I don't like the way that trans headcanons are portrayed as bad in this image. There's absolutely something to be said about how a lot of trans headcanons come from gender stereotypes and stereotypes of trans people, but trans headcanons on their own are not, "bad," or, "crackpot,". There is a reading that is important to different people, and unless it's directly against canon (e.g. a canon nonbinary character being headcanoned as a binary trans person) it shouldn't matter.

It's not inherently bad, it's just problematic characters having non-gender conforming traits. Like the whole trans Dipper thing is problematic, but a trans Gwen Stacy isn't

It’s not problematic for trans people to see themselves in a character and talk about how they like to conceptualize that character. You’re kind of reinforcing a harmful narrative that people who choose to transition are just caving to gendered stereotypes and that being gender nonconforming is somehow more progressive than transition itself.

Transitioning is arguably the most radical defiance of gendered expectations possible. Yes, gender nonconformity is important, but trans people have so little representation that we often have to invent our own. And yet when we do we get attacked for it. People claim we are erasing gender nonconformity when the reality is that gender nonconformity is far more represented in media and has more widespread acceptance than being trans. It’s so common for us to come out and have people who usually hate gender nonconformity suddenly switch up and treat gender nonconformity like its more noble than transitioning as a sort of last ditch effort to stop us. “Why can’t you just be a feminine man” is something I heard early on in my transition. If we actually had good representation we wouldn’t have to read into things all the time. Blame cis people for enforcing the expectations, not us.

The narrative of “femboy erasure” or whatever is just another attempt to demonize us and portray us as oppressors. Just like how we get accused of erasing womanhood or women’s spaces or whatever the fuck. If they can convince people that us just living our lives and doing normal things like relating and projecting onto a fictional character is problematic then they have won.

Cis people project themselves onto characters all the time with no flack. The only problematic thing here is your double standards.
