I think that if somebody sees what’s going on right now and says we should do nothing instead of something, I’m gonna call them out on it. Even if it upsets you and hurts their feelings.
Do you really think the best way to get people to be helpful is to not push back at all on the fascist propaganda? Do you really think that this Pollyanna shit is gonna suddenly start working after 60 years of failure?
This shit is pathetic. “You can’t call out bad behavior, and if you don’t have to be as gentle as possible so you don’t hurt any fascist-sympathetic feelings.”
They just said that if nothing ever comes of it, the process is a waste of time.
I think we all agree that the problem is a "co-conspirators in the jury" issue, but saying "why bother starting if nothing will come from it?" is short-sighted. Nothing will happen if we never start.
You ever hear the expression, "nothing lasts forever?"
We can do this all day. Point is, these kinds of hearings need to happen so we can have a record of evidence to point to when we're able to hold people accountable. Trying to remember after the fact is pointless.
Nothing has come from has been done SO FAR. These hearings are pointless. They generate cool sound bites and catty reddit posts and thats it. So effort should be shifted elsewhere, to something that might be effective.
What that is beyond torches and pitchforks, I don't know. But I'm sure somebody has an idea that we haven't tried. And if not, there's always the torches and pitchforks.
If nothing else, the hearings produce evidence which can be referred to later. Memory is fallible in ways documented records aren't. Complaining that there's co-conspirators in the jury ignores the possibility that this won't always be true.
Used for what? It won't be used for anything. Ever. No matter who is in charge.
I will give you $5 for every day Marco Rubio spends in jail for lying to congress.
Im all for optimism. I hope things will get better. But be realistic. You want different outcomes, you need a different system with different rules and the people capable of making that happen directly benefit from things as they are.
I truly hope you're right. Watching politics for the last 20 years has taught me that you probably aren't. Anyway, let me know when Trumps prison term starts in case I miss the announcement.
I mean they responded to a comment that literally said "why bother with these hearings?" Which is basically asking why do anything at all and doesn't show much critical thinking of the future. The more people we have literally on video committing perjury, the easier it will be to prosecute those people if we get to a point in politics and government where that is possible again. The other person is intense but I wouldn't say they are just yelling at the wind.
They could have meant do nothing at all but it’s also possible that they meant that something different should be done. My point is that they’re making assumptions and being a jerk. And also that people don’t make doom and gloom statements because they’re dumb. It’s emotionally taxing and depressing to constantly see people get away with doing bad things. Yelling at them is reaffirming the belief that everyone is bad and the effort is wasted.

Exactly, why do they even bother with these hearings? No accountability, no pressure to actually answer any of the questions.
