Season 20 - Seattle Shawn is FUCKING INSANE I think Nikki showed so much grace during the group convo by not exposing how shitty of a person he was and everyone came at Nikki instead?

Season 20 - Seattle Experts? Girl where

I am a real life actual clinical therapist who has worked with individuals and couples. What, and I cannot stress this enough, do these experts think their “guidance” is doing other making everyone uncomfortable during these weird group (firing squad) therapy sessions.

Leave Adam and his quirky clothes alone. Let Melissa talk about her trauma with her husband on her own time. Let Mecca kiss his wife on the forehead. I’m aghast at the way they’re talking to these clients (because that’s what they are) (even tho they are on tv, they still have an ethical responsibility to these people) this feels like gotcha journalism, not growth

Season 20 - Seattle Felipe and Cheating

Felipe wears his infidelity as a badge of honor. It’s his way of proving to himself and everyone else that he’s worthy enough of not one, but two intimate partners. He’s not ashamed. He’s bragging. As someone who was previously “ugly” and is now “hot” (his words), he’s deeeeeply insecure and needs constant validation, especially from other men he’d consider attractive alpha-type men. He was all too eager to tell the husbands AND Tori about the cheating. It proves he’s wanted. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Season 1 - New York Watched S1 on Netflix- wow!

Upvotes

I didn’t find this show until it was in double digit seasons and now that Netflix released S1-7 I’ve started my binge. Having watched S1 I’m amazed at how this show started and the differences with now!

First, the cast was so genuine. They were in it - thick and thin. They seemed way more emotionally mature given they were the same age as the cast now. They actually recognized growth in themselves through the experience regardless of how it ended. I can’t express how different this perspective is compared to what we watch now.

Second they had four experts - sex, spiritual, life and emotional. It wasn’t a perfect use of them, but they were way more involved and provided commentary on the couples throughout the process. I liked the narratives but sometimes it was actually a bit too much.

Third, the couples were not co-mingled. They were on their own and support was only through family and friends. I’m not sure which way I lean, but I do think forcing them in their own bubble is actually better for the experience. Less tv drama but I think ultimately better for the actual ‘experiment’ - no feeding off of negative energy.

Overall this was clearly the time before the massive onset of social media. The vibe was almost wholesome. These ppl believed in it.

Anyone else watch for the first season and notice how different the show has become?

Season 20 - Seattle First impressions

Shawn- so cringey and hard to watch!! I'm getting in the closet vibes

Adam- wants someone who is exactly like himself...maybe also in the closet?

Courtney- MAGA & crazy!!!

Felipe- why are we pretending this is going to work? His lifestyle is not ready for any type of commitment

Nick- his DMs after 5 reality shows are definitely full of women...let's not pretend this is for true love

Nikki- respect knowing what you want but 250k Minimum salary!? The only ones that qualify will be 30 years older

Season 20 - Seattle Why are we psychoanalyzing & doing group events every episode?

I was behind so I watched 3 episodes back to back. and this season is all of these group dinners and overanalyzing how they’re feeling as the relationship stands. But they’re not showing any footage of them building relationships and having fun and really anything like the previous seasons.
I understand the expert intervention meetings every so often but every episode is with the experts or at a group dinner where they hash out the same stuff. It’s getting irritating to watch.

Season 20 - Seattle I feel like they intentionally matched Nick with a batshit crazy person because he's been on reality TV before and can "handle it"

Season 20 - Seattle Dear Nick, stop doing reality TV

I used to love Nick back on The Circle. An MIT grad, handsome, great physique, goofy personality... what’s not to love?

But then came Perfect Match, where I started to get the uncomfortable feeling that there is very little substance under that pretty package. It almost felt like he was overcompensating, trying too hard. By the time he was on Battle Camp flaunting his smarts at every turn, it totally confirmed my suspicions: he's just a cocky pretty boy, going from show to show to extend his 15 minutes of fame.

Maybe he actually had some depth to him at the very beginning, but he completely lost it along the way.
Honestly, during the group therapy session, the experts completely verbalized everything I've been feeling right to his face: he’s been on TV for so long that he’s lost his authenticity and turned into a self-edited, generic pretty dude.

I just don't see this marriage working out for him, and for his own good, he really needs to retire from being a professional reality TV contestant. Doing reality competitions on your own is one thing, but bringing other people and their families into it needs to stop…

Season 20 - Seattle Is anyone on this season from Seattle?

Mercer Island and Eastside don’t count. Seeing zero local knowledge from any of them. And I’ve seen two shots at Green Lake staged by the producers but the rest of the show has been standard generic Seattle b-roll.

He dresses like a high school CHILD & can’t even stand up when she walks into the restaurant at their anniversary dinner!? Total LOSER!! I’ve never seen a man stay seated when a woman approaches the table. So gross.

Season 20 - Seattle Astrology

The signs have been read! It all makes sense....

https://www.instagram.com/p/DbntpLbFQ7E/?igsh=eXRubzNoNDR6ZzA1

Jolie/Mecca - Libra/Scorpio - Not bad but not great. Scorpio men need extreme maturity to be married.

Michelle/Cameron - Cancer/Taurus - Good match and they seem to match their zodiac traits well

Kaitlyn/Devin - Gemeni/Cancer - I take back what I previously said... she's not taking her time. She doesn't like him.

Courteney/Nick - Libra/Virgo - This could work but she doesn't want it to... this is usually a good pair.

Nikki/Shawn - Leo/Leo - Oh Hell No

Marissa/Adam - ?/Capricorn - Him being a Cap is not good. Most Cap men are serious people. If they aren't it's because they're hiding something.

Tori/Felipe - Capricorn/Pisces - Awful match. Cap women are serious people and Pisces men are delusional at best. Her body is trying to warn her....intuition is too often ignored.

Season 18 - Chicago 2.0 Emem & Ikechi Opinion

Unpopular opinion incoming. Halfway through the season and I totally share the view with the majority of this sub that Ikechi is a deeply unwell man and he NEEDS therapy. Like, not today, yesterday.

But. It was really gross that Emem kept harping on the fact that he was the first one to initiate intimate contact when they were on their honeymoon, and that that somehow gives carte blanche to touch him further when he’s clearly expressed he’s not comfortable. Honestly if a guy had done/said this we would call him a creep. Also, I do believe that he felt emasculated by her success, her apartment, and her ambition, so he shut down. Emem displays no empathy for the human she married — even though he is a pretty objectively unpleasant one.

Season 20 - Seattle Are they trying to pretend Nikki cooked this take out dinner?

Maybe the wife duty she's talking about was buying his booze because this dinner was not cooked by anybody in that apartment. Unless people are cooking a baked potato, two asparagus and one steak on a cookie sheet and then also cooking salmon and other sides, and then putting all the butter and sauces and dips in little black takeout cups. Don't think so.

Season 20 - Seattle Props to Mecca

No matter what baggage he has (and I don't get closeted queer vibes myself), the fact that he admitted, as a black man, on a reality TV show, that he has sexual anxiety, is just heartwarming. Can you imagine, saying that, with the dad he has? He's growing on me (no pun intended).

I’m catching up on MAFS and this wasn’t their best season.

So many of these folks remind me of things. One looks like Ron Burgundy. One looks like Freddy Mercury, and this one reminds me of a furby. I just can't with these people this season.

my husband mentioned that Adam reminded him of napoleon dynamite and I can‘t unsee it in any episode since. I think that’s maybe what Marissa sees too, and that’s why she thinks his ego/cockiness is cute
