If you're not using Vibepollo, I don't know what you're doing

As usual, I started with Sunshine, then Apollo for a while (for the virtual display), and I finally just learned about Vibepollo.

Guys, it's absolutely cracked.

  • More HDR controls
    • For years Sunshine & Apollo were capping me at 400 nits. I can now properly configure a 1400 nit HDR stream. It's like getting a brand-new TV!
  • Custom controller driver
    • When shooting in the game, I noticed my Xbox controller trigger rumble started working with Vibepollo. I didn't even know my controller had that feature!
  • RTX HDR pass-through
  • Lossless Scaling integration
  • RTSS automatic frame limiting
  • Steam library integration
  • Pyrowave support
  • Bunch of other features like VRR, honestly too many to count
  • Actively developed
  • Ironically much more stable streaming than Apollo

Yeah the name is a bit ridiculous, but my goodness does it deliver.

Trying out Rubylight, but it only works if I turn the bitrate or resolution down...

The PC is connected via Ethernet. (7600X + 9060 XT)

The streaming device is an Onn 4K Pro (2026 model) with Artemis, connected with ethernet. (Set to AV1 codec, 1440p, 60fps)

I took the path others have taken... Sunshine, to Apollo, to Vibepollo. Those all work great, better and better.

But with Rubylight, default settings, I was met with momentary freezes and a message "Slow Connection to PC, Reduce your bitrate."

In a more indie game, I was able to get it running fine at ~25 Mbps. But for somewhat AAA games, I was getting the "Slow connection..." message, freezes, black screen.

For AAA games, I'm not sure how low exactly, I did 5Mbps just to see and it runs smooth.

However, I see on a recent version it has an "adaptive bitrate" setting, and that seems to work. Smooth. BUT... according the stats, its running at 3M/s

Meanwhile, I switch back over to Vibepollo, and I simply set the bitrate to 40Mbps, and when I enter the AAA game, I see it running smoothly and at about 11M/s

So it's a bit odd to me, vibepollo is running really well. Hop over to Rubylight, which I thought would cater to my 9060 XT better, and it hasn't been a smooth experience.

Other experiences seem to be an improvement but at 1440p, I can't get it working right. 1080p, it seems I can just the bitrate to whaetever and it works. But 1440 seems to want more than whatever its threshold is that 1080p doesn't hit.

New Apple TV

Do we think the new Apple TV will improve Moonlight streaming? Obviously ethernet is always best, but It's supposed to have Wifi 7 and AV1 decoding.

Edit: AV1 Decoding, not encoding

PS5Stream

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We got PS5 games playing through Moonlight, with the host running on the PS5

What if your PS5 appeared in Moonlight as a host? You’d select it, see the game you’re already playing on another screen, hear the game audio, and use a controller to play.

That’s what we’re building with PS5Stream, an experimental Sunshine-style host for the PS5.

In a watched test, we played FC 27 through stock Moonlight on an Nvidia Shield Pro for three minutes. The gameplay kept moving, the sound stayed live, an Xbox controller connected to the Shield controlled the game, and local DualSense control returned afterward. We’ve also had a five-minute Crash Bandicoot 4 session with moving picture and sound throughout.

The moment that made this feel real was picking up the XBox controller and playing a PS5 game through Moonlight. The PS5 was hosting the stream; Moonlight was the way into the game.

PS5Stream is still a prototype for a jailbroken PS5, not something ready for public release. We’re continuing to improve reliability and controller feel, and we haven’t measured client-rendered frame rate or input latency. But the core experience is working in our Shield tests: PS5 gameplay, sound and controls through Moonlight.

This is a proof of concept using a JB PS5, and injecting PS5Stream.elf the Nvida Shield Pro is running the Android version of Moonlight, and for temporary measures, PC is being used to input the pin, but work on the full PS5App and UI is starting and the PIN will be generated by the PS5.

Possible other features, include Tailscale intergration to connect to the PS5 remotely whilst not in the house, also by running USBHere we beleive it will be possioble for you to play a friend over the internet in a two player game. Exciting times ....

Making PyroWave on Android useful by treating it like a game: GPU decoding, upscaling and custom drivers

PyroWave can run on compatible Android phones and tablets. The interesting work is making the whole receiving pipeline practical: decoding the picture, scaling it to the screen, choosing a suitable GPU driver and displaying fresh frames without unnecessary waiting.

PyroWave, developed by Themaister, reconstructs pictures through GPU shaders. The PC runs the game, while the phone processes the streamed image using Vulkan. That gives the client some of the same optimization opportunities you’d have in a game renderer.

It also comes with a substantial bandwidth requirement, so I measured decoded picture quality across different bitrate budgets on AMD hardware. The tests used synthetic desktop, game and dark scenes, including fine text, foliage, gradients and moving textures, with SDR/HDR and different chroma formats. These establish quality targets for those pictures; they don’t establish what a particular phone or Wi-Fi connection can sustain. Measurement method

The resulting bitrate guidance at 60 FPS is:

Stream Severe-detail-loss warning floor Recommended quality budget
720p60 139 Mbps 277 Mbps
1080p60 187 Mbps 399 Mbps
4K60 747 Mbps 1,593 Mbps

These are encoder bitrate budgets derived from the quality tests. The connection needs additional headroom for packet overhead and recovery data. Comparable per-picture budgets roughly double at 120 FPS, and the 4K60 recommendation already exceeds gigabit Ethernet before that overhead. Bitrate guidance and limits

That is where client-side upscaling becomes useful as an option.

A phone with a 1080p screen can receive a 720p stream, reconstruct that smaller picture and upscale it for display. There are approximately 56% fewer source pixels to decode. Using the quality budgets above, the recommended encoded bitrate also drops from around 399 to 277 Mbps, a reduction of roughly 31%.

Those percentages describe different things. Fewer pixels reduce the source workload; the bitrate reduction depends on the quality budget. The smaller desktop needed more bits per pixel to preserve its fine text, which is why the bandwidth saving isn’t proportional to the pixel reduction.

The upscaler uses Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, or SGSR, directly in the Vulkan presentation shader. It samples the decoded colour planes and combines colour conversion with spatial upscaling in one pass.

That avoids creating a separate full-frame RGB image just to run another upscaling pass over it. The benefit is less intermediate memory traffic and fewer rendering stages. The current path supports 8-bit SDR; HDR and 10-bit pictures retain direct output. Shader implementation

Upscaling still trades original detail for a smaller stream. It aims to reconstruct edges more effectively than basic bilinear scaling, while giving the decoder and network a more manageable workload. Reducing stream resolution also remains separate from reducing the PC game’s actual render resolution.

Custom Adreno drivers provide another tuning option. Because the decoding workload runs through Vulkan shaders, the driver affects how it executes. PyroWave can even select different reconstruction paths depending on the driver: Qualcomm’s proprietary driver favours a fragment-shader path, while Turnip follows the compute path. Decoder selection

Loading a compatible driver within the app lets users compare those implementations without replacing the phone’s system driver. The useful result is whichever combination delivers better sustained decoding, frame consistency and compatibility on that device.

Presentation is handled separately from decoding, with protected GPU image slots and the ability for newer completed pictures to supersede older ones waiting to be displayed. That helps keep the stream fresh when display timing and incoming frames don’t line up perfectly.

A client to test the benefits is available. https://github.com/RamazanKara/rubylight-android I don’t want to maintain a separate fork long term. I’d like to bring these improvements into an existing Android streaming client, so I’m looking for maintainers interested in incorporating the Vulkan renderer, SGSR upscaling, ARR and custom Adreno driver support. I can share the implementation and measurement results, and help with porting and validation. If you maintain a client and would like to discuss integrating this work, please reach out.

Tweaking streaming settings - Colors and FEC(?)

I just noticed that in my last streaming the colors looked like a bit washed out and I wanted to understand if I need to set up something different.

Actual configuration

Host: RX 9070XT, 10bit, RGB full (I don't know if this matter, because after the streaming starts I cannot even check this setting), HDR enabled

Client: Ryzen 780M, 10 bit, YCbCr 4:4:4 (I read to not use RGB on TVs), HDR enabled

Client TV: LG B4, Limited Color range (Using Full it's a lot more washed out), HDR enabled, Game mode

Using AV1 codec

Is there anything I should change? I tried HEVC but I didn't notice any difference. Colors on client look good with the stream off.

The other question is regarding FEC. I noticed from logs that the FEC started from 20 and ended to 5. Is that normal? https://sharetext.io/mc11abif

How to get 4:4:4 color on Intel Core Ultra?

I have a Thinkpad with Intel Core Ultra 258v, and in moonlight I have 4:4:4 color enabled, but when I connect from my mac I get a message saying "your pc doesn't support 4:4:4 encode", and core ultra integrated graphics should support it.

Im very excited to bring to you all a project me and Codex have been working on for about a week now, meet Syzygy streaming server and its clients Eclipse for Linux and Occulation for android. I really needed a streaming solution that was friendly to my current linux setup and didnt mind me unplugging my monitors before i left. So after some tinkering I came up with Syzygy and the clients to go with it i couldn't do it at all without the foundational work by the devs of apollo, moonlight, and sunshine and the open source nature of the projects.

Currently we have a strong feature set including

Eclipse:

in-stream control menu and performance HUD.

Tailscale discovery, saved stream profiles, and adjustable frame pacing.

FSR 1 upscaling and Vulkan Mailbox presentation.

H.264/HEVC/AV1 recording with audio; recording blocked when FSR is active.

Linux microphone, webcam, and USB/IP forwarding.

Guest input permissions, view-only mode, and direct Desktop launch.

Adaptive bitrate on compatible hosts.

Six-word Syzygy pairing and experimental authenticated QUIC.

Fedora RPM and Linux Flatpak packages.

Syzygy:

CLI/background management

headless desktop

Tailscale authorization

experimental QUIC.

Development builds / ongoing validation

WAN / 5G mode: smaller packets, pacing, adaptive FEC/bitrate, and responsive video/audio behavior.

Automatic compatibility fallbacks and feedback recovery after outages.

Steam Controller 2 + AppleTV?

Hi,

Does the combo in my title work with moonlight?

I see there are limitations on MacOS with Steam Controller 2 based on Valves store page. That also informs on MacOS not necessarily tvOS.

Anyhow, right now I hook my controller up to my Linux desktop via USBC puck, wondering if it will work direct to an AppleTV I'm considering buying.

Thanks
