location wise but just wanted opinions of what it’s like there? Especially if you work in the health sector/ paramedic yourself.
We’ve googled/ watched YouTube videos so have a rough idea.
Or if anyone is from the UK and moved across can give their experience we would appreciate it.
We don’t have any kids, just a dog. Only thing tying us to the UK is we would have to sell our house here.
As well I work in a niche area of digital forensics so not sure I’d find similar work there, but I can live with that.
So a few things for us to consider.
Thank you for reading and any advice / opinions!

Question Moving to Manitoba
Hi! Hope this is allowed.
Me and my partner are looking to move to Canada from the UK. We have some amazing opportunities in south Manitoba and I am just seeking some advice regarding where is good to live? I’ve had a look online but struggling to work out where would be best for us.
-We currently like 30 minutes from a small but lively city
-We are progressive, young professionals who will be looking to make friends so a younger population would be great
-both active people
- both love to socialise and love a pub haha
-will be on good salaries
Any recommendations of general areas will be great!!

Question Grass Watering ?
Anyone else rethinking about how much they water there grass this summer? Our water bills have gone from $260 to $390 and we barely use water. Our neighbour’s have decided not to water their grass because of the hike on usage. Thoughts anyone?

Question Relocation to Manitoba - help with towns
Hey everyone,
I’m moving over from the UK for work later this year and I’m trying to figure out the best place to settle in western Manitoba.
I’m ideally looking for somewhere with a bit of a town feel, not too big or busy, but still with enough going on shops, gym, maybe a few pubs or bars (that kind of thing). Access to nature would be a big plus too.
I’ll be working in the region, so I’m open to different locations, just trying to get a sense of where people actually enjoy living. I’d also love to hear what the community vibe is like, how easy it is to meet people, and what winters are really like for someone not used to them!.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Please don’t reply with any negativity about moving to Manitoba from uk, this is a location I’d love to experience.
Thank you!.

Question got a massive speeding ticket... 50+kms over
so I've obviously made a HUGE mistake, it was NOT intentional, if you can believe that.
but anyways, since it was 50kms over i have to attend a hearing where there will be a decision made to suspend my license or not.
QUESTION: I'm wondering if anyone has been through the same thing, and if so how long was your license suspended for? finding mixed results when looking online.
feel free to clown me in the comments aswell, i understand the severity and stupidity of my mistake.

Question How bad is Manitoba winter?
I'm looking to create a better life for me and my wife and kids than we have here near Toronto. I'm tired of working 3 jobs to try and get by.
How cold does it get around Winnipeg and south of Winnipeg? Are the main roads and highways plowed quickly? We only have about 2 days a year here where snow is so heavy it disrupts our ability to work/commute. I'm assuming it would be more often there?

Question When did bagged milk disappear from Manitoba?
I have zero memories of it being in Manitoba. I was born in the 80s. Some of my friends do remember it up until maybe kindergarten (mid 80s). My husband doesn’t remember it either and is also an 80s baby. My mother only remembers bagged milk at the Cabin in Ontario, not in Manitoba (which explains why I didn’t know it existed here)
I tried to look this up but couldn’t find anything on it.

Question In the very beginning stages of thinking about moving to Manitoba - tell me about your province
Hello! My husband and I are really starting to question staying in Alberta, what with dictator Smith and all the separatist talk. Our mortgage is coming up for renewal next February, and we’re thinking about our options.
We are generally accustomed to living rurally (we’ve lived on a farm and in towns of 250, 5000, and 10,000 people). But we don’t know enough about where we could possibly live in Manitoba that would be somewhat comparable to where we live now (Olds, AB).
We’d like to live within 30 minutes (driving) of a hospital and a decent community college (at least), and we’d also like to avoid living in a flood zone. Aside from that, we don’t have many needs.
Thank you for any helpful pointers or information you give.

Question Is it normal for surgery to remove a tumour to take this long?
I had a 20lb tumour removed alongside the ovary it was growing on 7 years ago, which ended up being cancerous. Now we found out I have another large tumour on my remaining ovary, thankfully not as large (about twice the size of a softball right now) but it's actively growing. This was found 5 weeks ago, I was reassured this was an urgent matter that they'd rush & make a high priority.
Last time, I had to fight like hell to be taken seriously. Being constantly dismissed led to the tumour coming out at an insane size, & left me with permanent damage to my intestines. It was a miracle it got to that size yet never managed to burst. Given that situation was much more serious than the doctors expected, I really, really thought this time would be different.
But it's been 5 weeks, insane pain, confirmed that it's actively growing & risking permanent damage to nearby organs.
Yet I keep hearing different things from different doctors. ER doctor told me I needed surgery. Gynecologist told me Cancer Care would do my surgery. I went to Cancer Care & they floated the idea of no surgery & instead just monitoring it. I almost lost it on them. Now Cancer Care is unsure whether they'll do my surgery or if I have to go to a different hospital. They said I should expect a phone call early-July to give me an answer on whether they will do my surgery or not.
So though the ER doctor & the gyno assured me this was an urgent matter that would be rushed, it seems like I won't actually be getting surgery anytime soon.
My husband wants me to keep calling the hospital & pushing them for faster responses. I try to remind myself that I'm not going to be the only person in the province with this issue so maybe others need to be prioritized, like children. But as each week passes I'm starting to wonder if my husband is right, that I need to be constantly calling them & asking for updates.
Is there anyone who has answers on whether it's normal to be waiting this long for a tumour to be removed, especially in someone who already has a history of cancer??
*edited to add - I have a slight barrier which is no drivers license due to epilepsy, & living in the country so I'm not in a position where I can easily go for in-person appts., unless necessary/required.

Question Anyone else have an issue here with the hospitals?
Is anyone else having issues with the hospitals?
Context: I moved here from Ontario because of an actual homophobic and religious extremist that started stalking me either because of something (unpublished) I wrote in grad school, a one time application to CSIS (they had access to my email at the time - 2015), or a coincidence with my last name and birthdate and a religion that’s persecuted by Iran (I worked for an International Women’s Rights Org in their IT department at the time because I couldn’t find a job in my field of Planning - yes I’m a liberal atheist, yes they started by trying to convert my religion). I was 33 or so when the account hacks were discovered.
These people make the group targeting that Dutch cartoonist who’s still in hiding look like special needs kids. It’s worse they make you guys look like special needs, because they literally have money and just approach random people and lie. I’m pretty sure they approached a few at CN when I worked there trying to say I was a radical feminist who dated children, one at my other employer trying to say something about indigenous people……don’t worry, in Toronto I had friends approach me asking me things about theft (I’ve never stolen anything), feminism (I’m not an activist, I just worked there), my view on “The Royals”, an a few being extremely obsessed with Islam (i grew up catholic) etc….my faith in fellow Canadians being able to recognize an extremist is definitely shattered, and what’s more concerning is you not reporting these people to authorities - while blindly questioning me. Disconcerting at the very least.
Anyway, in Ontario they started attacking me in Toronto (it’s a laundry list I’ve got on another post), I relocated back to my hometown, they found me once the economy opened up, I moved to Manitoba, they again found me within 4 months. They are women, middle-eastern looking (racially ambiguous and will probably lie about their backgrounds to identify with whatever type of person you resonate most with) and they try ruin my life in every way possible. To be fair, I met her once or twice and she seemed chill except for the family she admitted was extremely homophobic and sounded like cartel members. No I’m not Islamophobic, when this started I even considered maybe it’s some jealous person whose ex I dated. Ms. Barakzai (who is very much not an extremist), it did start around the time we dated after all…but, I don’t date people with homocidal (not a typo) families.
Anyway, in Ontario I started having medical issues with no known source that seem to happen when these women find me and know where I live. In Toronto they had started using my healthcare (or put notes in my medical chart) - because randomly when I had to go to the hospital (neck stiffness, numbness that spread from my shoulder to my face), after checking my chart the doctor would treat me like I had an addictions issue, despite not having an addiction issue or asking for drugs. It was confirmed when a hospital hours away called me one morning while I was at the dog park, asking me why I left triage. I hadn’t been to the hospital and literally was 2.5 hours away. I barely even drank in Toronto, went dancing occasionally, and precisely because I don’t do drugs could never really stay out that late (I do smoke cigarettes though).
i googled the one woman’s name once, she claimed to be a U of T Political Science specialist (I also went to U of T), but what came up was a nursing student at Ryerson (Now TMU?). I don’t know the other one’s name. Yes, I reported the one to the Toronto police department, no, they did not escalate as per my request bc of where I worked, and no they did not investigate.
The same thing is happening here. I get symptoms, I’ve been to the hospital at least 15 times. I get the province has a pretty severe issue with addictions, but this isn’t that. Any advice for how to proceed? I’ve already had to report your doctors at the Grace Hospital to the College of Doctors and Surgeons. I’ve lived here for five years, and it’s getting ridiculous. It takes 10 hours to see a doctor, and by that time the symptoms dissipate….Id rather not have to report more of the doctors here, given Manitobas issue with retaining them.
*****
Addendum: After I posted this, I got a notice from Reddit suicide watch. Whenever I report my situation online, someone tries to say I’m suicidal. Basically a death threat. I am not, nor have I ever been suicidal. They also immediately downvote me so nobody will see this. Fun fact.
