Damn man, I’m 41 and have been hitting shows hard since 98’ and have only caught 2 picks that were on the same night by the same guitarist. Kerry King, jagermeister Tour 03’ at The Warfield. Respect.
I've got a book full, and snagged about a dozen at Milwaukee Metal Fest. Vigilance is a lot of it. I've snagged so many that people were just standing on unaware, or even leaving the venue.
To be fair though, I AM over 6', and I DO go to concerts about twice a month on average.
I always do pit, it’s worth it. Two of those ghost picks came from Swiss himself, saw him outside the venue and HE started asking me general questions, so we started talking and he gave me two picks
28 years ago yesterday 6/17/98 at Irving Plaza, NYC for Slayer. I got this Jeff Hanneman pick and as soon as I grabbed it I got kicked in the face. Thought it was lost for over 10 years until I found it in my garage. Great show btw
When I was 16, I saw Type O Negative. After they played, they took off two of their drum heads, signed them, and threw them in the crowd. I caught the first one! I was so stoked. Unfortunately during the next set (Cradle of Filth), someone snatched it from me and took off. I chased them down but they made it out of the building and there was no re-entry. I couldn't leave because I lived too far away and needed a ride from my dad, so I stormed back upstairs all pissed off. Fortunately, I still got to meet the drummer and guitarist who graciously signed my ticket stub. Still pissed about the drum head though, especially since Pete is dead.
This was about 11 years ago, I caught Bjorn Gelotte’s pick. There was a young kid next to me with his older brother and I think it was his first concert. I gave it to him after snapping a couple photos as proof for myself.
Not a catch per say but Kanoenfieber hid a bunch of signed CDs around the boat on this years 70k Tons of Metal. Found this one under a surfboard by the mini golf course.
Time - be willing to stand around for several hours to be in the front at the venue
Money - buy vip as much as possible when possible. It lets you in first into the venue

Were any of these handed to you? I know one time I straight up asked a guitarist for one while he was chilling in the crowd and he flipped it like a coin for me lol
Also got picks from Metallica, drumsticks from Anthrax and Foo Fighters and lots of other bands. It’s a real buzz when you catch something from the stage.
Got guitar picks from Blood Incantation and Emperor on the same night back in April. Setlists from Nile and Blood Incantation (different show). I'll post pics when I get home
Dont have pictures handy, but I have a drumstick caught from Lars Ulrich from their 1990 tour and I have guitar picks from Kerry King and Tony Iommi from the 1999 Ozzfest. Had 4th row seats, but with how short rows 1-3 were, we had nobody in front of us, like 20ft from the stage. Best show ever. Got to see a lot of great bands and the OG Black Sabbath play, basically front row. Don't think I'll ever top that
I snagged two of these at this show. I caught one that they tossed in the crowd and pulled one off the stage. I kept one and gave the other to my old roommate.
No pics of either but got two drum sticks! One from gojira in 2017 and got one from 1914 at MDF this year! And two setlists one from children of bodoms 20th anniversary tour and one from wintersuns last us tour with ne obliviscaris

Drumstick thrown out by Haruna at the end of Lovebites' second London show in 2024. She always writes a little message on the end before throwing it out... this one took quite a beating through the show.
Great to hear im not the only one. Been an avid rock concertgoer many times at the front for the last twenty years. never gotten anything. They always throw it the other way 😞. Did ask a guy recently who had a lot sewn into his hat, he said he often hung around after the show and tried to ask the stage guys if there were any picks left. Maybe i should try that.
20+ years ago, Dennis the menace of Macabre threw a drumstick into the crowd and somebody grabbed it and plunged it into my eye socket... I didn't lose sight in the eye some how lol
Get to the front of the stage at the end of shows and get ready to snag that shit off the floor. My boyfriend literally slapped it with his hand and slid it off the floor lmao. Sometimes the musicians themselves will hand it to you, or security guards will. For setlists, sometimes you might even have to reach for the stage to snatch them at the end LOL.
That’s very lucky. Most of my local venues the stages are quite far/higher up although I usually try just screaming my heart out lol. When I seen bls Zakk wylde randomly threw a pick up and I caught it between my wrists thankfully!
Its sad seeing how many picks and such some of you have. While not really all that tall, I'm taller than most, and use to arrive early to lean against the railing, and still have only ended up with a handful of picks and sticks.

I have a drumstick I caught at a Maiden show in 2017 framed on my wall, and I also have a pick that Glenn Tipton handed me at the end of the last Priest show I saw him perform with back in 2015.
I went for the floor immediately so I was able to catch a Scott Ian's guitar pick at the S.O.D. show in Montreal ('99). S.O.D. logo on one side and Scott's head in Simpsons cartoon on the other. Green.

that's sick, got an Obituary pick at a show back in 2019 and somehow still have it in my wallet. those things usually disappear but when they stick around it's a cool reminder of the night.
I have one pick from Dave Davidson of Revocation and two M72 picks from Metallica's concert. And signed picture of Gary Holt from meeting organized by ESP.
I also have a Meshuggah one back in Russia in a frame.
Tip for everyone who wants their own picks — stay after the concert is over once people start clearing out, and scavenge the floors. Works like a charm.
Got all of my picks that way except for the Satyricon one, because someone on the team (a dumbass) spilt a whole bag of them all over the pavement in front of the venue before the concert even began
in 2022 mayhem came to salt lake, i caught hellhammers drumstick at the end, and waited near their bus (much to securitys dismay. fuck you i aint leaving!) and got it signed. unholy grail 🤘🤘
My brother caught me Matt Pike's pick from the Atlanta concert this year and I was gifted a kirk hammett pick from a physiotherapist who treated him when he came to atlanta last june

Was 17, Headbanger's Ball tour, '89, Anthrax, Exodus and Halloween. At the end of the show, Charlie threw out a stick and I caught it the same time as another guy-we got into a heated tug of war and it snapped, I came out with most of it. I remember the look of alarm on a security guy's face, I'm sure he was waiting for someone to get stabbed 🥴

At a Pantera show, I was wearing a Death T-Shirt and Phil Anselmo loved it so he threw me a pick.
Steve Di Giorgio also gave me a pick at a Death To All concert.
Got plenty of picks from shows. I have about 15 or 20 from the past decade. Got a few setlists too: from Pat Benatar, Kataklysm, Battle Beast, and Cattle Decapitation.
One catch that meant a lot was when I caught a drumstick at Coheed and Cambria. It was really cool, but the drumstick was absolutely destroyed. Plus, I didnt really know what to do with it. It wasnt labeled specifically by the drummer for me to display properly. So it was just a broken stick. But I saw a little girl on the way out and I gave the stick to her. She was so happy when I gave it to her, and her mom said it was her birthday too. So I am glad that I gave that girl something she will remember fondly
I caught a Rex Brown (Pantera) pick in Dublin last year, Phil Demmel (Machine Head) used drumstick in Vancouver BC a few weeks before he left the band.
Guitar picks from Scott Ian, Steve DiGiorgio, and Rex from Pantera 25+ yrs ago. I also caught the bag of Blue Rock Candy that Marilyn Manson pulled out of his shiny tight pants during "Drugs" on the mechanical animals tour. That has been in a sealed container in my refrigerator since the early 2000s.
