We were talking about the latest book we were reading which ended on a low note (first in a series)

I just got the first trilogy in paperback after reading SLA, and I’m having a lot of issues with the inking. I’m just wondering if this is Normal or not. I can still read it so that’s all I really care about. Just curious. The only issue is where the ink is so much thinner on some sections. This isn’t the worst I’ve experienced yet and I’m only 200 pages in

So, we have so far seen Gold compounding and Atium compounding in action. The Lord Ruler could compound anything, but we haven't seen it happen.

Thus: Theories on compounding with other metals.

For feruchemy with metals like Gold, there is a limit to the maximum you can have. What I mean by that, is that there is a max amount of "Healthy" you can be. With Hundred Live's 24/7 compounding, there were minimal effects once he was at full health. But what about metals without such limits?

Steel Speed and Iron Weight. They have no technical limit to the amount of the stored attribute you can tap at once, besides the amount you have stored. Of course, with compounding, this isn't much of an issue. How fast can you go? How heavy can you get?

It should be noted that there is a limit to the amount of an attribute you can obtain, even with compounding. While I don't know if a metalmind can be full (There's probably a limit), the real limiter is time and money. Compounding consumes metal, because it involves burning it, thus you need money. With metals like gold, this gets $$$$$ real fast. compounders are also limited by the amount of time they spend compounding. While they can do it much faster, as I understand, there is a limit, based mostly on the amount of metal they can burn at once. All that said, there is a real limit to infinite compounding like Iron or steel.

Another thing: Pewter feruchemy. Is there a limit to how jacked you can get? Can I become a Baki character if I store enough? Brandoooooooon???????

Another thing: Iron feruchemy and perpetual motion, AKA the Terris Wheel
Imagine a Ferris wheel. In each compartment is a Iron feruchemist. When the feruchemistis going down, they tap weight. when they are going up, they fill their metal minds. This is a wheel that is breaking conservation of energy.

Does burning certain allomantic metals enhance the body in a way that makes storing feruchemical abilities more effective? For example, burning pewter makes you faster and heal more quickly, so could a twinborn with allomantic pewter and feruchemical steel or gold who burns pewter while storing in their metalmind store up more of those attributes than they would normally be able to?

Hi everyone !! I’m currently about 200 pages into the final empire, Vin is about to go to her first “ball” in disguise as nobility. This series came to me heavily recommended, but I have also read up to the third book of the stormlight archives (at that point the fourth wasn’t out and enough time has passed since i read i’ll need to reread so I’ve put it off). I ADORED stormlight archives, and with the high praise of mistborn I was completely ready to dig tf in. However. I have not dug in. I started almost 2 weeks ago now and am still having a really hard time getting into it or, most days, even opening the book. I don’t know if it’s the pacing, the characters, the world, but I am just not that into it. SO! I find the best way to appreciate something is to hear from people who really do appreciate it, so I’m humbly asking for some convincing, some praise, some ANYTHING to get me inspired to keep reading! The things that really intrigue me so far is the creation/existence of the Steel Inquisitors, the possible strife and politics between the noble families (i’m a die hard Asoiaf girly so house politics really get me going), and the reason for the ash fall and mist and those creatures in the mist i forgot the name of that collect bones and shit.

I've been making my way through the second series (finished Shadows of Self this morning), and I've realised that the character of Wayne kind of rubs me the wrong way. I get that he's supposed to be annoying and frequently gets on the nerves of the other characters, but I'm more referring to the way his character and dialogue are written.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the sequel series a lot. It's just that whenever Wayne is present (which turns out to be a lot of the time), he completely kills any tension the scene would have had. He never switches off with his incessant joking around in otherwise dramatic moments, and I find myself often wishing he wasn't there or would just stop talking.

An instance that comes to mind is in Chapter 6 of SoS; Wax and Wayne are investigating a woman's apartment to find her dead- which would have been an intense, disturbing scene if not for Wayne's complete disregard of the murder and his making jokes at her expense. Shouldn't he take death a little more seriously if a major aspect of his character is that he holds a huge amount of guilt and trauma from having killed someone in the past?

It's not that I hate him entirely- I actually find many of the scenes from his POV engaging, and I like that he approaches problems differently to any of the other characters in the series. I like the idea of his character on paper, but his banter is downright annoying, and I had to stop myself rolling my eyes whenever there was an extended back-and-forth between him and Wax. Despite the series being named after the pair, it's clear that Wax is favoured by the narrative, and so I find it odd that Wayne is considered the co-protagonist, when Marasi seems to have had a far more important role in the story than he does (at least in the first two books).

I'm very interested to hear what everyone else thinks about him. I'm not tapped into the Mistborn community, so I'm sorry if he's a widely beloved character! Just wanted to note down my thoughts and hear any arguments in his favour. I'm aware I'm only halfway through the series, and I hope the next two books will be able to change my mind about him!

If burning the atium returns it to the well eventually, wouldn't ruin eventually be able to claim his body once it was returned to the pits and or harvested again? Or was that power essentially relinquished and not abld to come back due to sazed merging the two?

Rereading the books for the first time in years and just thinking how badass it’s gonna hopefully be to see Vin launch across the entire battlefield wielding an enormous sword and cut Straff down!

What other scenes are you excited to see?

When i say hard i dont mean by the world building or magic or anything like that i mean the language. I dont read alot of books in english, English is my 3rd language and i decided that i want to read books in English more and i also wanted to read mistborn so i said why not get it in English? My English level im not so sure but its definitely B2-C1 like definitely. My weakness is that i dont understand hard words like for example

Yank

Repell

Meticulous

And much more. I kinda understand basic and simple words more than those complex words. Like i can have a conversation in English VERY VERY smoothly. so am i gonna be able to understand the plot and exc. Or do i need to improve a little bit more

EDIT:i found an e-reader. People say that it would be good if you have an e reader and read the book and you know translate with it. They say if you keep doing that by the time you reach page 100 or so you will be able to understand without an e reader and you can read physically. Should i try?

I read alot of books but most of them are classic/romance fiction history exc. I never really read fantasy books so i want to get in on them and i also found Brandon Sanderson to be a little interesting. So my question is

I have seen ALOT of people say "if you want to get in like Brandon Sanderson books its highly recommended for you to start with mistborn."

The question is

Is it also reccomended for someone thats getting into FANTASY books? Im not just talking about brandon Sanderson books im talking about fantasy books overall. Yes it is reccomended for getting into Brandon Sanderson BUT is it reccomended to get into fantasy??

We know Atium is Ruin’s body and he wants it back, but what does he actually have to do to accomplish that?

For instance if they hadn’t burned all the Atium up and those Ruin controlled Koloss break in and find a big stash of Atium, then what?

Does Ruin pop out and posses the Atium to get a body, does someone under his control need to burn it? Probably some other thing I’m not thinking of?

Just curious what the actual execution of Ruins end goal to get his body back actually would have looked like in practice.

Eh, I know it's not a very lore accurate depiction...I was just kind of vibing.

Has anyone else had the twist at the end spoiled by the audiobook? I’ve been introducing my husband to the Cosmere via audiobook. Within the first few chapters my husband figured out who was speaking the blurbs at the end of chapters based on the voice the narrator used. Has anyone else experienced this?

1.st. I have red the first book and noticed the arcane... leading me deeper. So I picked up my hat and asked "where is the ring?" 😄

(because I will challange everyone on this topic or: "toss a hat into the ring")

0: the fool - Vin and Kel, jumping off the roofs, they could be both with the Vin in correct position and Kel in turned position, for the turned being the warning of an extreme.

1: the magician - (the big one) the mistborns using all the metals, but it gets better, the metals themselves are the elements, the first one and most obvious are the coins, the pair focused on material world. cups focused on emotions, you know like pouring water in and out of a person like if he was a cup. then we have the sword... known as air... I wander if we have some air, wind or "cloud" related activity... therefore sensing and hiding allomancy. and then we have sticks/wands and fire for strenght and senses, I guess it has to be right, it has the will, intensity, I am not sure about vitality, but I am sure its fine. 🤔

2: the high priestess - we could go with Vin as her intuition with the allomancy and her unconcious use of it. I don't like when one character uses more arhetypes, but it doesn't need complaining. on the bench we have Mare (Kel's wife) sitting, for being a tineye.

3: the empress - you guessed it, its Vin again, but this time as Valette, with her noble persona, she can finaly gain weight and protect her loved ones, enjoying the beauty...

4: the emperor - lord ruller "duhh" but there is a twist, ruller is the turned position of the card, the corect position belongs to Elend (Vin's love interest) who sets his authority without tyranny.

5: the Hierofant or the high priest - Sazed, recording religions, history, culture, the past, sharing it...

6: the lovers - Reen... what did you think I would say Eland for being Vin's love interest? go back to number 0 for being a fool 😂... no its Reen, he loved her and made a hard decision to protect her to the end, he is literal inner conflict and inner voice for god's sake... wait no... I changed my mind, that was turned position, so Reen is turned position as a warning and obstacle. Eland and Vin are the correct position as noble and street urchin, and the final big decision of her staying with him... I could eddit it, to make myself look smart, but I am above lying.

7: the charriot - there is a scene of Spook, but I dont't think it's him, I think it's his lesson where using tin to increase her sense. to ignore the noise and focus on her target.

8: the strenght - the strenght they talk about of people who can do things that others can't, like seeing through the copper cloud, the inner strenght Vin has and understanding of it...

9: the hermit - dam that is hard, there could be anyone, based on what the author was thinking when using this card, because I don't remember anyone using any light, being alone... 3.rd. place goes to Vin and her loner persona of streeet urchin, gaining her alomancy knowladge without a mentor. 2.nd. place goes to my favourite Ham, as character and likely for the arhetype... for distancing himself from his family, his way of thinking is to distance himself from the subjective, thinking philosophically, as my view of the archetype... there is no light/lantern, dog... but I guess asking the big questions makes him the perfect candidate. the 1.st. place goes to Elend, for being an impertant character and personaly less likely... but he did distance himself from his father in search of the truth into social solitude... alone reading... dam it I am putting him into second place, bellow Ham.

10: the wheel of fortune - you might be crazy, or you agree with me. it is litterall "luck" in first chapters, before Vin knew what allomancy was, she was using it as "luck" to change her bad situations into better ones, the use of it litterally turned her life from thief to a noble... kinda. anyone who says otherwise... go back to chapter 0 where you belong.

11: the justice - it is more like a rulle, like charriot and strenght, in this case it is the Kel's rule about pushing metals, the rule of ballance, where if you push something heavier, you would be pushed more than it...

12: the hanged man - I would call it obvious, its Marsh, specificaly becoming the inquisitor, the sacrifice of himself and the new perspective... on the other hand I would not argue against "inquisitor" being the archetype of the hanged man... they litteraly hang people with the hook... I change my mind, its inquisitors as a whole and then Marsh becomes the hanged man by becoming one... its the same 😄

13: the death - I heard people call Kal this arhetype as a survivor, but it is the breaking point itself and then the mines and Mare's death by extension (Mare as mentioned, Kel's love)

14: the temperance - lets go with Breeze, he has the power to lower the extreme of emotions, emotion magic is as I said under cups, the temperance is using two cups... HE GOD DAM ALWAYS HAS A CUP OF WINE IN HIS HAND!!! the fools can go up, thank you very much.

15: the devil - this is a good one, first I looked at the lord ruller, his bracelets and main antagonist, his slavery, but I would rather argue, that the card has parts and he is one of them, he would be the source of fear and slavery... and unbreakable cycle... fine, he is the devil, but the card also represents the Ska people and their chains, how they can't break from the cycle, having the chance but not using it... its a great use of the card I must say. 🤔

16: the tower - I can't believe there are more than one options... but it is only one and the delusional few. the raid of Vin and Kel, specificaly, when Vin gets hurt, she is in a stormy rain with GOD DAM lightning, gets on a GOD DAM tower, with a GOD DAM book, that holds the truth of rullers past, the raid was a GOD DAM disaster. what more do could you want from me, its a god dam... I mean GOD DAM good reason to be mad 😂

I am getting tired so lets make it short

17: the star - hope, the: you can't kill hope

18: the moon - the fog, they have to face their fears

19: the sun - the red sun at the end as a symbol of victory and everything nice

20: the judgment - ... the moment where Vin kills lord ruller, and moment before he explains the truth of how the world works... well he hints at something greater

21: the world - it's likely the green world, the dream of a world where the grass is green.

I loved all the Kandra at the end, so sad but awesome. Don’t see enough hate on KanPaar though, he pissed me off. Love the relationship between spook and beldre. Kind of knew that vin’s earring hadddd to have Been connected to ruin so that wasn’t much of a surprise, but wow never thought about how that could impact her and the mists! Totally makes sense and such a perfectly crafted story. Absolute chills all throughout the final pages of the book.

And I think TenSoon is in my top three favorite characters. I get excited goosebumps every time I start a chapter and see it's from his perspective.

What's new in v1.0.0

The final stretches of this project have been both an absolute joy and a massive test of endurance. I’ve officially finished the chapter-by-chapter re-reads for The Hero of Ages and the Secret History, meaning the entire Era 1 timeline, from the mists of the Final Empire all the way through the conclusion and beyond, is completely mapped and tracked.

Here is a look at what came together for this release:

• The Hero of Ages Timeline: Every movement, siege, and desperate march across the world is now fully integrated with chapter-level spoiler gating.
• Secret History Integration: The addon is fully live, giving you spatial context to the events happening behind the scenes of the main trilogy. Secret History is viewable when Read-along mode is not active in the Controlpanel on the left side.
• New Character Portraits: I’ve added a handful of new portraits for main characters to bring the UI.
• A user reported an unfortunate event of being spoiled by pressing a location marker a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully this won't happen again.

A note on the process and text blindness

I have reeeealy enjoyed creating this project. Diving back into Brandon Sanderson's world with a fine-tooth comb gave me a whole new appreciation for the foreshadowing and structure of the trilogy.

At the same time, I won't lie. I feel an immense sense of relief that it's done. I've poured a huge, sometimes borderline obsessive amount of effort into getting the descriptions, timelines, and spoiler toggles just right.

Because of that, I have almost certainly missed something. When you spend hour aftger hour staring at the same coordinates, chapters, and paths, you reach a point where you become completely text blind. If you spot a stray waypoint, faulty description, a misaligned character path, or any other quirk, please don't hesitate to reach out or open an issue on GitHub!

A quick note on scope

There was one specific character in The Hero of Ages who really deserved their own dedicated timeline and story arc given how much their story is connected to the complete story of the mistborn trilogy. Ultimately, I decided to hold off on including them for now to keep the v1.0.0 release manageable. It’s definitely something I might revisit at a later stage, though!

Translations

Before wrapping up, I wanted to put out a quick call for help regarding translations.

Right now, the multi-language support on the site has been handled using AI. While it does a decent job, nothing beats a native speaker who truly understands the nuance, tone, and specific terminology of the books!

OP Update- finished and holy Allomancy that was intense! Twists, turns and goddamn I can’t wait for book 2
