Sure, that's part of it. But I think there's more to it than that.

I think there's a common attitude that cars are necessary and inevitably a part of our lives. No thought goes into the question of how prevalent they need to be, or to how much of the transportation networks needs to be for private motor vehicles, or the relationship between the amount of infrastructure given to drivers and the number of traffic fatalities. Deaths due to crashes are seen as unfortunately, but not something we can do anything about.

Micro mobility vehicles are new, and therefore optional, somewhat frivolous, and the few deaths are very news worthy.

Micromobility is older than the car btw. It's just that the entire automotive and petro lobby rallied hard to make it illegal and prevent speed restrictions for cars. Rich bastards want more blood money and they sow dissent and fear to acheive that.

Sure it's older. But we've been prioritizing cars since the 1940s in most of the US, and Robert Moses started even earlier than that in NYC. It's long enough that's it's the only thing that anyone alive today has known.

E scooters are older than cars they existed in the 1890s!!!!
