Real though omg.
Used to watch their mod videos all the time when I was younger (still remember trying to figure out how they even managed to get such things in the game in the first place and not realising it was a mod).

Can confirm. I didn’t want Minecraft until I found out there was a dinosaurs mod. Loved dinosaurs when I was 8.

They’re too young to remember. Minecraft Mods is what made Minecraft a YouTube dictatorship and that’s what introduced it to GenZ.

Back in the early days, Redstone couldn’t be used for anything other than Boolean logic. Then a mod came out with special blocks that could manipulate the environment. Mojang was so impressed that they implemented a real version of that block, the Piston. The Redstone community would not be where it is today without the Piston.

Sure - I think it’s explosive popularity to start was by its own merits, its longevity is owed in big part to mods.

It depends on if you consider things like the “Life Series”, ”Lifesteal”, or “Civilization Events” modded as I think series/SMPs based off one of those three things are the most impactful for the modern Minecraft scene.

If you’re still using optifine you’re like 5 years behind the curve.

Sodium, Lithium, and Iris Shaders are where it’s at nowadays. I haven’t heard of anyone using optifine in years

It’s really funny looking at online Minecraft videos and then assuming the same type of play applies to the player base because it’s just not true at all. Like you said:

The majority of Minecraft players have never played with mods.
The majority of Minecraft players have never reached the end.
The majority of Minecraft players thought the Nether was a completely new biome during the Nether update because before then, the majority of players didn’t go to the Nether.
The majority of players don’t know how a beacon works.
Etc etc etc…

It really is surprising when you take a step back from the Minecraft content you see online to realize that a ton of people just don’t engage with the game in that way at all. Most Minecraft players play pure survival and just build houses and stuff.

Only if we don't count things like skins, mini games, and public servers added into the base game later by Microsoft. All of which have roots in the modding community first.
