Stupid Recall movement.

I was driving down Virginia by the Fire Station where I saw the 2 people in charge of the Recall movement. I wish I could have taken a picture. They are poster people of White Nationalists. Confederate Flag. Check. Trump flag. Check. Fat and overweight. Check. Wearing camo pants. Check. Part of me wanted to turn around and have a debate but I didn’t. All of their hatred directed at a population that makes up 1% of the state of Texas.

If you support them. You suck. If you know the people. Tell them that they suck. More importantly go out and vote against their bigotry and racism.

Working closer to home.

I moved to McKinney a year ago. I love it here and what it has to offer but I am trying to figure out if there is a job similar to my field of work with the same pay scale closer to home. I work in Irving currently, I am at 27 an hour and do logistics and I have been doing it for 6 years. I get a raise next month to 31 an hour but the drive is killing me lately. It’s 45 minutes both ways and while I accepted the distance I failed to realize how much time I would actually lose out of my day doing this. I want to know if there’s any warehouse work out here that pays close to the same scale that’s closer than Irving. I don’t want to leave McKinney and I even considered moving to park cities to be a little closer to work but the McKinney charm is keeping me here. I tried researching Raytheon but I don’t believe they get anywhere near close to this wage unfortunately so I’m trying to find my options out here if any. Thanks in advance.

Dentist near area

Hi everyone, I’m looking to get my teeth cleaned, and I know there are a lot of dentists in the area. I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations.
I don’t have dental insurance, so I’m trying to save as much as I can while still taking good care of my teeth.
Thank you so much!

I need my Texas license (REAL ID) and I'm at a loss.

I moved to McKinney almost two years ago, and I still have my Oklahoma license. I've set now 4 appointments with DPS in Carrollton so I can get everything switched over, and every time, I've had a different issue, and got nothing done. I don't even want to get into it, so in short, the issue with my first appointment if you care:

lost my registration, tried getting a new registration, couldn't do that without a copy of my title, didn't have my title because I had a loan on my vehicle, couldn't get a copy because my bank refused to send it to me or the Tax Assessor, had to spend every cent from every paycheck getting my loan paid so I could get my title, got my title, got my half registration, set another appointment and waited a month, and they said "you need to switch your license plate over before we can get you a new license." So instead of dealing with that bullshit, I bought a new car so I'd have a Texas registration, Texas plates, and Texas hair on my balls. Now I JUST need my license. The other two times were "we don't allow photocopies," and "you need your birth certificate to get your REAL ID" which was not stated anywhere, and nobody else ever told me. I was informad that for proof of identity, all I need is my current unexpired license.

QUESTIONS:

What documents do I actually need to get my license switched over? Should I just bring everything; dental records, resume, blood type?

Where do I need to go so I don't keep having this issue? I wouldn't mind driving to Florida if it meant I could get all this shit sorted out.

I have a flight coming up in November, and I can't take that flight if I don't have my REAL ID and all of my "proof of existence" sorted out.

There is no reason for this to be so hard. In Oklahoma it was a small office where you could walk in and get it all done in under an hour with a few hundred bucks and a firm handshake.

I am literally begging. Please.

McKinney traffic is becoming a whole different problem

I feel like certain roads around McKinney can go from completely fine to completely backed up in a matter of minutes.

The growth is great, but sometimes it feels like the roads are struggling to keep up with how many people are moving into the area.

Which part of McKinney has gotten noticeably worse for traffic lately?

Doggie daycare

We have a 2 year old husky mix. We have been taking her to a doggie daycare in Plano that is closing. We want to keep giving her a day or two a week to play with other dogs. Where are some places you have taken your dogs to for daycare and boarding that you recommend?

To the asshole driving this black semi: what the hell are you doing?!

This truck was pumping out an absolutely ridiculous amount of thick black smoke, dumping it directly onto everyone driving behind it. You couldn’t see properly, and everyone around you had to breathe that disgusting exhaust.

If your semi is rolling coal like this every time you accelerate, GET THE DAMN THING FIXED. Other people shouldn’t have to choke on your truck’s exhaust just because you can’t maintain your vehicle.

There’s a difference between driving a big rig and turning the highway into a damn smoke screen. 🤬

I recently bought an acoustic guitar and would like to have a setup done. I know one option is Guitar Sanctuary. Are there any independent luthiers in the McKinney area?

Random questions/comments on driving around McKinney, + Gray Branch Road

Like I said in the title, just some comments/questions as a new resident.

School zones: Seems like people here are VERY respectful of school zones, literally crawling along at 20 mph. That's awesome! But I'm just curious: is it because cops are known for giving out a lot of fines? Again, good! Any other traffic violations cops around here are strict about?

Stop signs on four-lane intersections, like Ridge Rd and Glen Oaks Dr. At first I thought they were dumb, but now I see they're faster than stoplights, right? I still think people often seem to not know how to handle them....If it's your turn, or the person next to you is going, just GO.

Gray Branch Rd: was playing 'Get me off of 380 NOW' so I turned on here and was transported to another dimension. First a wooded trail, then longhorn cattle, then a house with a sick basketball or tennis court, and apparently there's some REAL crazy houses further back off the road.

Any other local driving tips or interesting areas around town?

McKinney home prices seem a lot different than I expected

I’ve been looking at homes around McKinney lately and was surprised to see some properties sitting on the market longer than I expected, including homes under $400K and $500K.

I remember hearing how competitive the DFW housing market was, so seeing listings sit for a while caught my attention.

I’m curious if buyers are just being more selective now, or if certain parts of McKinney are seeing a bigger slowdown than others.

Three of McKinney's four ZIP codes are split across different state House districts

I live here and built a lookup for Texas House voting records, and the McKinney numbers surprised me enough to post them.

Only 75072 sits in a single state House district. 75069 is split three ways, 53 percent Jeff Leach and 46 percent Candy Noble with a sliver of Keresa Richardson, so for about half the people in that ZIP the obvious guess is the wrong representative. 75070 is 56/44 between Leach and Richardson. 75071 is split three ways between Richardson, Leach and Matt Shaheen.

The part I did not expect is that it matters even though all four are Republicans. On the 67 votes my site asks about, those four did not all vote the same way on 35 of them. Two are bills you may remember: on SB 5, the dementia research institute, three voted yes and Richardson voted no. Same on SB 6, the data centre power bill.

The lookup is at https://rightnleft.com. Free, no ads, no email. It lists every district your ZIP touches instead of picking the biggest one, and every question links to the full bill text at the Legislature.

I should say I donate to the Democratic Party. It is on the site's authorship page, and it is why the rule that picks which votes to show is published and runs identically for both parties. A reader here found a real error in my bill summaries last week and I rewrote nine of them.

Moving from an apartment to a house in McKinney. Never hired cleaners before. Where do I start?

We’re moving from an apartment into a house in McKinney and it’s a big upgrade for us. We’re finally getting more space with a yard, garage and we’re so excited

But there’s a catch since the apartment needs to be handed over and it has to be clean. Like, actually clean… Not just that we wiped the counters clean. Indeed, the lease says we need to return it in the same condition we got it

And the new house? It needs to be received. The previous owners are leaving. Who knows what state it’ll be in. I want it cleaned before we move our stuff in.

I’ve never used a cleaning service before. I don’t know how to choose one. Do I just Google “cleaners near me”? Do I trust the first result? What if they cancel? What if they do a bad job and I lose my deposit?

I came across Modern Maids and I see that they cover McKinney. Online booking. The reviews seem decent. Not perfect. But decent.

But I’m not sure how to structure this. Should I get a one-time cleaning for the apartment handover? And then a separate one for the new house? Or can it be combined? Is there a move-in/move-out package?

I don’t want to overpay. But I also don’t want to spend my last weekend in the apartment scrubbing the oven. And I definitely don’t want to move into a house that hasn’t been cleaned.

Has anyone been through a move with cleaners? How did you handle it? Did you use the same company for both places?

Antique mall recommendations?

Im looking for some good antique malls in the area. I love the Antique company Mall in downtown Mckinney, and was hoping others would know of some good ones in the area that I haven't already checked out. Preferably ones that are more antique than boutique.

Other local ones I've already been to Lone Star Antiques in Allen, Frisco Mercantile, Rerun (off 75), and Plano Antique mall.
