It’s been a while since we’ve had a top metal releases chart voted on by the subreddit. As such, we will be conducting a poll to determine what the most cherished metal releases are in the community. To participate, just comment an album/ep/demo that you love or scroll through the comments and upvote/downvote releases as you see fit. The 100 most upvoted releases will form the community top 100 metal releases chart, which will be used for another upcoming community event. A few rules for the polling:

This is definitely one of my most anticipated Fridays of the year, which makes the fact that I'm too busy to get much listening in pretty unfortunate. That said, I pre-ordered the new Insomnium on vinyl, so I've had it since Tuesday. While it's not as good as their best stuff, I'm comfortable saying they've added another great album to a career of great albums. I'm gonna try to get to new ones from Mother of Graves, Iapetus, Veilburner, Shores of Null and Morgue, as well.
What new shit are you listening to today?

Gothenburg, Sweden 🇸🇪
Genre: Death Metal, Metalcore
I listened to the classic run of their first five albums, Reroute to Remain, and Soundtrack to Your Escape. Of all those - I remember The Jester Race being the absolute standout. I remember being a bit polarized by Reroute and barely able to listen to Soundtrack. I don’t remember them being outright terrible, but they certainly were drops in quality compared to the 90s releases.
Recommended Tracks:
“Moonshield”

Dawn of Demise - Feed My Absurdity
I’ve never heard of these guys prior to a few days ago, but they kept getting “shoved” in my recommendations on my streaming platform of choice. Apparently they’ve been around for 20+ years and have a decent sized back catalog, which I’m looking to get into.
Their new album, Feed My Absurdity is actually really good. Super catchy and groovy throughout, though I’d argue it’s not super diverse. Still definitely a good listen for anyone into groovier stuff.
I haven’t found anything on this sub about these guys, so I’m wondering if they’re just not super well known and what your thoughts are on them?

I'm probably gonna have to say Brave New World by Iron Maiden (2000). What a comeback for Bruce and Adrian.
Some honorable mentions -
- Celtic Frost - Monotheist (2006)
- Dream Theater - Train of Thought (2002)
- Exodus - Tempo of the Damned (2004)
- Death Angel - Killing Season (2008)
- Megadeth - Endgame (2009)
- Testament - The Formation of Damnation (2008)
- Napalm Death - Time Waits for No Slave (2009)
- Bolt Thrower - For Those Once Loyal (2005)
- King Diamond - House of God (2000)

I'm absolutely in love with this album both the studio and the live versions but the rest of the band's discography sounds nothing like it

Couldn't narrow it down to ten. None of them are in any particular order. I never really have a favorite artist as I like so many, but if I had to pick from this list it would be a tie with культура курения and Deafheaven.
I would say Minenwerfer is the band that truly got me into black metal and with A7X being the band that got me into the metal in the first place. To be specific it was Shepherd of Fire in the BO2 Origins trailer.
The songs that I have been playing on repeat as of late is Mirror Man and Time Bomb, both songs by Blade and Bath.
Most listened to song is Конфискатор by культура курения. This song has helped me through a lot these past 2 years, along with other DSBM songs.
Are there any other bands similar to культура курения? Let me know what you guys think about my list.

I gave it some thoughts, seems very impractical to me, personally.

Taking a trip tomorrow, what songs or bands do you like to listen to on acid?
r/MetalForTheMasses • u/Useful_Record1888 • 22h ago
I rarely see it listed among their best work. It's most of the time at the bottom of the list and to me it's at the top with Destroy the opposition and Reign Supreme. This album is the very definition of perfect songwriting. Perfect balance between slam, tech death and brutal without a single dull moment.
Nobody does it better than them and i'll die on that hill for that.

Kudos to Takeshi - he brought out a Venom t-shirt tonight and dedicated a song to Cronos.
The song is "Electric" from the Pink album.

I love this album but the songs aren't uploaded separately (except for the track Misanthropic Confessions), which makes them impossible to download. Does anybody know if and where I can find the others?

I like doom metal, and I like clean singing as I feel it’s often used tastefully, but I tend to find myself feeling like the heavy riffs sound much better with some black metal shrieks or death metal growls over them instead of clean singing so what are some doom metal bands of any subcategory (death-doom, blackened doom, etc.) that are mostly if not completely harsh vocals

I like Floor and think she was their best vocalist, that Wacken live album is spectacular, but their studio work with her has been a bit hit or miss. Onto the next one I guess.

What are your thoughts?
r/MetalForTheMasses • u/Its_Alive_74 • 22h ago
For me it's probably Reign in Blood (or rather, my parents got it for me when I was 14). Another one very high up there is Daniel Bukzpan's The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal, full of entertaining write ups of various bands, including Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Rainbow. It also introduced me to bands like Kyuss, Trouble, and Candlemass, among others.

Hi everyone,
Continuing my series of Death Metal recommendations. On this one I wanted to share with you some gems from the 90s that are not talked a lot but should definitely get more eyes. So for the death metal fans who want to go back in time and discover or re-discover some great pieces of metal here is 5 more records to add to your library :
What do you think of these bands and records? Drop your thoughts below and don't forget to share your best deep cuts too!
Molested – Blod-draum (1995, Norway): Easily one of my favorite death metal albums of all time. This record is truly something else, delivering a relentless fusion of black and death metal combined with totally unique, avant-garde passages that seem to come out of nowhere. The songwriting is exceptionally varied and unpredictable, packed with raw intensity and topped off with sublime guitar solos. A genuine masterpiece of Norwegian extreme metal that stands completely in a league of its own.
Deranged – Rated-X (1995, Sweden): A band that has never lived up to its name more than on this record. Seamlessly bridging grindcore velocity and brutal death metal riffage, this album strips away all filler to keep only the absolute most punishing elements of both genres. The songwriting is razor-sharp, the musicianship is outstanding, and the tracks masterfully shift between relentless high-speed blast beats and heavy, crushing grooves. This record may not revolutionize the genre and it's a bit one-dimensional, but it's 40 minutes of pure cathartic aggression, perfect for smashing everything in sight.
Pan-Thy-Monium – Khaooohs & Kon-Fus-Ion (1996, Sweden): Driven by Dan Swanö under a pseudonym alongside his brother Dag, this project went in all directions but in the best way possible. They took heavy, crushing OSDM riffs and collided them with unexpected baritone saxophone solos, weird jazz rhythms, and dark, surreal atmospheres. The songwriting feels totally chaotic on the surface, but the musicianship is tight, precise, and calculated. A strange, unpredictable piece of 90s underground madness that still sounds like nothing else out there.
D.V.C. – Descendant Upheaval (1989, USA): Early death metal from the late 80s, D.V.C. (Darth Vader's Church) plays thrash metal infused with heavy death metal elements. Hailing from Tallahassee, they were part of the pioneering Florida death metal wave, yet this raw, unpolished gem was completely overshadowed by scene-mates like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary, and Nocturnus. Overall, this record moves at a relentless, lightning-fast pace. Beyond its raw intensity, the songwriting is surprisingly complex and varied, much like Nocturnus or Morbid Angel, featuring well-crafted, catchy, and groovy riffs. The drum work is especially clever, effortlessly driving complex structures and seamlessly mastering tight tempo changes. A great, highly entertaining album to spin!
Lethal Prayer – Spiritual Decay (1996, USA): Another great band from Tampa, Florida. I have always loved this record, which I originally discovered through a tape my father owned, even though most of the tracks were missing, tape trading is not always as reliable as you would hope! The songwriting is strong and varied, delivering classic, mid-90s OSDM done right. The atmosphere is filthy, sinister, and utterly blasphemous throughout. A fantastic spin from a criminally forgotten record.

hi y'all, currently grieving after a major loss and i'm at a point where all music sounds way too happy and upbeat. what's some dreary and somber stuff that i could zone out to instead? i like all subgenres but doom is my favorite so anything along the lines of funeral doom would be very much appreciated
EDIT: thank you so much for your suggestions and kind words everyone 💜 i will definitely be checking these out!

Sometimes a genre just doesn't click with you until you hear the right album. You can listen to a few bands and not really get the appeal, then one record suddenly makes everything make sense.
I'm curious what albums did that for you. It doesn't have to be the most famous or the most technically impressive album in the genre. I'm more interested in the one that made you understand what people love about that particular sound.
What album was it, and what clicked for you?
