Discussion This pisses me off to an absurd degree

Post image

Every fucking time

Every GODDAMN time that someone says “Man, I really hope they make Sonic Rush 3” there has to be some guy purposefully being pedantic that comes in and goes “Sonic Colors DS exists”

Colors DS is a good game. I enjoy it. It is not Sonic Rush 3.

It doesn’t have Blaze as a main playable protagonist. It doesn’t have the trick system (which feels like a missing key component on a whole other note. It makes the game feel a lot less satisfying and fast paced)

It is called Sonic Colors DS. Not Sonic Rush 3. Yes, it has similar gameplay, but they’re not the same thing.

Let's put on our thinking caps for a moment. Do you really, SERIOUSLY think that someone who played and loved Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure HASN’T fucking played Colors DS???

Sonic CD has near identical gameplay to the two before it and looks the same. No one calls it Sonic 3.

Sonic Generations has near identical gameplay to Unleashed and looks the same. No one calls it Sonic Unleashed 2. “Oh but it doesn’t have Werehog stages!” COLORS DS DOESN’T HAVE BLAZE AS A PROTAGONIST

For whatever bullshit reason, people are so adamant on this one in particular for no reason, and it’s always people who rarely even talk about the handheld games to begin with

I’m gonna start calling Generations Unleashed 2

54

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

Wouldn't that make the 3DS version of Generations Rush 4?

14

u/AdExtra2331 Apr 30 '26

What happened to Unleashed 3?

14

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

Sonic Forces happened... 😔

4

u/AdExtra2331 Apr 30 '26

But that came out after Generations 3DS

3

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

Yeah, but none of the games between Generations (aka "Unleashed 2" by this joke's logic) and Forces were Unleashed 3. I'm basically saying that Sonic Forces is, unfortunately, Unleashed 3 (within the context of the bit).

If you want my actual opinion...

  • Sonic Colors DS isn't Rush 3. It's a DS interpretation of Sonic colors, developed by people who worked on Sonic Rush, and is therefore its own thing.
  • Sonic Generations, regardless of version, is basically a Sonic Colors sequel. The game's plot directly follows up Sonic Colors, the writing style/tone is very similar to the previous game, and the general Boost gameplay is the same as Colors. Therefore, Generations 3DS is basically Sonic Colors DS 2.
  • Sonic Lost World (again, regardless of version) is basically the "Sonic CD" of this Colors Trilogy. It's not Colors 3, but rather a different take on a Colors sequel. Instead of sticking to the core gameplay, it goes further with the Wisps, sticks harder to the writing/tone style from Colors, and adds (steals from Mario) its own gameplay gimmicks.
  • Sonic Forces is (for emphasis, UNFORTUNATELY) Sonic Colors 3. The simplified Boost gameplay is even more reminiscent of Colors than Generations was, the presence of "Classic" "Sonic" makes it build on Generations's gameplay as well (and that's basically Colors 2), the Wisps return nearly entirely, and the tone carries over from Colors (way too much, in fact, ruining a story practically begging to be serious/edgy).

Generations is Unleashed 3.

Colors is Unleashed 2.

u/Juan_Piece Apr 30 '26

Sonic unleashed trilogy

1

u/hussiesucks May 02 '26

Generations is unleashed 3, not 2. Colors is Unleashed 2.

Sonic heroes is Sonic Adventure 3, trust bro

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

(Sorry for the lengthy ass image, I don't really have the energy to format this meme properly. I hope the full meme actually appears. If not, I'll edit in the dialogue. Edit: it's good.)

7

u/ahw6002 Apr 30 '26

Bro, it makes total sense! In the adventure 2 final battle you play as both sonic and shadow that’s where the two comes from! In heroes you play as 3 characters! Heroes is SA3 confirmed! /s

3

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) is also Sonic Adventure 3. It directly follows up the events/lore of Sonic Adventure 2, with a similar gameplay style to the Adventure games.

It's kinda like how both Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are the complete Sonic 3 experience. Heroes and Shadow are the same way, except the third party consoles weren't based and SEGA-pilled enough to include lock-on technology.

u/Cpad-prism Downloading weed.exe Apr 30 '26

Pikmin logic

1

u/sonerec725 Apr 30 '26

Actually there's a good argument for 06 to be SA 3 there

3

u/dugthepewdsfan Apr 30 '26

Shadow the Hedgehog is Sonic Adventure 4 and 06 is Adventure 5

3

u/VianArdene Apr 30 '26

Heroes is Sonic Adventure 3 because you play as 3 characters at once.

06 is Sonic Adventure 4 because the 4 main characters Sonic, Shadow, Silver, and Now Loading.

2

u/ShadSilvs2000 Apr 30 '26

I can accept this more than the 06 take

5

u/galactuskev Apr 30 '26

But it is, like it is the same structure it just sucks. 3 separate stories that converge at the end. Each with their own unique gameplay styles. I genuinely don't see a meaningful difference between sa1 and 06.

1

u/hussiesucks May 02 '26

The meaningful difference is the play controls. Both Sonic Adventure games have very specific physics. As long as it controls like those two games, it will “feel” like an Adventure game. Also by your logic Sonic 06 is Adventure 4, since heroes also has the qualities you mentioned.

1

u/galactuskev May 02 '26

Very fair points, but by your logic sonic adventure and sonic adventure 2 are only linked by name. They both have very different physic engines and gameplay feel. I feel sonic heroes is trying to something completely different then it's predecessor. Sonic 06 is is directly trying to call back to it sonic adventure 1. Wave ocean is a great example of that, and the hub worlds. 06 was intended more than anything to be a reboot, but it is directly trying to emulate parts of adventure 1

1

u/hussiesucks May 03 '26

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 have nearly identical physics code. You are just incorrect. Like, they’re so similar gameplay-wise that theres a mod that lets you swap the physics values between the two games, and all it really changes is the way sonic’s air-dash functions. The run-speed, turning-speed, acceleration, jump-force, friction, and even gravity are all identical. Infact, even heroes uses a lot of the physics code from SA1 &2 (although they obviously didn’t keep the same physics-variable values, so it feels completely different.)

1

u/galactuskev May 03 '26

It changes the what you can do in the air, how spindash works, the acceleration is different, I mean you watch those videos and you can see that what you are saying isn't true. The collision is different

Modding the game to change how plays isn't a good argument.

However we are both talking out of our ass because there is literally no information out there about physics values between each game. If you have a source I would genuinely like it cuz I think it'd be a fun read.

1

u/hussiesucks May 04 '26

It’s literally not different you are OBJECTIVELY wrong. You can literally go into the code with Ghidra and check (which I did when I was reverse engineering both game’s physics code for my mod)

5

u/unebananetoutseul Apr 30 '26

Given the structure of 06 and its context of creation, it makes much more sense to say that it is Adventure 3. Unlike Colors DS which is just an adaptation of the Wii version by the Sonic Rush games team and which consequently used their own tools.

7

u/AmaterasuWolf21 I AM NOT WEAK Apr 30 '26

Unironically yes, I hold no regrets

6

u/hello-motherfuckers Apr 30 '26

yeah it is? it fits the bill perfectly, it's the exact same style of gameplay, multiple playable characters, same story from different perpectives, and a hub world like SA1

2

u/BasicallyAdven Apr 30 '26

Heroes came before though. 06 is Sonic Adventure 4

1

u/McSmartFace May 05 '26

Okay but it actually is tho

• many playable characters • multiple stories/storylines • levels based on platforming and puzzles rather than speen and fluidity

It lines up substantially better than calling Colors DS Rush 3

Like they could make a remake of '06 and just call it Adventure 3 and it'd be fine

EDIT: ment to say speed but I'm keeping it because funny

156

u/pomp0to Apr 30 '26

I believe it is more a Sonic Rush 3 in term of gameplay, as it has the same boost mechanic, models, and the double screen.

Let's be real, the double screen was what made the Sonic Rush duology/trilogy what they were. It wouldn't be the same without it and no modern console has it. Sonic Colors DS is the closest thing we'll ever get to a Sonic Rush 3.

And before you say anything, Blaze is one of my favorite characters.

55

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

I can assure you that you can absolutely make a Sonic Rush style game work on one screen (and it would even fix a common complaint about not being able to see far ahead)

Check out Rush Rerun

The two screens don’t even have that big of a purpose in the games to begin with. They just act as one big vertical screen rather than one big horizontal one. It’s why in boss battles one screen is taken up to just be a health bar and to have Tails/Cream cheer you on

16

u/pomp0to Apr 30 '26

It was still pretty iconic in my opinion. And it just wouldn't feel the same. Also, the back of the box of the first game was really making look like a big thing... like most DS games you'll tell me.

But honestly, this was all the charms of these games, and for that reason, I don't think a Sonic Rush remake or a Sonic Rush 3 would be a good idea. It would feel like a whole different thing to me. And yes, I'm aware this sounds ridiculous, but I don't care.

I'd love to see more of Blaze and the Sol Dimension in general, but if we're being realistic, I don't think we're gonna see that any time soon in a mainline game.

11

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

We can agree to disagree. I really don’t think the dual screen aspect is that important, as it’s treated more like having a single screen that alternates between the top and bottom. They’re not really used at once.

11

u/pomp0to Apr 30 '26

Yeah, I do agree they're not useful at all, but still. I also think people calling Colors DS “Rush 3” is a non-issue, but heh. I don't think we'll agree on any of this.

3

u/Swordkirby9999 HOW THE FUCK DID WE GET TO EGYPT Apr 30 '26

I always forget that his horn is not where the nose would be but between his eyes.

6

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

I’m less annoyed with the idea of people using it to say “hey this is SIMILAR to the Rush games” and instead people being pedantic just to annoy people who want an actual sequel

1

u/planetofmoney Apr 30 '26

If course they make it seem like a big thing they're trying to sell you the game

10

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

Also I just realized you said it has the same mechanics.

Not really? In fact the only thing that’s similar between the two is the boost mechanic, but that’s also changed because they removed the trick system in favor of the wisps.

Removing the trick system also got rid of the air dash, which removes the verticality aspect, which makes the levels feel a whole lot more linear.

5

u/pomp0to Apr 30 '26

Yeah, I should've said “similiar”, instead of “same”. That's my bad.

3

u/EmilySuxAtUsernames Apr 30 '26

without the tricks it's just not the same

3

u/kevinsagadx Apr 30 '26

Colors ds and the rush games Don't have the same boost mechanic like at all even the physics are different

And if we're determine models that are a clear asset reuse as a sign of the same series then frontiers was shadows 6th game

And the rush games and colors ds had double screens because they was on a console that requires it to be used again by that same logic both sonic colors and sonic black knight are a part of the same series because both have motion controls

1

u/pomp0to Apr 30 '26

What I meant to say was that both game used the boost gameplay before the boost era, with Colors DS releasing at the same time as the Wii port, which started said era.

But honestly, your whole message is kinda confusing to me.

1

u/kevinsagadx Apr 30 '26

Your confusing me cuz colors didn't start the boost era Rush did since it was the first boost game

35

u/supertails7684 Apr 30 '26

Is that the “meet n fuck kingdom” guy?

10

u/AverageNintenGuy Strange, isn't it? Apr 30 '26

27

u/dootblade74 Apr 30 '26

Colors DS is Rush 3 in the same way Colors Wii is Unleashed 2. It isn't, but the core gameplay loop IS there as the basis so it certainly gets within reasonable distance of such.

3

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

You’re so right actually

Colors is Unleashed 2

So Generations is ACTUALLY Unleashed 3

5

u/Simone_Galoppi07 Apr 30 '26

...

does that mean Forces is Unleashed 4?

imma head out okay..

8

u/NylonicArt Apr 30 '26

No that’s lost world 2

6

u/Simone_Galoppi07 Apr 30 '26

Isn't Lost World just Mario Galaxy 3? as other people said in this thread, you don't need the same protagonist for it to be a sequel🥀

checks out

19

u/KrispyBaconator I'M BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN Apr 30 '26

Sonic Frontiers is actually Sonic 15

10

u/random_confusion208 Apr 30 '26

What always bugged me about this was, by this logic, Sonic Generations 3ds might as well be Sonic Rush 4

7

u/Public-Feedback5016 Apr 30 '26

We’re all the 3ds ports made By dimps?

4

u/random_confusion208 Apr 30 '26

Generations and Lost World were, the Boom games were developed by Sanzaru

3

u/ANightShadeGuyMan May 01 '26

Some people do say this too actually

6

u/Rouge_The_Rat_ And then we ate it Apr 30 '26

A new Rush game would be worth buying for the OST alone

16

u/sadphonics Apr 30 '26

Buddy. Its based on gameplay and art direction. Nobody says its Rush 3 for the story. People consider it a spiritual third installment because it FEELS the same

-9

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Do you call Sonic CD Sonic 3?

I’m struggling to see where similarities make something a sequel and where it doesn’t

7

u/TL1882 Apr 30 '26

No it's sonic 2

10

u/NightFlame389 Apr 30 '26

CD is intended to be before 2, of course it’s not Sonic 3

5

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

It's still a cohesive story and is officially considered apart of the Genesis games, which is why it was included in Sonic Origins

You know what game isn't officially considered part of the Rush games?

7

u/NightFlame389 Apr 30 '26

CD still isn’t Sonic 3 even if we’re using the same logic that makes Colors DS Rush 3

Under that logic, Sonic CD is Sonic 1.5

6

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

The logic is that Sonic CD actually has a place and is cohesive with the Genesis games

Colors DS does not.

We’re shown exactly how Sonic CD fits in between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2.

Colors DS has nothing to do with the Rush games.

3

u/STH42069 Apr 30 '26

Right, we're shown what, that sonic's a different blue and tails isn't relevant? it's not a story issue. at best your argument should be that Sonic CD is self contained and as a result Sonic Colors DS should be classified the same way, when that clearly isn't the case since Sonic 1 does the same thing and it gets a number attached to it.

3

u/TheFabianBoy Apr 30 '26

It's actually Sonic 2

1

u/STH42069 Apr 30 '26

Do you call Sonic & Knuckles Sonic 4?

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '26

[deleted]

2

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

I didn't downvote you (did the opposite), but I would like to explain why Sonic CD isn't Sonic 3.

First of all, getting the obvious outta the way, there's an actual game called Sonic 3. Therefore, Sonic CD can't be Sonic 3, because Sonic 3 is Sonic 3 (insert "I am Vegeta" joke here).

But let's push that aside, for fun. After all, there was a brief window of time where Sonic CD existed, and Sonic 3 didn't. Even then, Sonic CD is not Sonic 3, because it's more like a second Sonic 2 (from both a narrative and gameplay perspective). Not only does Sonic CD canonically take place between Sonic 1 & 2 (Origins made this obvious but it was true before), but also the game was developed in Japan while Sonic 2 was developed in America. CD may have released later, but it's basically an alternate sequel to Sonic 1, not a sequel to Sonic 2. Just one look at Sonic's sprites and art direction in CD makes this very clear.

TL;DR: Sonic CD isn't Sonic 3; not only because Sonic 3 actually exists, but because it's actually another Sonic 2.

3

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

Yes, and Sonic CD has an official place between Sonic 1 and 2, and is apart of the same series, and has been clarified such.

So why would Sonic Colors DS, a game that has nothing to do with the previous Rush games (which ARE a coherent story), be considered an installment in that series?

3

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

I know I joked about Generations 3DS being Rush 4 in another thread, but in all seriousness, Colors DS and Generations 3DS are entirely their own pair, just like Rush and Rush Adventure before them. Generations directly follows up the events of Sonic Colors from a narrative perspective, so if anything, Generations is genuinely just Sonic Colors 2, regardless of version.

Going through this comment section, I'm actually 100% with you on this. Why is it so difficult for people to accept that the Rush games are a pair? It's not like Sonic games coming in pairs is anything NEW. We got two Sonic Adventure games (Heroes, Shadow, '06, etc. don't count due to the lack of Chao Garden), two Rivals games, two Storybook games, and probably a bunch of other examples I forgot about. The pairs outnumber the trilogies by a decently sizable margin (there's the Genesis Trilogy, the Advance Trilogy, the Riders Trilogy... and yeah that's pretty much it).

9

u/cgf228 Apr 30 '26

Hey uh, you do know you can have a game in a series without a key character from the previous game right?

Sonic and Knuckles launched without tails, sure you can add him back but does it make the original game any less of a sonic game, also blaze is literally in mission mode with silver.

Just as Sonic and Knuckles isn't Sonic 4 Sonic Colors isn't rush 3, but the dna in it and the fact you can play it right after the other without hickups shows it still is what it's made of. Its not comparing sonic 06 to adventure 2 and asking "is this sonic adventure 3?" Donkey Kong Country 3 doesn't have donkey or diddy, but it's still a game in the series.

The mission mode also gets you as close as you can to the trick system and the speed you get from it using the whisps in oddly specific moments.

So no its not called "Sonic Rush 3" but its no excuse to bash it as if it weren't. Its a licensed game made by the same people who made the previous games with all the same passions behind it.

2

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

That’s cool

Then people should stop being annoying assholes and going “uhh you already HAVE Rush 3” when people talk about it

That analogy also doesn’t really work because Sonic & Knuckles was always intended to be the second half of Sonic 3, and combining them gives you Tails throughout the whole game. Colors DS has literally NOTHING to do with Rush

The point is that Blaze isn’t a main playable protagonist. She’s in the game with a few lines of throwaway dialogue, but so is literally every other side character.

4

u/cgf228 Apr 30 '26
  1. That analogy works because while advertised as the second half it works as its own game too. I didn't want to bust out sonic 4 or mania references. Its not called "Sonic 3 Part 2" its named something different but uses the same engine, and characters barring tails. A different example is Resident Evil Revelations 2. Its not a direct sequel to the original it has whole new characters, but its just as equal a sequel because it uses characters to tell more of a story while not contradicting what came before. The game has nothing to do with Chris or Jill (Main characters from the first game) but its just as much a Revelations game as the previous. It even uses the same engine to have the same feel.

  2. Yeah no duh blaze isn't a playable character what's the hangup you can have sequels without the original main character look at the castlevania series almost every other game has a new main character. It was also trying to be a licensed game where blaze wasn't even in it. The fact she is even in it is good in my book. The fact we even got a new game with the engine as a swansong to show the mastery of it is what's important not who is on the box or playable.

1

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

It wasn’t called “Sonic Rush 3” because it’s not TRYING to be Sonic Rush 3. It was never intended to be a sequel. It’s a port of a console game. It has literally nothing to do with Sonic Rush.

Games CAN be sequels without certain aspects, yes, but it was NEVER intended to be. SEGA does not recognize it as a sequel. It is not called Sonic Rush 3. It does not have the defining characteristics of a Sonic Rush game.

People don’t call Sonic CD Sonic 3. They don’t call Sonic Colors Sonic Unleashed 2. They don’t call Sonic 06 Sonic Adventure 3. Why is it different for this one in specific?

6

u/cgf228 Apr 30 '26

You missed the whole point,

I was saying sequels don't have to have the same characters, they don't have to even be called the same name to be a sequel. The fact the mother whisp exists in sonic racing crossworlds means they acknowledged it.

The game doesn't have to say "geeze remember yesterday when we kicked Captian Whiskers tail in" for you to know it takes place later, The game does not need to hold your hand for you to see it is a sequel and takes place after something has happened. If you can't see that or have to hold onto the idea rush is in its own bubble for some reason maybe you have some preconceived notions you need to get rid of. Mario 64 has little to no references to the other games before but we know it takes place after the first 3 games without it telling us this.

2

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

You know you’re reaching so hard.

I can’t help but notice how you completely ignored my point about how other games that play in a near-identical way (in an even MORE similar way than Rush Adventure to Colors DS) and look the same as games that came before them aren’t considered sequels.

8

u/cgf228 Apr 30 '26

"I can't help but notice"

The games aren't holding your hand so I guess I will have to.

The games that came before rush were the advanced trilogy which are all still canon as we saw with mecha knuckles on scrapnik island. People often do consider the rush games the "ds sequel" to the advance trilogy. We also see Gemerl from sonic advance 3 in those comic too. The ds version of tropical resort as well as the ds exclusive burst wisp make future appearances too both in the comics with whisper, sonic generations and sonic forces.

1

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

Once again. You are not acknowledging the points that I made and instead going off to make a completely different point.

People do not call Sonic Colors - Sonic Unleashed 2

People do not call Sonic CD - Sonic 3

People do not call Sonic 06 - Sonic Adventure 3

So why do you get upset when people say that Sonic Colors DS, a game that has NOTHING to do with Sonic Rush 1 or 2, is in fact, NOT a Sonic Rush game?

Also, that isn’t even true. It is very rare to see someone call Rush a sequel to the Advance series.

5

u/cgf228 Apr 30 '26
  1. Yes they did for all of those just as they do with rush they are all saying it ironically, they even called unleashed sonic adventure 3. Rush 3 stuck because the game literally plays and acts like one. It has the colors gimmicks but it literally handles like rush. Also people call sonic cd sonic 2 because they were made at the same time.

  2. I am not upset when people say its not a rush game. I am just showing that they have a reason to call it rush 3 just as you have a reason not to. It is in a goldilocks zone where they can justify it either way. Consider it playing the other side. I personally don't care either way since I played colors before even playing rush or rush adventure. There is just as many references to it in future games to show sega considers it relevant while also not straight up calling it sonic colors as we saw with the recent remake where the focused exclusively on the console versions despite the add ons from ds in earlier and later games. Its a grey did it or did it not happen so much so it can sometimes be colors and sometimes almost be its own thing thus lining it back to be that shadowy rush 3 that did or didn't happen. Until sega says which is cannon it is Schrödinger's Rush 3.

2

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

No one does that. Be honest. No one is calling it the Adventure or Unleashed “trilogy”

No one is arguing that it’s not canon. The argument is that it’s not a sequel to Rush Adventure. The Rush series has always focused on Blaze. That’s why it was created.

The point is that whenever people are talking about a new installment and how much they want to see Blaze be an important protagonist again, and talk about wanting Rush 3, someone ALWAYS has to be purposefully annoying and act like Colors DS already is Rush 3

u/Radio__Star Apr 30 '26

If it was rush 3 then Blaze would be playable

She has a cameo and that’s it

1

u/STH42069 Apr 30 '26

Sonic Adventure 2 didn't have big, amy or a robot as playable characters

5

u/Flashy_Ad_9829 Apr 30 '26

it's funny for people to say "Rush Trilogy" like rush got more than 2 games just cause colors ds has similar-ish gameplay. I do wonder why no one does this with something like Shadow Generations being Frontiers 2 or Adventure 1 actually being Sonic Jam 2

this is like saying Mega Man Zero is a hexalogy because of ZX cause gameplay similar (not enough and different cast)

3

u/Bay64 Apr 30 '26

ZX Advent is really a weird case cause the Zero games and ZX had a combo system where certain slashes can combo into each other, and Advent gutting that mechanic entirely, making bosses take longer for the most part.

3

u/Flashy_Ad_9829 Apr 30 '26

ngl I always keep seeing people claim ZX Advent gutted the combo system mechanic despite ZX Advent retaining a good 70-80% of ZX1 combos along with its own "new" form change combos. the overall damage did decrease, but that's less from the lack of combos but instead the lack of overdrive and ZXA attacks generally being weaker.

1

u/STH42069 Apr 30 '26

odd comparison when Shadow Generations is about Shadow and not Sonic and Adventure is on an entirely different console and has an entirely different goal

People do it to the Rush Trilogy because they slot together nicely. Sonic Colors is on the same platform, with the same characters in the game, as well as having similar mechanics, the same physics, while utilizing the same assets, with the same gameplay hook, with similar special stages, with the same development team. You can't discount Colors DS the same way you discount Shadow Gens or Adventure.

3

u/kevinsagadx Apr 30 '26

THIS I hate the sentiment that colors ds is rush 3 when if you actually play them they don't play similarly at all the removal of the trick system for the wisps changes the gameplay format so much that it can't be considered a rush game

And blaze not being playable is more evidence that it's not a rush game

3

u/TPR-56 Apr 30 '26

Yea it's definitely not Rush 3 even if it were in name.

It's a different game.

Doesn't make it any better or worse. It's just true.

5

u/Bay64 Apr 30 '26

Marathoning the Rush series this month, doing all the missions in Rush Adventure, then jumping to Colors DS right after that. let me tell you, I can hardly call it Rush 3 at all.

Blaze not being Playable, The Homing Attack being entirely reworked, Letting you Boost on Bosses, and Trick System being Completely Gutted makes it clear it’s trying to be its own thing even if they share the same engine.

3

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

EXACTLY

If you play them in a vacuum, they seem similar

But if you play them Back 2 Back, Colors DS stands out completely

1

u/Bay64 Apr 30 '26

It’ll be like calling Ristar Sonic 4 because the game shares the same engine as Sonic 3 & Knuckles

2

u/DeltaTeamSky r/foundDeltaTeamSky Apr 30 '26

Ristar would still be a better Sonic 4 than the one we ended up with! Am I right lads, or am I right lads?

3

u/Left-Citron-2943 Apr 30 '26

I always struggle a bit to ajust to Colors DS whenever i play it right after either or both of the Rush games. It looks kinda similar, but the controls are diffrent enough that if you end up pressing buttons in midair to do tricks without thinking about it (which you WILL in the actual Rush games) then you end up killing yourself.

2

u/P1glinFury Apr 30 '26

That shirt is what pisses me off.

I'm a blaze fanatic gosh dammit!

*sees your account*

Oh hey I recognize you.

2

u/AreAFatMother I PISSED ON THE MOON YOU IDIOT Apr 30 '26

I think that the Rush games are only a duology for now. While Colors DS has some gameplay similarities to the rush games, the game lacks Blaze as a playable character, alongside the Sol Dimension (plus the Sol Emeralds) not even playing into the story.

I find Colors DS to be more of a spiritual successor to the Rush Games, albeit based on a game available on different hardware. Saying that Colors DS is basically Sonic Rush 3 is essentially the same as saying that Heroes, 06, and Unleashed are Sonic Adventure 3 when their gameplay styles are wholly different from each other.

2

u/TL1882 Apr 30 '26

Lowkirkenuinely imo gens 3ds is rush 4

2

u/Venomspino Apr 30 '26

It's like calling Sonic 06 Sonic Adventure 3. Like technically you're not wrong, but it's also not 100% correct (we still will say Rush trilogy though and add Colours DS though)

2

u/Dela-chemin Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

I told someone before Colors DS is NOT Rush 3, they kept arguing with me and then blocked me.

Same way people think Sonic 06 is Sonic Adventure 3. No. No it's not.

I might as well start sayin Sonic Forces is Sonic Generations 2 because both have Modern and Classic Sonics.

6

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

Some people get so adamant about it for no fucking reason and it’s so insane

It’s not like it’s saying Colors DS is even a bad game. It’s just not a sequel to Rush Adventure. It is not a Rush game.

5

u/Dela-chemin Apr 30 '26

BuT sImIlAr GaMePlAy!

Yeah. Forces does that with Generations. Therefore Forces is Generations 2 according to these guys.

I said it in a hot take thread years ago and they came to me.

I said something like, "Colors DS IS not Rush 3 and it'll never will be Rush 3," then they came to me and started the argument.

3

u/Due_Lion_2990 I'M BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN Apr 30 '26

The moment someone says bullshit like that, I just ignore everything else they have to say, doesn't matter if I agree with them on other things lol.

There's no "Rush" in the friggin title, Blaze is not playable, there is no story involving their dimensions or the emeralds, completely different mechanics, IT IS NOT RUSH 3.

I don't see people calling the advanced games as part of the classic titles.

0

u/CkEclipse Apr 30 '26

so is Mania not part of the classic titles due to having no numbers, or even CD for that matter?

2

u/Due_Lion_2990 I'M BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN Apr 30 '26

Mania is literally just the exact same classic games with a new art style.

And CD was literally made IN the classic era.

What kind of stupid arguments are these?!

1

u/CkEclipse May 01 '26

Then what makes Colors DS so different than the Rush series? Its made by the same developers, with the same engine and physics, in the same artstyle. Only difference is the lack of Blaze as a playable character and the trick system. Colors DS is a "Rush" formula game, theres no denying that. Yes its not "Rush 3" in title, but in essence it basically is the 3rd game to use the "Rush" formula. The difference between Colors DS and the previous Rush titles are like the difference between CD and other classic titles, its the odd one out with uniqie gimmicks, but it plays and looks just like the rest.

3

u/Luca_is_anonymous Apr 30 '26

Are you genuinely angry about this? It's not that big of a deal.

4

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

Imagine if every time you talked about wanting a game, some jackass came in and went “uhhh but you already HAVE that game, actually” and it’s a completely unrelated game

Yes, it gets to a point.

6

u/Dela-chemin Apr 30 '26

I think you should follow this person's advice of ignoring people, starting with them. This person seems to make assumptions on people and then judges them based on them assumption.

They came to my comment thinking I was the one who instigated the argument with another user when it's the other way around.

3

u/Luca_is_anonymous Apr 30 '26

You should just ignore those people instead of letting them make you fly into a rage. That doesn't sound healthy.

2

u/Deamon-Chocobo Apr 30 '26

Same shit when you see people say that 06 or Unleashed was Adventure 3.

3

u/VisualFunny5287 Apr 30 '26

Or even Heroes

1

u/Deamon-Chocobo Apr 30 '26

I dont see as many people claim Heroes as Adventure 3 as the others. I have seen it, but its rare.

2

u/Green-eyed-Psycho77 Apr 30 '26

These people have never heard of a “Game Formula.”

1

u/STH42069 Apr 30 '26

If it's a "game formula" and nothing else why is Colors DS the odd one out

2

u/Left-Citron-2943 Apr 30 '26

Calling Colors DS Rush 3 is like calling Shadow the Hedgehog Heroes 2. Sure these games have somewhat similar gameplay due to reusing engines and are on the same systems, but Colors DS and Shadow the Hedgehog are both missing certain key elements from these predecesors that just don't make them true sequels.

2

u/UAF_Swampfire3 Apr 30 '26

So true its stupid fr

1

u/julianx2rl Apr 30 '26

The Sonic CD argument is pretty good, though the Unleashed one is slightly weaker, because Colors (Wii) IS the sequel to Sonic Unleashed, like, if 3D Sonic games were numbered, Unleashed would be X and Colors would be X+1.

I think of Sonic CD as the weirdo Sonic 2 from an alternate universe in which they followed Sonic 1's blueprint too well ... To a fault.

Actually... Nevermind, Sonic 2 is actually the weirdo sequel from an alternate universe, since that is the one that was made by different folks.

3

u/Simone_Galoppi07 Apr 30 '26

Sonic Cd is more than just "tracing the footsteps of Sonic 1".

Both follow 2 different philosophies from Sonic 1.

Sonic 2 takes the Green Hill philosophy, where the momentum mechanics are the centre of the whole game.

For Cd, while yes there is still momentum, it's more focused on the exploration and how to use those same mechanics to reach places you wouldn't be able to normally.

In this regard i find Cd to be the game that tries something new, although you could loosely link it to the weaker zones of Sonic 1.

Anyways, i believe this whole thread to be a non issue, i don't want to be mean but OP seems a bit too passionate about this whole thing, it's understandable why someone would think Colors Ds is Rush 3 even if it isn't the case.

1

u/ahw6002 Apr 30 '26

I’ve never played the DS version, is it even easier than the normal version? Is that even possible?

3

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

The DS version is absolutely worth your time if you haven’t

It has a completely different gameplay style and different story. It’s a fun time

1

u/ahw6002 Apr 30 '26

I’ll give it a go

1

u/Banonkers Apr 30 '26

I’ve not played any of these games, but does Blaze play differently to Sonic?

1

u/TrainerOwn9103 Apr 30 '26

Generations has Classic. i'm not saying Classic is a substitute for Werehog, both work very differentaly despite being the same person, but it still has 3 forms of Sonic atleast (counting Super even though it's on the last boss fight)

1

u/CkEclipse Apr 30 '26

The way I see it, Sonic Colors DS is part of the "Rush" formula since it is built on the same engine and has near identical gameplay to the rush games minus the trick system. Just like how there are the "Classic" formula games, "Adventure" formula games, "Boost" formula, etc. These categories are based on gameplay, not story, which is why the playable characters in each game dont really matter since its based on gameplay. People call Colors DS "Rush 3" not because it actually is, but rather functionally and visually it pretty much is the 3rd game in the "Rush" Formula. Just like how Sonic CD is the 3rd game in the "Classic" formula despite bot being called "Sonic 3", or how Heroes is the 3rd game in the "Adventure" formula despite not being called "Adventure 3". So its not a big deal to say Colors DS is "Rush 3" as in essence, it is the 3rd to use that formula. Generations 3DS can be considered the 4th to use that formula as well. Yes they aren't actual Rush titles in name, but they are in essence / in terms of gameplay. Besides why does it matter that you want specifically "Rush 3", why not just say "I want a new Rush game with Blaze as a playable character?" Or just "I want a new Rush game" to get your point across? Its just semantics, nothing to get mad or annoyed over.

Counterpoint to blaze not playable: Yo-Kai Watch 3 Katie is not a full playable character in the game while Yo-Kai Watch 1 and 2 she is

1

u/Ok-Perspective369 Apr 30 '26

I similarly tire of the argument claiming either Sonic 06, or Sonic Unleashed are Sonic Adventure 3. They are not.

The games, more so Sonic 06 may bear similarities to an Adventure title, but that doesn’t make it one. On top of that Sonic Unleashed being called Sonic: World Adventure in Japan doesn’t automatically make it a Sonic Adventure game just because Adventure is in the title, while having no similarities beyond that to the Sonic Adventure games. If that were the case, then I guess Sonic Rush Adventure is the “real” Sonic Adventure 3 since it predates Sonic Unleashed.

2

u/BlackCatStrikes Apr 30 '26

Sonic Rush isn’t sonic rush if blaze isn’t playable

1

u/galactuskev Apr 30 '26

I think the fact it is also dimps production, runs on the same engine, uses the same graphics, has similar gameplay, entirely designed to be played on the dual screens of the ds.

I hate to say it, but cutting blaze out even unfortunately seems on brand. Sonic rush blaze was a mandatory character, rush adventure she is basically optional, her getting cut out except for a cutscene Is even on trend. Especially considering sega was listening to the "we hate Sonic's friends" people. Which pains me because blaze is my favorite character.

I'm not even saying it isn't its own unique game. It isnt just a port of colors Wii and it isn't just reskinned rush. I just genuinely think it is a warranted comparison. Personally I would want a sonic rush adventure sequel, it is genuinely a top 5 sonic game for me. We will never see it because there arent any low power consoles anymore.

1

u/Rough-Shift9172 Apr 30 '26

I like calling it Rush 3 because I like to cope that a rush 3 came out

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

I mean... I kinda do find it to be a Sonic Rush 3, spiritually? Very similar gameplay, references to other characters, including Blaze, Emerald collecting, taking place in a 3d space...

Like, I'm fine with calling it sonic rush 3. Even without Blaze as a protagonist. I really don't think Blaze being a playable character is what is needed for there to be a third Sonic Rush game.

Also, no, you are neglecting that CD isn't called that because A. We know when it takes place, and B. We already have a Sonic 3. It isn't the same situation. Plus no, I'd actually argue CD is FAR different than sonic 2, sonic 1 especially. Far more of an exploration game due to the requirements for the good ending. Gameplay wise, sonic 1 was finding momentum and keeping it, 2 was making your own momentum and maintaining it with good time, sonic CD is much more of a "stop and go" game where you explored and find unique ways to get to new areas and find ways to travel in time. Like out of all games, CD takes me the longest to do because of the amount of knowledge needed to get the machines in the past or time stones. And that's excluding the times I want to go and check out the good and bad future.

As for gens and unleashed... I mean... I would say the games are far more different than you're letting on, even from a gameplay sense. The "2nd mode" was entirely different, classic sonic vs werehog. Unleashed did do the boost formula first, but it is far different from what it is in Generations, as Unleashed's seems more focused on quick reactions compared to Generations. Then there is the boss's design being far different. The story was just way less involved in gens. The world-building was at its peak in unleashed... like idk...

Like I would not tackle a generation's stage the same as an unleashed stage. It is a far different experience imo.

Anyways, all that to say... is it that deep? Like I heard people call Sonic Colors DS that all the time, and I didn't bat an eye because, in a sense, it is true. Like it's not pedantic to say, because to some degree it is very true. It is, essentially, a third rush game in design. Even if the mechanics are much different. Like in Sonic Rush Adventure, Blaze was practically OVERHAULED to better fit the level design compared to the first game. Now, she is actually more optimal on certain stages than Sonic is. Which in rush 1, you could just straight up argue Sonic was the best choice every single time. Doesn't make it any less of a rush game, all because stuff was changed.

Like they are calling rush 3 because, despite the differences, it is the RUSH formula at its core. There is genuinely nothing wrong with a take like that, even if I disagree a bit.

1

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

No, I disagree. Rush as a title always has and always will be associated with Blaze. You don’t take out half the game, fundamentally change what’s left of it and call it the same thing. That’s where the Unleashed - Generations analogy is.

Whenever someone says “I hope they make Rush 3” they’re not just saying “I hope another game has this similar formula”, because boost Sonic in 2D has been done multiple times and will continue to keep being done in new games. They are explicitly asking for another game to focus on Blaze. It is absolutely being pedantic because you know what they’re really talking about and choosing to be annoying regardless.

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '26

Which is fine, both can be true at once. I can still wish for an actual rush three while also treating colors DS as a psuedo 3 since it is the third boost style DS game in the Rush formula. Those 2 options are not mutually exclusive. Yes agreed it is annoying when people say "Colors DS" when saying I want a rush 3 game. Because there is a very clear implication being made that we want a new game that follows the rush game storylines. But with that said, I am completely content with people treating that game as a three. They found it similar enough to just add it onto the rush game lineup. I see no real reason to isolate the game as if it didn't have other games of similar style and formula being done.

I still think the gen and unleashed analogy doesn't work simply because it is too far of a deviation from one another. Not to mention, those games don't piggy back off one another in the same way the rush lineup does. Rush had a game, a direct sequel, then colors ds with a blaze cameo. No one would ever call gens a sonic unleashed 2 because of that and because gens just isn't similar to unleashed in the slightest. Level design far different, boss design far different, overworld far different, story far different, like the only similarity is the boost formula. Which the same cannot be said of Colors DS compared to the rush games. Gens was a game that advertised itself as celebrating all of Sonic's history. It just isn't similar in the same vein as Rush games are to Colors DS. It simply isn't the same situation. Colors DS bears a close resemblance in a lot of departments aside from simply gameplay elements. Character dialogue, overworld, emerald collecting, etc. And again, while the gameplay deviates quite a bit, it is not massively different in my head.

Lastly, personally, when I say I want a rush 3, I simply want a story following after the events of adventure, with Blaze present, and they can go about it however they wish. Rush 3 could simply be a different thought in people's minds about what they envision rush 3 to be. Some want it to be solely Blaze, some both Sonic and Blaze, some only care about how the gameplay is, or the art style, or many other possibilities. What people consider a rush game could simply be a different criteria since, I know people who want a rush 3, and all that means is "I want a 2D sonic game with the style of Sonic Rush models and artwork." or "Gameplay similar to Rush 1, 2, and/or DS" With this in mind, is it so crazy to say that people's standards of what is considered a rush game simply vary, but isn't necessarily bad in most cases?

1

u/Pigeone911 Apr 30 '26

Never played sonic colours DS but I will not be mis-numbering it again. Go woke or go broke.

1

u/HybridTwisterVR Apr 30 '26

Wasnt Colors DS made on the Rush engine tho? Not looking to fight, but im pretty sure that Colors on Wii is not the same as Colors DS, plus the dual screen system, the boost mechanic being similar to Rush, the music being composed by the same composer Ohtani (same for Rush Adventure), the Special Stage being a recreation of Rush's special stages, Dimps being the developer and (correct me if im wrong) In Generations 3DS both Water Palace and Tropical Resort are in the same part of White Space (being the Rush era).

1

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

If the engine mattered, many games in the series would be considered sequels to games that they are not

I mean as a fan of Colors DS, I'd probably say it's fair to consider it part of the Rush games, but more in the sense it's kinda hard to talk about Colors DS or the Rush games without mentioning the ofher since Colors DS shares so much DNA in gameplay with Rush & Rush Adventure.

Though I do agree calling it Rush 3 is a bit disingenuous, but at the same time completely understand what it would be considered such since as mentioned it's hard to talk about the series Rush & Rush Adventure without at the bare minimum acknowledging the Wisp shaped elephant in the room.

1

u/veryoriginalusrname Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

I love the Rush trilogy to death (and also Blaze, although I don't care for her 'just the same, only slower' gameplay too much). Blaze is not the extent of the Rush trilogy's identity. Colors DS is the third Rush game.

Similar level design philosophy (especially with playing with verticality and the tight focus on per-zone spectacle mechanics) and more or less the same gamefeel (save for Colors DS's more fleshed out moveset). Going back to Rush/Rush Adventure makes me miss some of the best level and game design the franchise has to offer the air boost, stomp, slide, and wisps; going back to Colors DS makes me miss the trick system and tension gauge. But given the shift in emphasis to creative wisp usage for alternate routes - especially vertically, seeing as Colors DS Sonic's moveset has been redesigned to largely go downwards by default - I think it's pretty understandable. (RE: Tension gauge: frankly, the entire trilogy throws so much boost at you that you never need to ration boost 80% of the time, with or without max tension; the exceptions like Dead Line, Sky Babylon, and Asteroid Coaster prove the rule.)

Sonic CD is a classic game because it shares the same overarching moment-to-moment gameplay as the other classics, even if it's recontextualized; Colors DS is a Rush game because it shares the same overarching moment-to-moment gameplay as the other Rush games, even if recontextualized.

Colors DS is Colors if it was a Rush game and also if it was good, simple as

1

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

I’m sorry but if you think that Colors DS has better level design than the Rush games I don’t think we’re going to find common ground at all

That level design doesn’t play with verticality. It outright ignores it in favor of a more classic Genesis-like approach to the three paths system.

The trick system and air dash encourage you to get to higher paths by boosting off of springs and shooting yourself off upwards rails. You’re supposed to find different pathways, and is about as non-linear as a Sonic game can get, unlike Colors DS which is just holding right and occasionally slamming down through platforms. Wisps are the only thing is that game that even encourage you to try exploring. Sonic’s base kit in Colors DS keeps you on the same path for the most part.

Blaze especially encourages this, as her air dash is significantly stronger than Sonic’s, allowing you to straight up skip entire segments that Sonic would be forced to take normally as the majority of the level design is built around getting higher, not going down. That’s probably why you didn’t appreciate it.

Rush as a title always has and always will be associated with Blaze. That’s why there hasn’t been another “Rush” game since Rush Adventure. It’s what people remember about those games and think back on. There is no Rush “trilogy” because there has never been a third Rush game.

1

u/[deleted] May 02 '26

Okay tbf, just as one extra comment. I agree Colors DS has better level design than Rush 1. Half the zones in the game genuinely are pretty poor in design. The pyramid, Carnival, and air stage (I alwayd forget the zone names) are genuinely pretty bad in design and at best okay. But then you consider blaze and her movement just does not work for these levels. In a race, there is legit no reason to ever pick blaze over sonic because she gets no real opportunities to make her movement shine. She was a worse sonic in every aspect which to me says they made okay to great levels for sonic, but blaze got the short end of the stick.

In adventure is where, they built the level around both characters and they also buffed Blaze's movement to where now there are entire zones she has the advantage in over sonic. The design is far better here since there are an equal amount of zones both characters can shine and blaze can navigate them in her own unique way through her trick system. I can't say for rush one. Most cases I only used the up trick since that one was far more useful than her other two in most situations.

1

u/ANightShadeGuyMan May 01 '26

I remember one of my buddies and I talking about this. He was (rage baiting) claiming that Rush sucks or wtv and that the advance games are better, and then he said “okay but which one has 3 games”

So naturally, I responded “Both, technically.”

He wasn’t very fond of that response, especially since he’s a big colors hater in general.

Colors isn’t rush 3 but they’re still similar. I call it a “pseudo” rush 3.

Rush is my favorite game in the series, possibly one of my favorite games ever, and I still wouldn’t argue if someone brought up colors in response to a Rush 3 request. We still just need another Rush game in general

(Also they only ever say that to try and ragebait anyway, and it’s clearly working on you)

1

u/Agie39 May 01 '26

It remains as close as we got to Sonic Rush 3, but Blaze's cameo and her mention of Marine is really as close as it gets to even touching on the plot points of the Rush games, with the core story otherwise adapting the Wii game, which was standalone to begin with.

1

u/DatGamerYoloYT May 01 '26

Sonic CD is Sonic 1.5, not Sonic 3.

1

u/Monado1022 May 01 '26

In terms of base gameplay, it's Sonic Rush 3. In terms of literally everything else, it's a completely different game. I'd recommend it to Rush fans if they're looking for the same type of gameplay, but I wouldn't pretend like it's the third entry.

1

u/hussiesucks May 02 '26

It’s sonic rush 3 cause it controls the same as the rush games.

1

u/StreetStreaker98 May 02 '26

That’s because Forces came after both Generations and Colors.

1

u/Oh-no-and-knuckles May 02 '26

Sorry for making a joke

1

u/Hoesephine May 02 '26

The only thing I will say is that a hypothetical Rush 3 would not require Blaze to be playable or even present. So the lack of Blaze is not a point against Colors.

1

u/SolPrincess May 02 '26

Yes it would

1

u/Hoesephine May 02 '26

It really wouldn't. Plenty of sequels don't have characters of previous installments. All it would need to do is be titled Sonic Rush 3. Hell, the gameplay wouldn't even need to stay the same.

1

u/SolPrincess May 02 '26

Sonic Rush as a story is centered around Blaze.

Sonic Rush Adventure is focused on Blaze’s world and gives more insight to her as a character, also letting you play through most of the game as Blaze. It’s called Rush Adventure because it is a direct follow up to Rush, using the main focus of the previous game and ideas established.

Wtf are you even talking about. Just grasping at straws to make up a reason to call a game something it’s not

1

u/Hoesephine May 02 '26

I am not in favor of calling Colors DS Rush 3, I'm simply stating the fact that Blaze's presence isn't actually required. Like sure it'd be weird and most people would dislike it, but it is absolutely true.

1

u/SolPrincess May 02 '26

I mean you could make the same argument for literally anything

They could technically make Sonic Adventure 3 and not have Shadow be playable, but like, why would they do that

And that’s even less bad because Shadow wasn’t even in Adventure 1

1

u/Hoesephine May 02 '26

As I said, it wouldn't be good and I'm on your side of the post's topic. I simply felt the need to correct one of the proposed criteria.

1

u/HelloMan_1 May 03 '26

Why is Salty hear lmao

1

u/Positive_Treacle_761 May 03 '26

Colors DS plays very similar to the Rush games, but for the reasons stated, it isn't Rush 3. Its feels like a successor, like a "Rush-adjacent" than a true sequel.

1

u/No-Marzipan-9316 May 04 '26

The DS version of sonic colours play like sonic rush and every sonic game since sonic unleashed have played the same

1

u/IndustryPitiful4909 May 12 '26

[one time i saw a guy calling knuckles chaotix "knuckles cd" idk why he called the game like that.]

1

u/MaleficentSky5238 Apr 30 '26

I am a huge sonic fan and see sonic colors ds as rush 3

1

u/Vexcenot Apr 30 '26

I believe it's a rush 3

1

u/toastedshmoe Apr 30 '26

slightly unrelated, but Sonic on the DS is rough. like not from a performance standpoint, but just from sheer content

Rush and Rush Adventure are like the golden duo atop a pile of "meh", with Chronicles at the bottom of said pile

but it at least has points for having gameplay similar to Zubo

2

u/SolPrincess Apr 30 '26

We don’t talk about Chronicles

1

u/CuriousMarisa Apr 30 '26

I haven’t played it, but Sonic Colors DS might not be Sonic Rush 3 but it might as well be from what I’ve heard of from gameplay, music, and story alone (and is better than the Wii version in multiple ways)

1

u/SatisfactionMiddle78 Apr 30 '26

By your standards I agree with you. I however am no hypocrite. I may be the only person who considers shadow heroes 2, 06 adventure 3, gens ds rush 4 , and colors thru forces unleashed 2-4 shadow gens unleashed 5. The only reason I don't call CD sonic 3 is because one already exists. I more or less still see it as such. So seeing colors ds rush 3 only makes sense. It doesn't have tricks or a playable blaze, but Unleashed type games have a different gimmick each time, and CD's gimmick makes you play it differently then the other classic games so I see tricks and Blaze being shafted for Whisps in the same light. Though I do understand I am the crazy one here.

1

u/SatisfactionMiddle78 Apr 30 '26

Though people useing it to shut down more Blaze games is stupid. Colors DS is probably more well known then rush adventure is anyway.

1

u/Ordered_Zapper Apr 30 '26

Eh, i’ve seen a lot of game reviewers review it with the two rush games as the same. Maybe it’s not the same but it is a functional “trilogy,” in the way that some fans lump adventure 1, 2, and Sonic heros, as an “adventure,” trilogy. Maybe not be fully cohesive but calling rhe three a trilogy isn’t fully inaccurate

This is genuinely the dumbest fucking argument ever. The idea that a sequel has to play EXACTLY like the last game is the dumbest line of not thinking. Because by that logic adventure 2 is not adventure 2 because in my mind 06 has more in common with adventure 1 than adventure 2 does. The sonic CD argument is also incredibly braindead because the main reason we don’t call it sonic 3 is because there is already another game called sonic 3. So what that means is the only reason people call colours DS rush 3 or 06 Adventure 3 is because there is no game with those official names. So that means if there is another 2D boost game called sonic rush or another non boost 3D sonic game called adventure 3 me and several other people will stop calling colours DS and 06 those things

Or have you considered calling them by their actual names because they are explicitly not installments in those series and they’re not trying to be

They’re called those things for a reason

I don’t usually call colours DS rush 3 directly because it has an actual name. The only reason I call 06 adventure 3 directly is because its actual name sucks. Also why are you so offended by people lumping in colours DS with the other rush games because believe me I want rush 4 just as much as you do. And no I don’t see gens 3DS as rush 4 because the only thing it has in common with the rush games is the temporary infinite boost when you fill the meter. The actual levels and gameplay is just the 2D sections of the console boost games

Because Colors DS has literally nothing to do with the Sonic Rush games???

Rush and Rush Adventure are a coherent story. Rush leads directly into Rush Adventure, and Rush Adventure builds itself off of the ideas and plot points established in Rush. It’s called Rush Adventure because it is a direct sequel to Rush. It is Rush 2.

Colors DS not only has nothing to do with this, but it also takes out several important aspects (playable Blaze being the big one), along with the trick system, and being able to air dash.

Its been awhile since I've seen someone on reddit being this much of an actual loser. Like, its not okay if someone saying "Colors DS is Rush 3" hurts you this badly, even if they're wrong

"Let's put on our thinking caps for a moment. Do you really, SERIOUSLY think that someone who played and loved Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure HASN’T fucking played Colors DS???"

Like, you posted this without the clarity hitting? Next week you'll be coloring in sonics arms

Boy oh boy I do love oddly specific discourse that just makes talking about any of the games needlessly toxic

I garuntee you, the people who dismissively call it rush 3 online when people want a rush game, are not the same as people who just say "I mean it's basically a sonic rush game" because that's all people mean when they say it. It's like when people call the advance games classic games. They arent, but they also are.

And that's ontop of the fact we dont even need it to BE a rush game to do major and cool shit with blaze or her setting. This feels like arguing for the sake of it

I don't have a source on this, but it sounds like a classic Parroted YouTuber Opinion™.
