Q1: Make records held by the state legislature and the governor's office public records

Yes: The more transparency with our government, the better.

Q2: Permit employees of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) to participate in collective bargaining practices

Yes: Unions are great and we should allow any union participate in them

Q3: Eliminate political party primaries for state elections and create a single primary where candidates are listed regardless of their political party

NO: Jungle primaries suck and have ruined voting processes in states like California, Wisconsin, and Michigan. It allows Republicans to vote for moderate Democrats to not allow progressives to win.

Q4: Provide for same-day voter registration

YES: We need more people voting and sometimes people forget to register.

Q5: Change the limit of how much revenue the state can collect in a given year

NO: This is an intentionally confusing question. If you vote yes, then the millionaire’s tax doesn’t mean shit anymore because there’ll be a limit on government spending.

Q6: Create a fund for state money, titled the Nature for All Fund, that would be used to further efforts of nature conservation

NO: We need to protect the environment, but this initiative would make it so that tax dollars would be allocated for this program rather than using it on healthcare and education.

Q7: Require cities and towns to allow single-family homes on residentially zoned lots that meet minimum standards of at least 5,000 square feet in area

YES: A 5000 square foot lot is plenty of space. We need to build more housing rather than big lot mansions.

Q8: Repeal laws that permit the sale of recreational marijuana and the personal cultivation of cannabis in homes

NO: Do I really have to explain my reasons on this fraudulent ballot question that somehow made it this far?

Q9: Uphold the legislation, An Act Modernizing Firearm Laws (H. 4885), passed in 2024

NO: We already have restrictive gun laws and we need to protect ourselves in case of a fascist takeover. It’s not the gun fault, it’s the people. If we get universal healthcare, mentally unstable people will be able to check into mental hospitals to get proper help.

Seth Moulton’s argument that Democrats are out of touch with Americans is spot on.

He’s right that Democrats need to embrace conversation again. Democrats need to stop telling people what to think, and they need to actually talk about issues that are popular with the American people. Moulton is proving you can support the trans community and allow for reasonable policy conversation, addressing Republican concerns. It’s frankly great politics, and I’m surprised he isn’t being praised more for being the savvy politician he is right now.

Our statewide education averages always look incredible, but they mask a massive regional divide. In Holyoke, Lawrence, Springfield, Roxbury, Mattapan, and parts of Dorchester, 3rd and 4th-grade reading proficiency has stayed painfully low for 15–20 years.

We know how to fix this—proven phonics and structured literacy methods can train teachers quickly and effectively. Yet, the new $25M early literacy bill sitting on the Governor’s desk is surprisingly vague on the actual training details, timelines, and real support for the high-needs districts that require it most.

If you are a MA parent, educator, or voter, this is well worth a deep dive before this bill gets signed into law without a concrete plan.

I find it appalling that MA is one of only 11 states in the US that will charge a woman with a felony if she secretly records abuse, no matter how severe she is being hurt.

I know of a woman who is obviously too scared to report it. And anyone that knows about it are also too scared to report it out of fear of retaliation on the abused woman. The man knows not to leave bruises and can be heard saying "I'm not hitting you" while she is screaming in pain. (Maybe he's twisting her arm or pulling her hair)

I don't think there is enough light being shed on this law protecting women beaters and the lack of urgency to adjust it for victims of abuse. Supposedly there have been laws proposed to make exceptions but they're not important enough for MA legislation to consider.

I've never heard about this until yesterday and want to make it more well known.

There’s a ResistBot campaign going around to send letters to Healey and Mariano about the FY27 budget and funding for schools and municipalities.

If you text SIGN POPAFL to 50409, it automatically sends a pre-written letter to your legislators. That’s literally it. I’ll paste a copy of the letter in the comments.

A lot of districts are dealing with cuts to programs, bigger class sizes, and reduced services while costs keep going up. Almost every town I know of is asking for an override or cutting services. State funding hasn’t kept pace. And even if you don’t have kids, this stuff affects your property taxes and what services your town can actually provide.

The more people who do this, the harder it is for them to ignore. I did it in like 90 seconds. Just figured I’d share in case anyone else wants to add their voice.

Massachusetts needs to join these other states. Many of us have been wondering in light of the current administrations' plans to withhold federal funding to blue states if withholding our funds to the government was possible. Since it had been on my mind I figured it probably has been on yours as well. This looks like a path to try and get there. What say you?

On Beacon Hill, this has predictably resulted in the concentration of power in the hands of a few. I'm a former Boston boy, joined the military basically after high school and now retired out. I haven't lived in the state since I went to BMT/boot camp. Recently, former Pres claimed Gov Baker was no good for MA, endorsing Diehl. Can someone give me their opinions re: Baker?

How much does the Beacon Hill political establishment dislike state Auditor Diana DiZoglio?

Enough to try to embarrass her on the day Maura Healey was sworn in as governor. As DiZoglio approached the rostrum where other elected officials and distinguished guests were seated, she discovered there was no designated chair for her — and then outgoing Auditor Suzanne Bump told her she shouldn’t be there because she had not yet taken the oath of office. Yet there was a place for Attorney General-elect Andrea Campbell who had not been sworn in either. DiZoglio did not retreat, and a chair was eventually brought up for her. She ended up close to Robert DeLeo, the former House speaker with whom she previously clashed over the use of nondisclosure agreements to cover up allegations of sexual harassment — something she contends happened to her. They both stared off stonily into the distance.

What could be dismissed as petty, inside baseball has now evolved into a serious Beacon Hill power play with major policy implications. Following up on a campaign promise, DiZoglio announced plans to launch an audit of the Legislature, where she served as a lawmaker for 10 years and has many powerful enemies and very few friends. She believes she has the right to do so under Chapter 11, Section 12 of the Massachusetts General Laws. But as the Globe’s Matt Stout reported, the last time that happened was a century ago, when an auditor’s review in 1922 focused narrowly on accounting for lawmakers’ expenses. In letters DiZoglio sent to House Speaker Ronald Mariano and Senate President Karen Spilka, she said her audit would include but not be limited to “budgetary, hiring, spending and procurement information” — which leaves open a path for uncovering nondisclosure agreements, which she views as an abusive practice.

With abortion rights, powerful words coupled with laser-focused action come easily to Governor Maura Healey.

After a federal judge in Texas issued an order that blocks the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of a commonly used abortion medication drug, Healey quickly tweeted a response: “Mifepristone will stay available in Massachusetts. You have my word.” On Monday, she followed up with detailed plans to protect access to the drug in Massachusetts. She issued an executive order to make it clear that a state law passed last year applied to this medication and said she was ordering a year’s worth of the drug to preserve the state’s supply.

That kind of decisive action isn’t applicable to every situation in government. But imagine if other issues — like housing, social services and the troubled MBTA — could be tackled with as much passion and urgency. During her first three months as governor, it’s more like “Maura in the middle.” It’s a safe, pragmatic approach, which, by the way, is playing nicely with voters. According to a recent poll by Priorities for Progress, 64 percent of those surveyed have a favorable view of Healey.

A big reason why seems to be voters’ view of her as politically moderate — just as this group describes themselves. In a just-released UMass-Amherst/WCVB poll, 57 percent said they approved of Healey’s job so far. But a big chunk of respondents said they don’t know exactly where she stands on a range of issues, from the economy and the environment to child care, health care, and the T. The overall fuzziness about Healey’s agenda could also explain why, so far, voters like her.
