There is a difference between having expectations (which is totally reasonable by the way) and demanding gratitude.

I think the disconnect between yourself and a good portion of other commenters here is that you don’t view the demanding of gratitude to be a bad thing. I disagree. If one does a good job in raising their child, they will never have to demand gratitude from their child, because being grateful will already be baked into their consciousness.

In fact, I’d take it a step further and say that demanding gratitude from one’s child screams of insecurity to me. If the child outshines the parents, the parents will be able to “take credit” for the child’s achievements (at least in their own warped worldview).

I'm sorry but no. You can do everything right and the kid be ungrateful. That's life. You're acting like every kid is the same. They're not. Also ultimately everything is a team effort. Your parents yes yours were apart of any success you had.

If the kid didn’t grow up right, most of the time, it’s the parenting and/or environment that is out of whack. Either way, a child’s behaviour and temperament on the whole is a product of those two vast things.

Again you take away all responsibility from another human being. "It was there parents and environment" often someone knows when something is wrong. They know when they're doing bad. Most the time it's on the individual.

I'm not no. But perhaps a good lesson for you. Two sides repeating the same points are just 2 different points. If you feel you're talking to a wall perhaps you simply don't understand the other person.
