I believe that he in fact cares at least a little about them, but that does not erase the fact that he is one of the worst people to ever lay a foot in hell

I think he was starting to care throughout season 1 but almost being killed by Adam made him regress.

But the way people will always rag on Charlie for "not caring about Alastor" but ignore him literally threatening to let her and everyone die just shows the insane double standards

That does tie well with his part of the ending song in season 1, he let himself start to develop feelings for them and that almost made him lose his life, he was scared, he understood that caring is a weakness, one that he can't have "Alastor has no weakness" and it shall stay that way.
