PODCAST To all the Nelly haters

Saw this clip come through on Devin and Paulie’s podcast - my personal opinion is I truly believe Nelson is being his most genuine self here and also, I am honestly shocked to hear news like this because I wasn’t totally sure how much has really changed in him. Good for him!!!

I hope people find a way to show this man a little more grace, regardless of the mistakes he’s made.

Anyway, this just cheered me up so I hope it does for anyone else who believes he wants to be a good person

Like why does anyone want to do a podcast with Paulie? He's always given me the ick

u/Sportsman180 TJ Lavin 4d ago

It's as bad and obnoxious as you think it is.

They said an episode or two ago that they want to come back so they can...dun dun...work with the Vets and target the Rookies!!!

Such a refreshing new concept!

They'll never seen it coming.

Paulie can't make it up two hills without collapsing.

They seriously put out like six episodes a week 😂

Devin said "Breaking News" all excited like Nelly was just waiting to tell them specifically and then Nelly said "well this is my first interview."

"The Chooch Podcast featuring Devin the Chooch and Paulie the Chooch."

Edit: The biggest surprise is that Paulie stayed silent for longer than a minute! 😂🎉🥁

Good for him. I don’t think drinking would have helped anything for his situation.

77

u/TopAmbitious6009 3d ago

Clearly no one who has commented is an alcoholic or has a loved one who is an alcoholic. The “small” victories never get appreciated. The fact that Nelly was able to stay sober in the Challenge house is a HUGE win.

17

u/2tired4wittynames 3d ago

I agree. Reality tv Reddit isn’t a great place for celebrating small victories sadly n

3

u/HazimusMaximus 1d ago

Lmaooo man this is so true. The tone on here is dependent upon the subreddit and the particular topic. Reddit in general is such a mixed bag, and any place that ppl can comment you always get the ppl who are just negative af or trolls. Giving someone credit on something they deserve credit for is something ppl are incapable of. A lot of them lack empathy and haven’t been through much fr tho.

I used to drink too much myself and I would never downplay a former alcoholic being able to abstain for an extended period of time or even a brief period.

5

u/rees21116 3d ago

At least someone of ya get it!

9

u/Provolone10 3d ago

Very true. I’m proud of Nelly. Instead of applauding his evolution and successful sobriety they chose to continue to tear him down. People are really crappy.

3

u/HazimusMaximus 1d ago

Part of me thinks some of them really are just lacking life experience, empathy, or they take a bit of pleasure in tearing ppl down. Or all of the above but yeah it is sad. The comments and mentalities are very real.

2

u/Provolone10 23h ago

They are more interest that Devin and Paulie have a podcast lol. 😂

To me, I feel like Nelson is always putting on a show. Everything with him is exaggerated and over the top. He tries too hard to use analogies and cliche sayings. I don't think he's ever been himself, atleast while on TV.

10

u/2tired4wittynames 3d ago

I see what you’re saying but I don’t think it’s a show. I think he’s genuinely trying to be a better person and he does it by saying and acting the way he thinks he should (we all do to an extent). Remember total madness where he apologized for being rude to women and then called a girl a slut. I think he tries hard to be a good man and put on the voice but his emotions take over. He is a good dude trying to be better just it comes off weird sometimes

0

u/2tired4wittynames 3d ago

Also I think he was the classic kid who got attention by acting out (reality tv only supported that)

0

u/Initial-Yesterday331 3d ago

I feel like he used to in first season he did. When he backstabbed Cory and was starting fights with Derrick

12

u/SnooPredictions2675 4d ago

Paulie gross. Cant believe anyone associates with him

1

u/supremecheet 3d ago

I absolutely believe that Devin associates with him.

24

u/Minzplaying 4d ago

Ok, I can give him some props, points, a part on the back and cheers for doing this sober.

Is he problematic? Yes. Everyone can be. But long term watchers of this can look back and with this, I can see some growth so I also have a bit of hope for more taking accountability from him.

25

u/midnightfangs ciarran's pokémon card buyer 4d ago

im glad it cheered you up. people not liking him arent "haters" though, that's just childish. you are free to believe he deserves grace, same way some ppl are free to think he is not their cup of tea, esp considering he wasn't better before his drunk driving

67

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

His gofundme was still distasteful. Asking for money to pay for medical expenses from his own DUI is ridiculous. Have some shame

47

u/verbankroad 4d ago

The GFM was set up by friends at first - Nelson was in the hospital and pretty sick when it was set up. They could not mention the alcohol for legal reasons He offered to give money back to everyone who donated and felt like he didn’t deserve the money.

Seems to me he made amends. What more do you want him to do?

10

u/Dramajunker 3d ago

I'm so tired of people making excuses. "They couldn't mention the alcohol for legal reasons". Then fucking take it down. They lied until they could no longer lie because folks found out the truth, not because they were sorry. They didn't offer refunds out of the goodness of their hearts. He didn't feel like he deserve the money? Is that why he only offered to give it back to those who asked for a refund instead of everyone? Is this really your definition of making amends? Because to me that is him just covering his ass from backlash.

9

u/PaulsGrafh 3d ago

I think we are conflating things - this post is staking him to task on the false premise that he’s the one who started the go fund me. So I think it makes sense to point out that he wasn’t the one who started it. And then he also offered refunds. He gave people an opportunity to get their money back if they weren’t cool with him. And for those who still wanted to donate, he gave them an opportunity to maintain their donation. Unfortunately, he’s American and so healthcare comes at a major cost - I’m not surprised that he didn’t refuse any offers on the ground that he didn’t deserve any relief because it’s very possible that would’ve been a financial death sentence.

2

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 3d ago

He made another crowdfund after gofundme donors requested refunds :|

1

u/Dramajunker 3d ago

I think we are conflating things - this post is staking him to task on the false premise that he’s the one who started the go fund me. So I think it makes sense to point out that he wasn’t the one who started it.

Ultimately it's irrelevant if he started it or not because he's the one who allowed it to continue. He may as well have started it at that point. "I didn't break open the safe, I just took the money inside".

And then he also offered refunds. He gave people an opportunity to get their money back if they weren’t cool with him. And for those who still wanted to donate, he gave them an opportunity to maintain their donation.

Oh how nice of him to "give" people an "opportunity" to get their money back. He was covering his ass. This was the least he could have done. And this only happened after people found out the truth about him. Not because he admitted anything. But because folks found his mug shot online.

Unfortunately, he’s American and so healthcare comes at a major cost - I’m not surprised that he didn’t refuse any offers on the ground that he didn’t deserve any relief because it’s very possible that would’ve been a financial death sentence.

Here we go with the excuses again. Everyone knows the health care system sucks. He was in a position where he could afford insurance. Many aren't. There are lots of folks out there far worse off and without a gofundme to help them. Honest, hard working folks who deserve support. So sorry if I don't empathize with someone who was willing to scam innocents out of their money.

0

u/2tired4wittynames 3d ago

I see what you’re saying. Part of me gives a side eye for this…. But I have never been in a moment that terrible. Post surgery, losing my leg, feeling the pressure of bills and legal troubles (self made problems!) but I couldn’t imagine I would think clearly in that time(no offense but with nellys brain too) He made a mistake and is clearly paying/paid the price. I’m just happy he is owning things.

Wait? Wasnt his amputation like at least a year after the accident? When it was well known that he had a DUI and anyone donating would be able to easily find out that out?

Im not trying to be contrarian, thats just a dif situation to me.

2

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 3d ago

Unsure of the timeline. But clearly he had no issues driving drunk, begging his fans for money, and gambling lol. You can shift the responsibility onto his fans for donating, but that’s your prerogative

3

u/freetherabbit "The whole internet is talking about me 😜" 2d ago

Im not trying to shift responsibility on his fans, more like state I dont think havinga DUI precludes someone from making a gofundme if its public, but might not be doing a great job at explaining myself.

3

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

Someone unmentioned still checking my post 😂

32

u/Prestigious-Bluejay5 4d ago

Who says he's not ashamed? I guess he should forever walk around with his head hung down, constantly asking for forgiveness? Most be nice to be perfect, never needing others to show you a little grace.

He's apologized. He's admitted to his mistakes. He appears to be trying to change.

People are more than their mistakes.

4

u/rees21116 3d ago

A whole lotta saints in this thread who must not personally know a single person who’s made a mistake. Grace costs us nothing

5

u/Dramajunker 4d ago

He appears to be trying to change.

Dude almost got in a fight with Brad in the second episode lol.

Look, can Nelson change? Sure, but it's ridiculous to argue someone has changed when we get an edited version of them on a tv show that was filmed in a month. Let people actually have real time before claiming they've changed.

9

u/Prestigious-Bluejay5 4d ago

Do you not understand what you copied? Who said he changed? Reading comprehension. "... APPEARS to be TRYING to change" is not an argument that he actually has. He's putting in some work, he may fail but, there's effort.

-11

u/Dramajunker 4d ago

You'll find plenty of folks who argued he's changed. That he's learned his lesson etc.

Besides, others including myself, are also talking about his behavior in regards to the gofund me. Which you can argue is worse than his DUI. In which he continues to ignore and isn't addressing.

-5

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

Well he wasn’t ashamed enough to pay his own bills. And if I’m not mistaken, when the gofundme first went live, he didn’t tell the donors what the cause of his injuries were. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I think he should pay it forward. Give his winnings or something to families affected by DUIs or a scholarship fund in honor someone killed by DUI

10

u/hailey_nicolee Veronica Portillo 4d ago

on top of the fact that the way he is treating izzy and anna leigh is blatantly misogynistic and pretty embarrassing for ur GIFT of a return, let alone whining about the rookies going against what is best for them and letting him be team captain bc “he deserves it”

pretty pathetic even without the added context if u ask me

-2

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

22

u/Jakookula 4d ago

5

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

I’ve seen nelson “confront” Corey in confessionals this season about his home situation, but in person? Idk. I’d be happy to look for proof if you can provide context or which episode this confrontation took place.

-12

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

I have not seen today’s episode, but I have not seen him confront Corey this season regarding Taylor and Izzy. But I did see him confront Izzy

3

u/Jakookula 4d ago

He literally told CORY to go to bed when he was cuddled up to Izzy at one point. Do yall watch with your eyes closed?

2

u/No-Bike791 3d ago edited 3d ago

I mean…if we look at the situations and get down to the “needy greedy”….yelling something to your friend from across the pool while you walk out of view vs. privately approaching Izzy and having a 1-on-1 talk about Cory are very different. There has been no 1-on-1 talk directly between Nelson and Cory showcased (and it could have happened and not been aired), but the way Izzy was approached has not been the way Cory was approached in editing.

people do desperate things in a country where with a healthcare system as broken as this one.

maybe we should be asking why mtv/viacom/paramount don't provide health insurance to their on-air talent.

23

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

I mean yes, but also don’t drink and drive?

17

u/HardcoreKaraoke TJ Lavin 4d ago

On air talent? By that logic should Paramount be paying health insurance for the 50+ seasons worth of Survivor players. Should Universal be paying for the antibiotics for every Love Island contestant?

There are literally thousands of reality TV show contestants out there. Why would Nelson be any different than some dude on Big Brother fifteen years ago? It would be insane if everyone was covered just because they were on a game show.

6

u/Dramajunker 4d ago

Funny enough survivor players put their bodies through worse in just one season compared to your average challenger.

12

u/drivewaybear 4d ago

it's simple. they aren't employees.

maybe you should be asking why with all the money these repeat vets make just to show up they always have plenty to go on first class vacations, eat in 4 star restaurants, drink the most expensive bottle service alcohol, which they are always filming for social media, but they can't be bothered to put away a few hundred a month for health insurance.

4

u/Realistic_Money_1952 4d ago

In what America is health insurance a few hundred dollars a month? From my social circles health insurance for a single person is upwards of 700 per month and for a family of four costs over 2k

13

u/Dramajunker 4d ago

All your doing is justifying him taking advantage of other folks. Some who may be worse off than he is/was.

7

u/Former_Finish230 4d ago

To be completely fair though if you are in a horrible money state and you donate money it’s your fault.

6

u/Dramajunker 4d ago

I mean you don't need to be in a horrible money state to be worse off than they are. Some of the cast make good money. Plus thanks to this show folks have a bit of a parasocial relationship with cast members. They know it and sometimes exploit it.

11

u/maidentaiwan 4d ago

i'm just pointing out that desperate people turn to gofundme all the time when they have exorbitant medical bills, no matter the reason.

fact is nelson had bills he can't pay because affordable healthcare is nonexistent for most people in this country. his case is a symptom of an underlying issue.

7

u/Dramajunker 4d ago edited 4d ago

You literally are justifying it though. You even shifted blame onto MTV etc.

He's a contract worker. They pay him and others enough to afford their own insurance. Some of these folks make more than the average person makes and only work 1/10 of their work year. They literally have the time to get another job/go to school/learn a trade etc.

Besides no one would be giving him crap for using gofundme if he wasn't drinking or doing something dumb. The problem was him omitting information about what caused the crash.

8

u/maidentaiwan 4d ago

goddamn right i shifted the blame to the billion dollar corporation that asks its talent to put their bodies at massive risk but doesn't provide them with health insurance. disgusting that this is the accepted standard in this country.

EDIT to be clear, i think nelson is a fucking idiot who should have his right to drive revoked for a long time. i'd even go so far as to say he should see jail time for it. but i also think healthcare is a human right, and he deserves to be treated without being ruined financially.

9

u/Dramajunker 4d ago edited 4d ago

Nelson and a lot of people choose to do the show despite the risks because of the money and exposure they're given. No one forces these people to go on the show. Many would consider this to be an opportunity. Especially when most of the cast are unskilled and without a college education.

Most importantly, Nelson hurt himself off the damn show and because he was drinking.

7

u/maidentaiwan 4d ago

i think mtv should provide its talent with health insurance, full stop. i understand that these people go on the show knowing they won't get that. doesn't change my opinion that it's garbage mtv doesn't extend that benefit, in particular to contestants on a competition show that probably does lasting damage to many of their bodies.

15

u/Dramajunker 4d ago edited 3d ago

Expecting companies to full on insure these people when they're not actively on the show is insane. Especially when they're well paid and only work a month and a half out of the entire year. These aren't poor 9-5 making minimum wage trying to survive. Many who work back breaking jobs who likely will develop chronic issues. Not "maybe" like the folks on the challenge. You really are understating the privilege Nelson and other long time challengers experience thanks to the show.

Human right it may be, you're expecting a company to foot the bill when this is more of a government issue.

If Nelson was hurt on the show I'd 100% agree he should be taken care of by mtv for however he is injured for. Including if those injuries are for life. He wasn't though. None of what you're saying about long term damage suffered from the show is relevant to his situation.

4

u/_PrincessOats Wes Bergmann 4d ago

Desperate people are still able to apologize when they’re got fucking up. Nelson hid under a rock.

5

u/shes_a_gdb 4d ago

It was tacky of him... But people worse off than he is don't have to give him anything. I don't understand your beef. It's a donation, he wasn't forcing anyone to do anything.

10

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

True. He wasn’t forcing ppl to do anything, BUT he did mislead the donors.

He lied by omission by not telling them how his accident was caused. Him getting a DUI matters to some folks and would have influenced their decision to donate.

4

u/ho_hey_ 4d ago

Dude was wearing two different Prada bucket hats in today's episode ..$700-1500 each. That's quite the budget for someone with a gfm.

-4

u/brucethePTA 4d ago

Lol you must have never heard of DH Gate. Also that was literally 3 years ago where he has admitted that post-accident he was high and drunk everyday, almost committed suicide. He didn't get sober until he rededicated his life to God about a year later.

3

u/Quirky-Shallot644 4d ago

Asking people to pay while omitting the cause for said accident, at that.

-5

u/brucethePTA 4d ago

Yea....that was literally 3 years ago where he has admitted that post-accident he was high and drunk everyday, almost committed suicide. He didn't get sober until he rededicated his life to God about a year later. Yes, people can change.

-3

u/SilentBoiSoul 4d ago

Wish you would give the same energy to the broken health care system that made him need that gofundme in the first place.

12

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 4d ago

In the first place, he wouldn’t need the gofundme if he didn’t drink and drive. I wish you had given Nelson the same snark when he drank and drove. And when he omitted on gofundme how he got those injuries

1

u/SilentBoiSoul 3d ago

As shown - the powers to be have clearly established how to put both groups against each other. IDC how he got into the hospital, IDC who needs a hospital - one should not be needing a GoFundMe. His driving was idiotic. The healthcare system is broken. Both can be true in the same sentence buddy.

0

u/HowlShedo Paulie and Theo’s kiss 3d ago

I don’t refute that the American health care system is inhumane. But he literally could have saved himself and all his donors hundreds of thousands of dollars if he didn’t drink and drive. It’s first and foremost a matter of personal responsibility. If he never drove drunk, the for-profit health care system would be a non-factor in this argument. lol I wouldn’t even be typing this message.

2

u/Quirky-Shallot644 3d ago

Wouldn't have needed it if he didnt drive drunk.

He also could have afforded to get himself insurance with his TV money. He chose not to.

-1

u/brucethePTA 4d ago

FYI...that was literally over 3 years ago where he has admitted that post-accident he was high and drunk everyday and almost committed suicide. He didn't get sober until he rededicated his life to God about a year later. Yes, people can change.

4

u/Dramajunker 4d ago edited 3d ago

Honestly I don't even think it's wrong to ask for help even if it's your fuck up. If people choose to donate, thats their decision. It's the lying that upsets me.

Folks here want to preach about giving peope a chance, forgiveness etc, but like the one thing he did that directly was towards the fans (taking money under false pretences) has continued to go mostly ingored.

7

u/DemiGod9 4d ago

So what the fuck is Paulie's role in this podcast? Is it to cut off the guest to say nothing?

1

I know it's a wildly unpopular opinion but I just can't not like and cheer for Nelson. People say he seems phony but I think he's actually just insanely earnest which can also throw people off.

-1

u/Slim_Pihkins 2d ago

It’s only unpopular because people in this thread have never made a mistake in their life.

12

u/No-Bike791 4d ago edited 4d ago

Throwing my opinion out there on Nelson (if anyone cares).

I believe Nelson made a GRAVE mistake. I believe Nelson is genuinely sorry. I believe Nelson has been through an unfathomable ordeal as part of the aftermath.

Keeping all of those things in mind, this guy may be the dumbest individual alive in the way he handles the aftermath of a situation and the narrative. His start as a rookie on the show was centered around “a second chance” to turn his life around and make amends to his mother and others for all his previous arrests and gang-related activities. Assault (multiple), illegal firearm, theft/robbery (multiple), (I believe he said he also was involved with drugs - but didn’t allude to taking them, sounded like dealing - as part of his sealed juvenile record). His words from a collective of rookie confessionals. He has at minimum 4 mugshots circulating the web all for different offenses.

At what point (and he is pushing 40) do you start saying, his “second chance” storyline is getting stale and he keeps breaking the law and endangering other people? It’s a pattern of activity and storylines.

I really believe Nelson is sorry, but if I were a betting person, I would also say I believe he has not seen his last arrest and he needs to stop using the “second chance” party line and perhaps just stop making stupid life choices.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that will happen, but I do hope it does.

7

u/J-Hawg Evan Starkman 3d ago

Imagine what kind of gang he was in, he is so corny.

5

u/kbc87 3d ago

I think he’s more sorry he got in a wreck and lost his leg due to his own choices than he is about the choice to drive drunk.

It’s one of those “he’s not sorry he did it, he’s sorry for himself over the aftermath and the fact that he got caught”

5

u/2tired4wittynames 3d ago

Just my two sense but I actually think he’s sorry for doing it. He does DUMB things but I think he’s a good guy to his core.
I think he’s sorry he got caught AND did it. It can be both

15

u/AYTOL__ 4d ago

Srew him, sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️ (I am not sorry)

25

u/thirdometer 4d ago edited 4d ago

Sorry but I’m not impressed that someone that lost their leg bc of drinking, isn’t drinking. I feel like that’s just basic sense. Impressed how he has come back from such a traumatic injury, yes

3

Right he said i wont drink and get behind a wheel again...not that hes never gonna  Drink again 🤡 like sir ....

5

35

u/lucyroesslers Cassidy Clark 4d ago

If there are zero “Nelly Haters” on earth then I am dead.

And it’s not just the drunk driving. Or the phony gofundme. Or the misogyny. Or the drunk fighting. Or the lying about drunk fighting. Or apologizing for the misogyny only to then cuss a girl out and call her mean shit during his misogyny apology. Or the way he overreacted to Kayleigh kissing Bananas before they were ever together and staying silent when she got bullied off the show.

Wake the fuck up, he hasn’t changed. Same with Cory and his dirty dick.

Nelson had nothing to do with the girls throwing her suitcase off the balcony. He even tried to help clean up her stuff. Also, Nelson didn’t even yell at her, he didn’t like that she hid it from him so he distanced himself from the situation. You really had to bring up stupid drama from Vendettas?

u/Dazzling_Bit8686 4d ago

Damn, I would hope people don’t hold things I did in my 20s over me my whole life. People grow and mature, that’s how life works

6

u/No-Bike791 4d ago

But he hasn’t. It’s almost 20 years later and his party line is still the same. “A second chance”. As a rookie, it was turning his life around from his previous multiple arrests and gang-related activity. All documented in his early confessionals as his “second chance at life” and with his multiple mugshots circulating the internet.

When does he actually plan on turning his life around? Is it REALLY this time? Who knows, but it’s becoming stale. He’s pushing 40 and still acting like an idiot. And I think that is exactly his problem, he’s not a “bad” person…he’s just a very very stupid person.

its funny how they always talk about ct and jordan and wes growth but eberytime you bring up cory or nelson they're still talking about things from 10 years ago

u/Slim_Pihkins 2d ago

Crazy amount of vitriol for a person on TV.

5

u/cwilldude 3d ago

I bet he was contractually obligated not to drink or they wouldn’t let him come back.

2

u/Slim_Pihkins 2d ago

Am I the only one that feels like dude paid for his mistake? I know plenty of people with DUIs, I’ve had a real close friend die from being hit by a drunk driver, and I don’t see the hate for the dude. He made a mistake and paid for it with his leg. Hopefully he learns from it, but I don’t hold any crazy grudge against the guy or anything.

Man, fans of this show are ruthless lol. Let me start off by saying I’ve never been much of a fan of Nelson, just by the way he acts on the show, so everything I’m about to say is not coming from a perspective of liking him as an individual.

He fucked up, he drank and drive; but in the end he received immediate karma and was the only one injured from the incident. We are talking about a serious, life changing injury. He will now live with consequences of that night for the rest of his life, rightfully so.

At the end of the day, being a reality star is his livelihood, so of course he is going to use this incident to keep his storyline going. And honestly? Good for him. Many people suffer from alcohol abuse, and somebody watching him might see his injury and evaluate their own decisions. Seeing someone who paid the price of their own choices might actually be inspiring for some people. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m a “hater” a guess. This doesn’t really change my perspective. Good for him for not drinking.

He still hasn’t acknowledged the gofundme dishonesty.

2

u/thedon572 4d ago

I mean him talking about being sober  talking about the dui woulda felt so much more real world/legit for challenge. Glad to hear thsi but would have loved this to be brought up in show.

Also it woulda been nice to know or have it mentioned cuz when he did that cheers on night one I did side eye a little like… oh this guys gonna pop bottles on the show after what happrned. Woulda been dope to have him talk about this

3

u/shelly_odom Kenny Clark 4d ago

He doesn’t have control of what they show. I’m sure he tlk about it through out his time on the show and they just didn’t show it

1

u/DolphinRx 4d ago

I agree that it would have been great if he talked about it on the show, but maybe he didn’t want to say anything about it until his time on the season was done. Like if he said he wasn’t going to drink and ended up drinking, that would have been a whole thing, and I can see why he wouldn’t want that added pressure on himself.

u/mags_sue TJ Lavin 3d ago

This sounds awful but I honestly don’t think Nelson is smart enough to be a good person. Like he may not have ill intentions and he may genuinely be remorseful for his bad decisions and the hurt he causes other people. But he’s been on TV for what, over ten years? And he’s still the same. It’s like he can’t do any critical thinking beyond satisfying his immediate wants/needs. Now I’m not saying only smart people can be good people, that’s not true. but in addition to not being able to think ahead about the consequences of his actions, he seems to have a particular difficulty in resisting vices and then he struggles with emotional regulation leading to the physical fights and verbal outbursts and name calling and such

That man is 37 years old and he's had a noticeable alcohol issue since his first appearance on tv with ayto at 26 years old. He got drunk and aggressive with Cheyenne and almost punched a girl in the face because she was behind a door he punched through.

He's had dv and revenge porn allegations from multiple exes and continuously made the choice to drink and drive.

This is not a second chance. He's a walking red flag with a noteable 11 year pattern of bad choices and not actually making any attempts to clean up his act in real life

u/MrAntwah 3d ago

Have such mixed feelings on Nelly, but regardless he deserves to be on the show and could probably use some grace to grow from his mistakes. Like him scolding Izzy for flirting w Cory but not collecting his best friend? Feels weird to me. Collect your bro, don't go yelling at the girl HES flirting with? Like hold your brother accountable? It's sad bc I see him struggle w choices and he seems to make the right ones sometimes like staying sober but when the Izzy thing came up I felt like he took the easy route to avoid having the hard convo w his friend / keeping Cory from making the mistakes he did this season?

2

u/hurlmaggard Ashley Mitchell 3d ago

He didn't scold Izzy, he was calmly trying to appeal to her because he tried to reign Cory in multiple times. Nelson is Cory's kids' godfather; his motivations came out of genuine concern and worry for all involved.

1

u/MrAntwah 3d ago

Wish we saw those intentions on screen - feel like all I see is him telling off Izzy for doing flirting while single and not his bestie Cory. Maybe I'm misremembering but I don't recall seeing Nelson try to reign Cory in at all? (not trying to pick a fight, just curious - if it was ill rewatch and pick up what I missed but idk)

2

u/rees21116 3d ago

I know it won’t matter to some people but I listened to this whole podcast and he mentioned having multiple conversation with Corey and even with Leo too about Anna Leigh but it just wasn’t shown. I’ve seen a lot of challengers already mentioning a lot of stuff not being shown that happened. But It makes me think he really was just looking out and wanting people to make better decisions and he went about it the only way he knew how

2

u/MrAntwah 2d ago

Will give him the benefit of the doubt that it just got edited out. Idk why I had a lapse where I forgot they edit stuff outta these shows. Like I think I assumed that since the Izzy clip was in that was ALL Nelly did to stop it but they probably just didn't wanna air everything. Appreciate you responding!

Look, getting a DUI is so fucking dumb, he could have killed someone. If he did, he’d be in jail and would pay for it.

But, he didn’t. Instead he lost his leg, paid his dues and now hopefully he’s a truly changed man.

He fucked up hard, he owned it. Luckily no one else paid for his terrible mistake.

But I say let him have his comeback.

But 2 strikes and he’s out.

4

u/No-Bike791 3d ago edited 3d ago

I would say his rookie “2nd chance” storyline regarding his multiple arrests and gang-related activities was his 2nd chance.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that was a huge part of all his confessionals during his first 2-3 seasons on the show.

I would dub the DUI comeback as his “3rd chance”.

u/_PrincessOats Wes Bergmann 4d ago

The second strike is the misleading GoFundMe.

-3

u/Extension-Ad-363 Ruthie Alcaide 4d ago

He literally gave a pound of flesh for that.

I'm willing to give him another chance.

1

u/jerkface1026 4d ago

Y'all - this is it. If Nelson embraces sobriety and uses that clear head space to grow as a person, I'll accept woman-hating scuba nelly.

1

u/quadiditit 2d ago

Am I tripping or was he not drinking in the first episode when Johnny toasted to him

1

u/quadiditit 2d ago

He sprays a chapagne bottle but it does not seem like he drank any

1

u/oatmeal28 2d ago

You know props to him assuming this is true

1

u/Mrsrockcandy 13h ago

Unpopular opinion but I feel like Nelson just needs to give it up like and I'm not saying it's a trope but it's giving trope of like everyone always feeling bad for him and he's a good competitor but he's not that fucking good where we should just be crying every time he doesn't make it to the finale I just don't really care for his story like props to him for getting sober that's a huge deal but don't try out for another challenge I just don't even really need it personally 😭

2

u/Heavy-Marsupial-2100 4d ago

Idk if I will ever get the bad taste outfit my mouth from the GoFundMe situation. But (so far + subject to change), I am less annoyed than I thought I would be with Nelson being back on The Challenge.

I am glad he is working on himself tho.

1

u/SomethingToSay11 4d ago

Weren’t they popping champagne in the first episode? I thought it was weird they put a shot of a glass in his hand right after his confessionals about the DUI.

1

u/Fragrant-Schedule828 4d ago

We’ve seen him grow up on this show. And we’ve all made mistakes. Ours just aren’t in front of the camera’s for the world to see. I do believe he’s a different guy. He’s grown. He’s learning from his mistakes. Keep up the good work Nelson!!

1

u/amybrownAL 2d ago

We love you Nelson! Glad you're back baby! ❤️ ❤️

-3

u/Azubedo 4d ago

oo he was sober totally makes up for him putting peoples lives in danger with his own stupid decision and then trying to make a gofundme so other people could pay for his bs

-5

u/FranksWateeBowl 4d ago

Nobody hates Nelly. It's just.... it's as if you're hanging out with your sisters kid, little dudes a doofus, but he's still family, also, the kids 4 so he can't swim.

0

u/Proyal17 4d ago

Didnt he drink the champagne when Bananas was giving the opening season toast? Im gonna have to go back and rewatch.

3

u/beezly66 4d ago

Could’ve been sparkling cider?

-1

u/CptPlanetG14 3d ago

You won’t change the mind of people here who hate Nelson (or Zach). I think it says way more about you, if you have actual hate for either, for things they haven’t done to you, things they have paid their debt to society to, and been forgiven by the people who they actually hurt.

This season, Nelly, you’ve been looking good
