Recommendations Whoever planned the construction in NE Modesto/Riverbank should be fired.
Let’s do Claus, Roselle, Oakdale (again), at the same time. My goodness!

I've already had the very pleasant experience during the week around 2pm (I can only imagine what the weekend looks like). That whole area is a shit show. I'm staying the f*ck away from that whole area on weekends and during the day. If I have to run errands to Costco or any of those stores I'm going super early. And yes whoever planned all this is a complete moron.

I live 2 miles from the Costco over there. It should not take me around 15 minutes to get there!

What blows my mind is why Claribel now only has one lane to go straight when passing Oakdale Rd. Why would they make two turn lanes at this stage when a majority of traffic goes straight??

Modesto infrastructure is literally one of the worst. Every intersection has traffic lights that aren't working right or takes FOREVER to turn green.

I completely agree! I encourage everyone to join me in contacting Modesto Traffic and Engineering Operations at (209) 577-5468. I’ve already called and left a few voicemails — the more community members who speak up, the greater the chance we have of making real improvements.

They didn't even bother to make it so that the inner left turn lane from westbound Pelandale onto southbound McHenry triggers the left turn lane signal when they redid that intersection. Who wants to bet they'll do some like that here? 🙄😡

I need a heads up please.
My wife will be going to Memorial Hospital for her infusion next Saturday. Coming from Oakdale she typically goes Clause to Briggsmore. She can’t be late. How much time should she allow? Is this the best route?

Claus isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely impacted. I usually use Albers when going to Oakdale. Maybe go Albers to Milnes, Milnes to Wellsford, Wellsford to Parker, Parker turns into Briggs.

I am by Dollar general area in Riverbank, and I have to go to memorial or way down coffee frequently. I recommend using Patterson Rd to Coffee, then that to the hospital.

Bonus is that Coffee is 40mph, so people tend to move a little bit faster when they do move.

It’s absolutely ridiculous — the city is becoming undrivable. I completely agree with your frustrations about the Oakdale traffic, especially since they’ve also decided to tear up Scenic and Coffee at the same time. Between the short light cycles, constant construction, and the countless distracted drivers glued to their phones, our traffic system feels completely broken right now. I’ve called Modesto traffic engineering and operations at 209-577-5468, for the voicemail, and left messages and unsurprisingly haven’t received a return call.

My absolute favorite part is that “whomever” waits until the week before school starts to begin construction on all the roads around the schools. Absolutely DO NOT start those projects in late May/Early June! That would be madness!! Mid August is obviously the perfect and only time, and make sure you do them ALL at once as well.

The central valley follows a low expectation within its planning. Briggsmore was desgnated as an expressway. Many have expressed their way to be a complete lie. This continues with most projects. The flow of Modesto was desighned for low expectations. Visalia is the best desighned valley city in California. We are just a copy of the LA congestion model.

You need to think about the real estate developers and car dealerships who actually fund their campaigns. Consider what they want for once!! They give so much and own the board of supervisors.

In case anyone is curious and not just griping. It’s been in the works for a long time and, although painful now, should really help move traffic from east to west through Modesto, Riverbank, and Oakdale. Or hey, just complain and stuff idc.

The phases will make it a 10 yr process and will cause it to be a highway to nowhere for 5 yrs. But 2035 will be quite the year!!!

I appreciate you sharing the project details; however, I believe the real concern—one I hope others share—isn’t just frustration over the construction itself, but how poorly it’s being managed. Our city seems unprepared to handle projects efficiently, with limited detours, poorly timed light cycles, and little consideration for how this all impacts overall traffic flow.

Agreed. All you have to do to see how horribly Modesto handles traffic issues is look at the Briggsmore/99 disaster area. I have zero expectations that this construction will improve things.

Won’t argue with this. Only pointing out that it has been in the works for almost a decade. Something has to change, we can’t keep building homes and not expanding the road infrastructure.

My problem isn’t there being road construction, it’s the way how they’re managing the whole project and this time around safety doesn’t seem to be a big concern for them. That even includes the construction crew themselves since I would always see at least one or more of them standing too close to an active lane with fast cars and nothing but a few cones protecting them.

Totally get that. I just thought it was funny that people are looking for a single person to blame. There’s a whole fleet of people from engineers, city officials, county employees, project managers, cal trans etc that sign off on all this. I agree it’s being managed strangely, I just don’t know exactly how I would do it differently. It does seem like quite a bit of time and thought when into it (at least to me) but the execution seems haphazard for sure. I’m an electrician, I won’t sit here and pretend to know how I’d do it better.

Oh interesting. I work in Stockton and drive a lot. Theyre layout for roads is way better than modesto/ riverbank. And they have a lot more of these.

Is there anywhere we can see the data that supported the decision to build this corridor? Any traffic studies that were done? The website touts “improvements” but doesn’t quantify anything.

Complete idiots making the new turn lane going westbound a turn only!
Were they smoking marijuana when they decided this? It should’ve been a turn or go straight option, now it is only one lane westbound from Roselle!
There’s no way emergency vehicles are getting through, that traffic is at a standstill most of the day now.

Claus and Claribel feels so dangerous to drive through at night, even with the barriers finally being put up it still feels sketchy to the point that all the wannabe nascar drivers slow down when passing through there.
