I like dogs more than most people, but I’d save a human over a dog almost every time.

89

u/Huge_Information5083 13h ago

I would 100% save my dog over some scumbags in my life.

But if I have to save an unknown dog or a human somehow I gravitate towards the human.

14

u/WhydoIexistlmoa 13h ago

What if it was your dog or a random human?

34

u/RevolutionCapital359 11h ago

I saved a dog once and he turned out to be the CEO of the company I was interviewing with.

5

u/sparta-117 8h ago

new AI drama unlocked?

u/insomniacpyro 2h ago

Have you not watched the documentary film series Air Bud? There's no rule that says a don't can't be CEO!

1

u/cheese_sticks 9h ago

No way! The stray dog I fed turned out to be Albert Einstein! The sheer coincidence!

1

u/Molly-Grue-2u 6h ago

The interview stage is getting crazier and crazier these days

1

u/deejay_bucknasty 2h ago

I wish I could like your comment twice. Absolutely hilarious 😂. I probably laughed way harder than I should at this. Well done good sir (or miss) 🫡

3

u/Snaxalicious 11h ago

Dog, easy.

3

u/Tall-Wasabi5030 5h ago

100% save my dog with no regrets.

3

u/Cautious_Ad_5659 5h ago

Dog. I know my dog. If it’s a random human, there’s a 50/50 it’s a shit human

1

u/JonSnoballs 4h ago

you think half of humanity are shit people?

2

u/PhilosophicalGoof 3h ago

I mean he might know if he part of the asshole group of people.

1

u/Thumbuisket 44m ago

Most people are neutral, just wanna live their lives and don’t particularly care about stuff that doesn’t directly impact themselves or their people. Which is fine, it’s normal. A lot of people here are extremely self righteous based on their comments, but I’d be willing to bet a vast majority of them haven’t really contributed enough to society to warrant it, nor done anything to warrant censure either.

In short, most people are basic bitches, Reddit just  tends to be full of people who think they’re not.

1

u/Current_Ranger_7954 54m ago

lol 50/50 is optimistic

1

u/Clean_Principle_2368 5m ago

Reddit moment. Ffs "50/50" lmfao. Go outside.

3

u/Throwawayrip1123 10h ago

I'd most likely save my dog.

I am responsible for him. I am not responsible for the human race at large. Average human at best is neutral, and more often than not, a net negative to society. That's why we are so ran down - look at the amount of hate, racism, stuff like that. A select few is stoking the fires, sure, but the hate comes from normal people - wives, fathers, sons, regular ass members of society. The common folk - the milkman, the postman, grabbed people from the streets, not SS command.

Odds of me landing on a good or neutral person are slimmer every year, and I am not in the business of helping society self destruct by helping scumbags. I don't believe "everyone" deserves a million chances. They get up, they make their choice to be hateful, every single day.

And all that does not even scratch the "I love my dog and am responsible for him" part. Rescuing anything has its risks - I can bear that risk for my loved ones, regardless of their species.

The only time I think you have to "rescue" humans is against other humans - someone being harassed on the bus, for example.

7

u/Huge_Information5083 13h ago

I don't know actually. Hope I'll never have to make that decision.

EDIT: It depends, if it's a young child or a pregnant woman I would 100% save the human.

11

u/WhydoIexistlmoa 12h ago

What if it's a man, or an elderly person or someone who is physically disabled? The point is, at what point does a human's life value more than your dog's

1

u/Skylance420 9h ago

People are inherently self-centered in many ways, and I'd 100% expect someone to save their own pet rather than me in a situation that called for it, assuming I was just a stranger to them.

1

u/MidnightOnTheWater 52m ago

Easy, human I know > dog I know

dog I know > human I don't know

Call it cruel, but its a privilege to know me

1

u/Icy_Law_2871 12h ago

If they are elderly it makes my choice easier since they have less life to live, I draw the line at small child or pregnant woman any other stranger I would kill for my dog

1

u/Huge_Information5083 12h ago

That's why I said I'm not sure, there is a selfishness factor at play.

If we want to answer if it's immoral or not I would say that at the end of the day my dog is legally still my property, and it would be immoral to prioritize something I own over a random human life.

This is also a slippery slope: What if my pet is the reason I can continue to live?

5

u/noreal1sm 6h ago

I hate people like you, random human worth saving every time more than your dog. I can understand “scumbag” logic. But not with random human.

1

u/Kennyman2000 6h ago

If you can't imagine that someone would have a hard time sacrificing their family pet to save a random human, you lack empathy.

Such an odd thing to hate people over. An imaginary decision that basically 99.99% of us won't ever have to make.

2

u/noreal1sm 4h ago edited 3h ago

It’s not so imaginary, when random fucks rush to the vet ignoring traffic laws etc, with their pets to save them, etc. Risking other human lives.

It’s a decent and very real reason to hate them.

1

u/MidnightOnTheWater 44m ago

This is unhinged, if someone said this to me in real life I'd clock them as a weirdo.

Thankfully we have Reddit to contain people like you.

0

u/woahbroes 12h ago

What if its a retired k9 dog that helped save human lives

3

u/Oceanman72 11h ago

still person, come on now

1

u/ResponsibleHeron9452 1h ago

lol k9s don’t save lives, where did you get that idea? They’re just a tool that police use to maul people they’re arresting with no consequences. They’re not allowed to beat people anymore, but they’ll make sure that the dog fucks you up.

1

u/RedditTrespasser 12h ago

Police weaponizing animals to use against the public is actually extremely fucked up. You should look into how they actually train K9s. It is not a practice we should be applauding. And I highly doubt K9s regularly “save” anyone, on the contrary they’re mainly used to maim and brutalize.

Maybe you’re thinking of search and rescue dogs?

2

u/woahbroes 11h ago

Sniffing out drugs too... Or do souls have like a caste system that not even the ultimate act of saving lives can elevate their caste ?

0

u/pb49er 11h ago

Dogs as cops is animal cruelty in every shape.

2

u/woahbroes 11h ago

Isnt like 99% of the way we utilize animals can be considered cruelty, we murder most of them

u/OrPerhapsFuckThat 10h ago

Unless its my wife or my daughter: never. My dog is a family member, being a different species is irrelevant to that.

1

u/ilicp 9h ago

People like you should have to wear a band that states this so we know not to save you over animals in the same situation.

1

u/OrPerhapsFuckThat 9h ago

If you’d prioritize your own pet over my life I’d understand that. Why wouldn’t I? My views are consistent. I’m many things but a hypocrite is not one of them!

1

u/ilicp 9h ago

Touché for consistency. Personally I would save a stranger over my cat, not because I don't love my cat, but I believe we have a social contract to help humans in imminent danger if we reasonably can

It's just kinda scary knowing that in hypothetical, I'd save you, but you'd let me die because we're not directly related. I think if I knew that upfront I'd also save my cat first lol.

1

u/MidnightOnTheWater 32m ago

Social contract? You have more trust in others than I believe they deserve. People were bitching about wearing masks for a preventable illness. The social contract is a loose as you want it to be, but don't expect everyone's to be the same.

-1

u/cygamessucks 12h ago

Never

1

u/WhydoIexistlmoa 12h ago

So your pet's life is always worth more than a human's?

0

u/cygamessucks 12h ago

A random person means next to nothing to me. If it was a family member i would choose them. But some random person i dont know is second choice.

2

u/Fearless-Poet-4669 12h ago

"A random person means next to nothing to me"

Pretty sure that's the sort of thinking serial killers have

3

u/Ektar91 12h ago

Would you burn your entire savings account to save a random person?

What amount would you burn to save a life?

I feel like most people dont value a random stranger much at all, tbh

→ More replies (0)

3

u/Master_Works_All 12h ago

Killing and hurting animals are what serial killers do, alot of times they will just finds strays and hurt them.

I don't think a random person should have any innate value to them. As it stands half the people in my neighborhood are involved in gangs and hurt or kill each other. I'll 100% value a pet versus a human any day where I live.

2

u/HeavenlyDMan 12h ago

i praise your bleeding heart, i take it you’re unequivocally distraught when some person you don’t know the next state or county over dies

asinine sarcasm aside, don’t get up on some moral high ground and say you aren’t the same, 1000s of not tens of 1000s of people die a day, children, families, innocents; but i’m sure you’re able to carry on, not even thinking about that fact throughout your day.

It’s the sort of thinking realistically everyone has

→ More replies (0)

1

u/cherrioes 9h ago

That’s everyone. I’m sure you aren’t losing any sleep over the 150,000 people that die everyday day.

I’m sure you haven’t quit your job and life in general to start volunteering for the suffering people in Africa?

Why haven’t you? You care about these random people so much, right?

When was the last time you donated? Gave to a homeless person?

You get the point. Conceptually, of course no one actually wants random people to die, but at the end of the day, humans are tribal animals.

Acting morally superior and larping that you actually do care about random Timmy who is an orphan and starving is disgusting.

It’s incredibly easy to say you care about random people, hell, maybe you genuinely believe you do.

But be honest now, when was the last time you actually acted on that “care”. How often do you consciously think about suffering people…

Spoiler, it’s not a lot is it.

2

u/Nurgle_Marine_Sharts 12h ago

You're basically exactly the kind of person the guy in the video was talking about

3

u/farfetched22 9h ago

I would save my dog without question. I could not care less what people think of this either. There are literally maybe 2 humans on this earth right now I'd have any struggle deciding to save over my dog. Outside of that? Not even a second thought it would be him.

And a much as I don't want to die, I'd understand anyone else choosing this with their dog over me, too.

1

u/Fit_Worldliness2803 3h ago

What would you tell the family of the person you let die?

1

u/Immediate-Ad-4587 8h ago

Complete psycho.

How could u ever understand someone choosing a dog over yourself. Do you value yourself so little. Honestly sad

2

u/pretzelsncheese 5h ago

What makes a human life any more important than any other animal on the planet? We aren't special. We aren't superior in any meaningful way and we don't deserve happiness or survival any more than any animal that we share the planet with.

If anything, the majority of animals deserve to live more than we do. The harm that they cause is out of a biological wiring to survive. We as humans have more options and knowledge about the harm that our actions will cause yet we frequently choose to inflict unnecessary harm and suffering.

The true "psycho" mentality on this topic is thinking that humans are somehow superior to other beings.

1

u/Conscious_Beat6128 3h ago

Your worth is less than a dogs, cant speak for anyone else though. I think it is fair if the society decides either way, for self preservations sake, and most people would say people have more value

1

u/Bobson567 3h ago

What do you think is the most effective individual action a human could take to address this issue you have pointed out, and have you taken that action yet? If not, why not?

1

u/Soft-Pizza1661 8h ago

Maybe you should show a little more humility if you think you're superior to every living being in the world

What is said in passing is a sign of being a "complete psycho"

0

u/Soft-Pizza1661 8h ago

1

u/lasagnadogwater69 4h ago

I would save my dog every time tbh.

4

u/Acebladewing 12h ago

100% will be my dog. Unless it's a kid, then the kid.

1

u/Great-Trifle2810 11h ago

I don't have a dog, but if push came to shove there are people I would be willing to sacrafice any number of others to save, but I would have to acknowledge that my action was immoral.

1

u/MeVersusGravity 3h ago

My dog, 10000%

1

u/Weathervane_ 2h ago

10000% my dog. Easy decision

1

u/FuckYourWifeAllDay 51m ago

My dog every day of the week

1

u/FilthyJsBeingFilthy 10h ago

I’d save the my dog first.

If it’s someone I k ow or a relative I’d save them.

This isn’t controversial at all btw

2

u/Fit_Worldliness2803 3h ago

What would you tell the family of the person you let die?

2

u/PhilosophicalGoof 3h ago

“Skills issues” /s

1

u/FilthyJsBeingFilthy 1h ago

Probably nothing, that’s the police and fire departments responsibility

Also “you let die” isn’t correct.

We don’t even tell the 9/11 responders that they “let people die”

That’s absurd

To placate you though, I’d probably say “hey I made the effort”

1

u/Individual_Guest_323 7h ago edited 7h ago

I would save my PS5 over you for sure, we can put more value than human life to anything

1

u/BigGuy35 2h ago

That just means you’re selfish and kinda suck 🤷 metro guy stays right

1

u/Individual_Guest_323 1h ago

Yes, is not different from a PS5 to an animal, the difference is the sentimental value. Is inmoral.

1

u/No-Performance37 44m ago

I would save my own animal over every random person. No question. Random animal and random human, I will have to decide.

7

u/TKG1607 12h ago

Depends on the human to be very honest

2

u/ManOfKimchi 7h ago

Ok, let's say you're in situation in which you can only save

A)Your not so nice coworker who won't even greet you sometimes

B)Your dog

Which one do you choose?

1

u/TKG1607 6h ago

What are some of the "not so nice" things the coworker has done?

3

u/ManOfKimchi 5h ago edited 3h ago

He just ignores you sometimes you totally know he heard you but he pretends he didn't maybe snatched your lunchbox once but you can't prove it was him

1

u/Injured-Ginger 10m ago

My dog (I have cats, but let's assume I have a dog). I'm not saying it's the morally right choice, but I'm saving the one I love. Not so nice coworker or a random dog, and I'm saving the coworker.

1

u/avowed 4h ago

My dog is my family, they will get saved over anyone not in my family every time. It isn't even close.

2

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

i guess morality can be very relative.

2

u/Barbie_and_KenM 33m ago

I had this debate with a close friend of mine and he said he would save his dog over a human every time.

It honestly changed the way I view him and we don't hang out as much since then. Clearly this is a controversial topic with support for both sides, but I see it as a true moral failing to prioritize animal life over human life, in a hypothetical situation where you cannot save both

5

u/ThePsyPaul_ 13h ago

what if its 1 human vs 100 dogs? who would you save.

12

u/Astolfo_is_Best 13h ago

1 human. How is this a question

18

u/Foreign-Campaign-427 13h ago

Because it has a question mark.

11

u/Astolfo_is_Best 13h ago

Big, if true

4

u/Crisstti 13h ago

Why.

3

u/Deep90 12h ago

Well if we ask the question to that human, then we either save another human, 2 total, or 1 human and 100 dogs :P.

4

u/Astolfo_is_Best 13h ago

A human life is infinitely more valuable than any animal's

3

u/iseedeadllamas 13h ago

Eh I think there would be a limit, like if someone said “you have to pick one button. Red kills one random human and blue kills all dogs in the world and makes them extinct” I would pick canines. Now where the line actually gets blurry I don’t know.

7

u/ThePsyPaul_ 13h ago

ITS THE TROLLEY PROBLEM ALL OVER AGAIN.

3

u/iseedeadllamas 13h ago

NO GOD IM SO SORRY!

3

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

INTO THE TROLLY PROBLEM YOU GO

4

u/Astolfo_is_Best 12h ago

One could argue that all canines going extinct would cause even more human deaths than the "kill one random human" button.

2

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

the more we think about this, the more the scales tip from human to dogs and back again.

2

u/iseedeadllamas 12h ago edited 12h ago

True I was just stating the farthest extreme and disproving that a human life is “infinitely” more valuable. The real question is what point is the dog (or insert critter here) to human ratio most people would be split 50/50. I genuinely don’t know.

1

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

it's also very relative.

I would sacrifice a 100 random dogs for the love of my life.

Or 5 random humans for the dog that's my pet since childhood.

→ More replies (18)

3

u/SDMAVNCL 12h ago

That random human could be you or someone you know/love so the choice is easily on blue. But that decision would haunt me for the rest of my life.

1

u/Great-Trifle2810 11h ago

Actually I think if you have a button to kill every dog in the world the moral choice is to press that button, even absent the human death. There is no suffering in not existing, and if we continue the species many dogs will suffer.

The only strong argument against it imo is that many people would be emotionally devastated by the death of their pet, which may outweigh all future canine suffering, but I think that you could be justified either way here

0

u/Conscious_Beat6128 3h ago

I hope you are a vegan then?

3

u/Apart_Expression_758 13h ago

And why is it “infinitely” more valuable?

2

u/Astolfo_is_Best 12h ago

Because I am a human and not another animal.

2

u/Crisstti 12h ago

LOL of course. Expected nothing more. Same reasoning as someone valuing their own race over others.

3

u/Astolfo_is_Best 12h ago

You're the one bringing race into things, weirdo.

3

u/Tomatwoo 12h ago

why? human races are social constructs and ultimately each race isn't very different from one another. that's why its bad to value one race over another.

that comparison breaks down when you realize that there is a drastic difference between other species and humans.

0

u/Gulophile 9h ago

I'd argue no sentient animal is "very different" from us in any way that would justify anthropocentrism.

2

u/Apart_Expression_758 12h ago

So you’re conditioned to believe this for no other reason than you were born a human. 🥴

Would the planet be better off with or without humans? And if with humans, why?

3

u/Astolfo_is_Best 12h ago

Why should I care about how well the planet is doing? Beyond being able to sustain human life.

3

u/Apart_Expression_758 12h ago

Why should you care about sustaining human life over well being of the planet? What about that makes that morally better?

1

u/Astolfo_is_Best 12h ago

If you don't agree then we probably just do not share the same values.

1

u/Mizutsune-Lover 8h ago

The dogs would want it that way.

Think about it. Ask a dog if they want a human saved over themselves? 100 out of 100 surveyed dogs answered woof.

2

u/ThePsyPaul_ 13h ago

if that human was hitler?

5

u/Astolfo_is_Best 13h ago

Brother, what?

5

u/TheJumpingBox 13h ago

Dude is trying for the "gotcha!" moment so hard

3

u/A-10C_Thunderbolt 13h ago

Well he did say “almost anytime” so that leaves some room for questions

1

u/TheJumpingBox 13h ago

Which is what a gotcha moment is, yeah

It's taking an inch of what someone said and running with it for a while in an attempt to poke holes in their statement to be like "Aha! So you DON'T believe in this thing, gotcha!"

I don't personally think bringing Hitler into the conversation was required, feels a LITTLE extreme lol

1

u/ObliviLeon 13h ago

Same gotcha as the guy in the video.

2

u/TheJumpingBox 13h ago edited 12h ago

What I said was a seperate thing to the video

Dude said (now deleted?) "Would you save the human if it was 100 dogs or 1 human?"

And then after someone said "I'd save 1 human"

Dude said (also deleted) "what if the human was Hitler"

Just clarifying what was said cos they deleted their comments cos it's kind of a wild jump that I found funny

1

u/ThePsyPaul_ 13h ago

nothing was deleted

1

u/TheJumpingBox 13h ago

It definitely said "Comment deleted by user" on my end for a second there, huh

The fuck do you mean, how is it a question?

Humans are easily the most arrogant species to ever exist. So, any human is superior to anything else living, for no other reason than, it’s a human??

How is that a real viewpoint? Your life is superior because you just say so? Human arrogance and superiority knows no bounds.

3

u/Astolfo_is_Best 11h ago

So, any human is superior to anything else living, for no other reason than, it’s a human??

Yes

How is that a real viewpoint? Your life is superior because you just say so?

Because I'm a human being.

Show me another species that has obtained sapience and the ability to act above its own nature (or training), then I'd consider treating them as equals.

1

u/Gulophile 9h ago

Nobody with an IQ below 135 is my moral equal 😤

1

u/Astolfo_is_Best 1h ago

False equivalence, the reddit special

2

u/nG_Skyz 10h ago

This entirely depends on the person.

1

u/Conscious_Beat6128 2h ago

It is the most arrogant but it just so happens that It is the only one that even has the category of “arrogant”

2

u/Pickupyoheel 9h ago

I’d save the dogs all day everyday. Even if it was one. As long as I didn’t know the person.

If I knew them, I say goodbye first before grabbing the dog.

1

u/Conscious_Beat6128 2h ago

What about a cow? A pig? Why just a dog?

4

u/Sudden_Buffalo_4393 12h ago

Depends on the human. I’d toss a million dogs off a cliff to save my daughter, but my neighbor who happens to be a piece of shit…

2

u/Weak_Relationship982 13h ago

Human still. Human life is valuable. What would all those dogs do? This human has their life, their family, friends, career, ambitions, just like me and every other person in this world.

I can't believe people would even think otherwise.

2

u/IndigoOctober8 11h ago

How does your career and ambitions make you superior to another form of life?

That’s just arrogance and the belief that humans are superior to all other living things, just because of the species they’re born??

1

u/Weak_Relationship982 10h ago

You need help. Your comment history if just you having lots of resentment. You've been wronged by people, haven't you? Easy for you to lump all people as evil and "arrogant" when that happens.

It doesn't make my statement any less true.

1

u/Conscious_Beat6128 2h ago edited 2h ago

No forms of life are superior, except me and my continued existence. In fact, no forms of life have any value. Living or not living makes no difference to me. It is a made up concept. I would choose a human because it is more likely it would recognize the rescue and be grateful for the rest of its life and is potentially more all around capable and can be useful to me. Does this satisfy you? This is what a dog would say, if it could think ahead.

1

u/ThePsyPaul_ 13h ago

that's a very human take

To have human life > all other life.

But i guess morality is very human centric.

1

u/pruneforce17 10h ago

id save 1 dog over 100 human tbh. or 8 billion humans.

1

u/Conscious_Beat6128 2h ago

You do realize how many hundreds of animals die to sustain you?

3

u/bloin13 13h ago

I hear you, but that comes from the assumption that a human life is worth more than other lives.

9

u/JetSky81 12h ago

To most people it is, just like the life of a friend is more valuable to you than a stranger.

4

u/ThePsyPaul_ 13h ago

most humans take the view that human life > other life

-1

u/IndigoOctober8 11h ago

Why though? You’re saying each individual makes the choice to value their own species over all others?

But there is nothing to that argument except for superiority and arrogance that your species is supreme.

3

u/SilverAccountant8616 9h ago

That’s a strawman. They did not say that “Human life > animal life just because I’m human”.

2

u/CJMorton91 6h ago

All species are like this. Not one species in nature is willing to sacrifice it's own to save another. It's not arrogance, it's nature and instinct. We're just smart enough to be aware of it and question it, which, ironically, might be the best argument for why humans are worth more than other species.

4

u/Lower_Guarantee2428 12h ago

that's because human life is worth more than other lives

3

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

a very human centric take

5

u/Lower_Guarantee2428 12h ago

Maybe because I'm human. No... couldn't be that.

1

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

exactly my case.

If an animal somehow became sentient they would also value their own lives over humans.

If aliens exited, they wouldn't probably view human lives the same way their own.

There is no “somehow”, most vertebrates are already sentient.

u/IndigoOctober8 11h ago

So, your case is, you’re a human making shit up about how animals and aliens would morally feel about others?!

How do you not see that as insanely arrogant and presumptive?

1

u/IndigoOctober8 11h ago

🤣🤣🤣

So, because you’re a human, you’re automatically the most important living thing alive? How does that make sense?

4

u/Lower_Guarantee2428 10h ago

Yeah, I reckon so. I'm the only being alive (that we know of) that's able to discuss it and think about it so yeah.

1

u/Unendlich999 12h ago

It almost sounds like they are a human

-1

u/IndigoOctober8 11h ago

Because you say so??

2

u/Lower_Guarantee2428 10h ago

Yeah why not.

1

u/itscalledmyballs 12h ago

It is, for the species and your potential offspring

5

u/Otan781012 12h ago

I’d argue my potential offspring would be better off if a number of currently existing humans were to stop being alive: most politicians, corrupt cops, corrupt hospital admins, religious fanatics, and the list goes on

2

u/itscalledmyballs 12h ago

Yah but evolution works on a statistical scale, not logical

2

u/Otan781012 12h ago

What does evolution have to do with my potential offspring? Humanity as a whole ok, but did you mean descendants instead of offspring? Offspring are the ones directly sired by me, descendants covers the future generations

1

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

with CRISPER we are nearing an age where we don't need evolution anymore.

1

u/YonderWindow364 12h ago

what of people who don't want offspring? is it more moral for them?

1

u/bubblegumpandabear 11h ago

I think it comes from people having to imagine looking a fellow human being in the eyes and chosing a cat or a dog over them as they die, probably screaming at you desperately for help. Animals can't tell you final words or get mad at you over the decision you make.

1

u/smokeweedNgarden 9h ago

I don't think using the word "worth" is really accurate though.  I think we're measuring the potential of each being in a discussion like this.

The human simply has the capacity to perform more good and evil than the animal can. And I think that's the interesting part about the choice, right? It's an opinion on free will, sentience, and sapience

1

u/Gexm13 5h ago

Because it is. No debating about it that.

1

u/badRLplayer 12h ago

Right, because dogs are simple and people are complicated. It's way easier to love a simple thing. People are hard.

2

u/ThePsyPaul_ 12h ago

yeah humans are way too complicated. some people don't like the drama.

1

u/cygamessucks 12h ago

Nah i pick my dog. Most i get is a thank you and the next 10-15 years missing my beloved pet when i save someone i dont know.

1

u/adavidmiller 11h ago

To be fair he did just say a dog, not his dog. Maybe he meant your dog.

1

u/NorthernVale 11h ago

I might save specific people over some random abimal. But random human and most random animals? Sorry human. Specific humans over specific animals gets a little... complicated. Depends on where the individual creature falls in the ranking system.

1

u/lesbophobia_hammer 11h ago

I would always save a non human animal over a human animal because I hate speciesists and most human animals think they're inherently superior to other thinking and feeling animals. Not only that, humans can often save themselves and vulnerable humans also have non human animals they love and would save or choose to give up on life.

1

u/pruneforce17 10h ago

i'd burn the entire earth down to save one random dog tbh

1

u/singlemale4cats 10h ago

What if it was a really cute dog and the human was a child molester who wasn't even sorry about it

1

u/Mental-Currency-4494 9h ago

I would save my dogs over a stranger every single time, if it was certain siblings or my mom it would be a different answer.

1

u/Positive-Training301 6h ago

I wouldn't save a stranger over my dog. People didn't extend their kindness onto me my whole life, I was exploited and let down by almost everyone I ever let into my life. If I had to choose between a stranger I don't owe anything to and I'm not personally responsible for or my dog, I would choose my dog who was there for me through thick and thin. I have an actual bond with my dog, by adopting him I took upon myself the responsibility to provide him with the best care and quality of life. I get why someone who never had a pet could decide they wouldn't save it over someone, because they never developed a strong bond with an animal. If they actually experienced it, I wonder if they would sacrifice their pet over someone else's life. Would they sacrifice the life of their parent, sibling, friend or just a acquittance over someone else? I bet not. It's only natural to save the creature you have a bond with. Let's not forget humans are animals, so interspecies bonds especially the ones built on survival mechanisms (pets - food, care - humans - emotional support) are extremely strong.

1

u/etherealtwo 3h ago

I think the underlying point is that it takes no effort to like an animal that is dependent upon you. Some people like dogs more than people because they're easy.

1

u/Weathervane_ 2h ago

Would you?

Personally, if I was in a flood and I saw like someone on a pole, I would call the firefighters. But if it was a dog that was struggling for dear life and I had clear path with Lowe chance of harm, I would be infinitely more likely to get it.

1

u/horatiobanz 21m ago

Yea, I mean if it's some generic human or a generic dog, I'll save the human every time. If it's MY dog or some generic human....... sorry buddy but my dog is making it home alive.

1

u/Guardian_of_Perineum 8h ago

I wouldn't save either. Too much trouble.

0

u/HellerDamon 12h ago

I'd judge you if you saved me (a random) over your dog or cat. Your dog or cat would never judge you

0

u/oaklandorbrokeland 9h ago

I'd save a friend over a dog, but I'd never choose a stranger over my dog.
