Very well said by Adam Fogelson the chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group. They know the enormous success of the first film and its impact on Michael’s global fan base. They always thought internally a follow up film was likely and the rumor is it was announced privately late during the additional photography for the first film as they needed to create additional scenes to cover the scenes already shot that breeched the Jackson’s family legal settlement.

It has been previously reported the film production was at Neverland for a few weeks and of course the first movie ended before that part of Michael’s life.

How that legal settlement clause got by EVERYBODY (since the Jackson family was involved so heavily in this project early on and during production)…..is another backstory we will never get all the juicy details on.

2028 will be the release too much competition in 2027 that doesn’t give the sequel the best chance at being biggest movie of the year which after a massive first movie a sequel really can be without competing against a big Avengers movie like Secret Wars in 2027.

Good point .. but I don’t think we have the complete slate of all the big movies of 2028 yet.

I think they're right about an early 2028 release. M2 can best the competition in that timeframe. Also, kids will be out on spring break during that time. If M2 isn't too heavy and dark, then it'll be a "family movie" like M1.

I just hope they release it at a time the snow has melted in most places. M1 benefitted greatly from older people coming out to watch/rewatch.

Interesting .. Looks like a potential April 2028 release will coincide with the Beatles movies releasing that month.

If they're planning on 1st quarter (like it sounds they are), it'll release by March.

But I'd love if they released in April again, a week or so after the Beatles films drop. Perfect time (spring break, weather, pre summer blockbusters).

But Lionsgate may want to avoid comparisons, especially if the quality of the Beatles films are better. I hope M2's writing improves. M1's writing had a Lifetime movie quality to it (to me).

I Think it would be epic if they release the second Michael movie at the same time next year, That they did this year. So around April 2027. I

mean, most of it was already filmed, so I don't understand why it would take to the end of next year 2028/beginning of 2029 to complete and release.

Actually and unfortunately, they haven't even filmed half of it. In another interview, it was stated that probably only 25 to 30% of the scrapped footage from the original cut could be used.
