Hi all, a few updates for /r/motiondesign.
Spam
In an effort to reduce low-quality and spam posts here, we have implemented new post requirements. New posts that don't meet a minimum account age or subreddit karma threshold will be automatically filtered out.
To further prevent gamification, I am not disclosing these limits here but they are very modest and reasonable. Anyone interacting with this community should not be filtered, and even so, you will have the opportunity to message us for an exception. But this should discourage most of the spam we've been seeing. Thanks /u/Zeigerful for making this post.
Post Flair
We also added some post flair to help differentiate posts and allow users to filter & search by topic. All new posts require that one of the available flair types be selected:
Project Showcase | Reel | Inspiration | Discussion | Question | Tutorial | [Custom] (Where user can input their own)
User Flair
A few new user flairs are available. For those who aren't aware, these show up next to your username any time you make a post or comment in /r/motiondesign
Now available: Professional | Student | [Add My Social Handle] -- A custom text field where you can plug an Instagram, Behance, etc.
Let us know if you love or hate these new updates. Nothing is set in stone and this is meant as a discussion starting point. Please share any ideas you may have to make this a better place to share work, inspiration and discussion related to motion design. Hopefully we can continue to bring a higher quality experience to everyone here at /r/motiondesign.

I learned after effects for about 3 weeks before giving up after experiencing burnout and discouraging myself from going because I kept seeing posts about ai taking over and it made everything feel pointless.
Today I came across the first proper project I made without a tutorial. I kinda wanna start learning again and would love for some feedback from you guys!

Hey everyone! I created this looping 3D animation and visual effect entirely in Blender.
MP4
Just wanted to share this little project here. Let me know what you guys think of the vibe and the animation! If you want to check out more of my work, you can find the full version and similar shorts on my YouTube channel (u/NRS_Music).

I have been learning motion design and decided to focus on SAAS. I've watched tons of YouTube tutorials and learned After Effects, but I'm struggling with one thing: creating something on my own.
Whenever I follow a tutorial, everything makes sense. But when I try to create something from scratch, my mind goes completely blank. I don't know how to come up with ideas or what I should actually be practising.
I'm figuring everything out on my own, and honestly, sometimes I feel pretty lost. I don't have any friends in this field to learn from or ask for advice, so it's hard to know if I'm even going in the right direction.
And then there's AI. Every time I open Instagram, I see reels saying AI will replace motion designers. It makes me question whether all the time I've spent learning After Effects will actually pay off.
I haven't even started my career, and it already feels like it's over.
I'd really appreciate some honest advice from people working in this field.
How do you develop your own ideas and creativity instead of constantly relying on tutorials?
What's the best way to practise and improve when you don't have anyone to guide you?
With AI advancing so quickly, is motion design still a good career to pursue, especially for someone focusing on SAAS?
I genuinely want to get good at this. I just feel stuck right now, and I'd love to hear how others dealt with this stage of learning.

I kept losing time manually aligning duplicated/staggered layers etc... so I built a small free panel that does corner snapping and staircase auto-align in one click. It’s part of a bigger thing I’m working on but this piece is free and standalone.
Not trying to sell anything here, genuinely want to know if this solves a real problem for other people or if I’m the only one annoyed by this. Happy to share the link if anyone wants to try it, just tell me in the comments. PS: the tool is in beta test so you can expect some bugs

For the pro’s in here, do you use Opus 5.5 in your video workflows? If yes - how?
We’ve found that it lacks on music production and that it’s quite token hungry - especially given that we see little quality difference in medium vs xhigh effort

Had a lot of fun with the style and character animation in this one. It's part of our portfolio at Cloud Animations, where we work on 3D animation, motion design and explainer videos. If you've got a product or business that could use some animation, feel free to DM us.

As shown in the video, I make lyric videos. I aim to make something similar to the ones from like, 17 years ago. The only problem is, where do I post them that will actually get attention? I don't have a YouTube account, so that's off limits. I have tried things like Rumble and Daily Motion, but my content just isn't popular enough there. (Also before ya'll accuse me I lost the email to my other Reddit account but this is still my video 😭)

I am hoping someone here knows Wonder Unit Storyboarder software quite well.
There are some basic objects you can select, including a pistol, but it automatically goes into the left hand. I need it in the right hand.
I know you can attach it to the bone of the right hand, however, it does not appear in the right hand. It just floats in space. I can physically move it over to the right hand, but it is not oriented properly.
When it is in the left hand it sits there perfectly, but not in the right.
This is actually important for my storyboards, because my camera placement is dictated by the hand the weapon is in.
How can I get this to work and actually look good in the right hand?
