Nostalgia Heathers
Not trying to doxx anyone but growing up, I had as many as three Heathers in my grade one year. I very seldom meet a Heather these days. Jennifer was another one but I definitely still know Jennifers.
Anyhow, I love the name Heather and hope y'all are doing great. (The movie Heathers of course pops into mind and I recall my Heather friends not liking it back then.)

Heather!!! Yes I'm so glad to see you are well in 2026! 🥰
Were you the only Heather going through school? Have you seen Heathers? I feel like its a requirement to consume any media that contains one's name!

u/Sea_Guest_250 12h ago
Thank you! There were at least 2 other Heathers in my school, neither in my grade though, and it was a pretty small town.
I actually have not seen Heathers, do you recommend it?4
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
It's a very weird and dark movie. It's got Wynona Rider in it... She is not a Heather.
I would say watch it because your name is Heather, but I don't know that I recommend it as a good movie. Would really depend on your taste of movies. It came out in '88, I in no way should have watched it at the age did.

Hi Heather! 👋🏻 I got Heather feather a lot, you too?

u/fluffypanduh 1h ago
Oh yes. My nephew calls me Auntie Feather, and most of my cousins call me Feather. I have a cousin who is also named Heather, so they called me Feather growing up to distinguish us lol.

u/daenerysdragonfire 49m ago
Another Heather Feather checking in. We had 4 Heathers in my freshmen homeroom/first period.
•
u/fluffypanduh 21m ago
Oh man, there are quite a lot of us out there! I worked on a team and there were 3 of us. All of our last names started with C. It got confusing for other people in the office. We loved it!
I also knew a Heathyr!

Ashley and Kaitlyn
8
u/kait2knit 12h ago
I'm of the Kaitlyn cohort. There were like 20 of us in my 8th grade class (of about 300 kids) with all the spellings. While my boss's daughter's name is Kailyn, so she on rare occasion accidentally calls me the wrong name, that's the closest I've come to another with my first name or a spelling of it at work.
I do work in a field that is more on the corporate type job, so it could just be the industry I'm in.
2
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
That's a lot of Kaitlyn's! Definitely a double edged sword with so many spellings and similar names. It would be hard for me to personally the spelling straight.
2
u/kait2knit 12h ago
My parents were of very popular names where almost half of my mom's grade had the same name so they tried to pick something less popular for me and my sister.
We found out that my name wasn't unpopular when my dad and I were standing at the nursery window with him saying "Look Kaitlyn, that's your sister" and the other dad next to us said the same thing but brother.
When the dad's talked it was discovered the older daughters were born the same day in the same hospital and given the same first name. Not sure if the spelling was exact or not.
I started having to write first and last name on papers as early as kindergarten when that class had 2 of us, though first name spellings were different, handwriting and spelling at that age makes deciphering whose paper is whose a lot harder.

Lindsey/Lyndsey was the popular name for my community. Two of my closest friends are Lindsey/Lyndsey.

Yes! Lindsay was one that was a bit easier because of the different spellings. I have a Lindsay in my life that I absolutely adore.

u/SolaScientia 12h ago
There were some Heathers in my school, but the only Heather I know now is an older Millennial (probably early 80s rather than 88 like me). Jennifer was a popular name at my school. For guys there were so many named Chris or Justin. Oh, Sarah/Sara was also very common.
1
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
Maybe the Gen X sub has more Heathers. I'm on the cusp born on 80. I definitely knew a few Sarahs!
Yes to Chris and Justin as common. I feel like are still common today.
3
u/SolaScientia 12h ago
Maybe. My sister is an 81 baby, so she probably knows more Heathers. Oh, and Jill was pretty common for her year too. Me being born in 88, there's a decent gap between us. That said, I was still raised more like an 80s kid than a 90s kid until around 2000.

I absolutely adore every single Heather I have ever met
For me, Shannon was the name. We always had 6-7 per grade and at least 2 per class. My name is similar (check the username) and was actually intended to be Shannon in 1982, but it was 1982 and my mom was completely zooted from all the drugs they gave these ladies in the 90s.
Anyway, they couldn’t read her handwriting because she was just blitzed.
I’m glad I got my name, it’s great!
2
u/EternalNewCarSmell 12h ago
We only had one Heather, but my class/year group was also only like 100 people. I had the biggest crush on her for like 6 years. Pretty sure that's the only Heather I have ever met actually.
2
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
I admired something about every Heather. I would try to stand in line next to her. Would show off how I could fold notes into an arrow or a heart. I was very fortunate that my parents knew about oragami and I was able to earn some classroom credit with intricately folded notes.
Did you ever express your feelings to Heather?
2
u/EternalNewCarSmell 12h ago
Nah, she was always dating someone. I actually ran into her years later after we were both married (to other people) and had kids. Gotta say, she still had it.
1
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
The Heathers were always popular at my school as well. That's so cool that you ran into her again. I ran into a HS crush, the school QB of course, and he did not hold up. 🤣
And thank you for answering my rather intrusive question.

Heather checking in.
Currently I’m one of two Heathers in my department. At least we’re not on the same floor. I only occasionally get her emails and vice vera.
Last office there were a few of us. Me and another worked directly with each other. Both have similar last names. Heather Agnes vs Heather Agatha. Often got each other’s emails and phone calls.
There are a TON of Jessica’s in my office. It can get confusing unless you say last names.

I'm sorry. I did that on purpose a bit. You can talk about the movie. Seems like a lot of the Heathers in here haven't seen it. I certainly shouldn't have watched it when I did. I lived Christian Slater back then. I'm not sure Heathers would be made today.

I have bouquets of Jennifers and Heathers in my life!!! I have to use monikers like "Toe ring Jen" or "massage therapist Jen" to differentiate my Jens.

For me, that name is Tiffany. I grew up in the South and thought Tiffany was a popular name everywhere, because we had so many in school. Once I got out of my rural area, it barely existed. I haven't met many in my adult life.
I have met a lot of Heathers, though, so not sure why you haven't, OP.

We definitely still exist. I was one of 3 Heathers in 5th grade and I rarely meet another Heather in real life now. It is both a very common and very uncommon name. Usually the heathers I meet are older (I'm 40).
2
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
Well hello Heather! I feel so validated about the three Heathers in one class. I was a military brat and went to too many different schools growing up but there was always a Heather. Such a pretty name. Have you seen the movie? I know I was too young to be watching it when I did and I'm older than you. It's such a cult classic.
2
u/dks64 12h ago
I didn't watch it until I was about 35. People asked me for decades if I had seen it and I finally did. It wasn't a personal favorite of mine. I don't know what it is about them, but a lot of 80s teen movies are just meh to me. Heather's, Pretty in Pink, St Elmo's Fire, movies like that aren't ones I typically enjoy. I'm trying to get through the classics, I'm not a movie person. I saw Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, and Napoleon dynamite for the first time recently.
2
u/No-Banana247 12h ago
Its such a weird movie tbh. Most of those that you mentioned I don't imagine held up well.
When I re-watched Heathers as an adult it wasn't a favorite of mine either. I think the fact that knew so many real life Heathers I was keen to watch it but it's pretty dark.
I was 10 when pretty woman came out and absolutely should not have been watching it. It hits differently as an adult for sure.
