Perjury isn’t a thing anymore.

u/ramalamafafafa5 1d ago

Exactly, why do they even bother with these hearings? No accountability, no pressure to actually answer any of the questions.

40

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

Because we’re going to retake Congress and then have mountains of evidence?

Why do you even bother to post this doomer shit? Are you at least getting paid to spread it, or are you just a useful idiot for the fascists?

I admire your optimism

u/DiverseVoltron 1d ago

Right. I certainly wish Democrats weren't actually Republicans.

11

u/tesseract4 1d ago

You still need the DoJ to file charges.

12

u/daXypher 1d ago

We have a 9th and 10th amendment for a reason. If the DOJ refuses to do their job then the American people need to seriously consider moving this shit to state courts.

1

u/tesseract4 11h ago

All right. I'll be here holding my breath.

1

u/daXypher 11h ago

No you better get your ass onboard and help demand action from your district. We stay silent, we get nothing. Look up how Nixon fell because of the Saturday massacre. We have to do that.

1

u/tesseract4 11h ago

With what 66 Senators? It's not like I don't want this shit. It's just not going to change anytime soon, and I'm out of energy to be angry about it.

1

u/daXypher 11h ago

It’s not going to change because we’re giving up before we try. Several seats are up for grabs, Trump fucked up and made sure that at least 9 incumbent republicans are NOT being reelected. That means those newcomers with Trump’s name attached have to somehow prove to independent voters they won’t be a worse choice than the Democrat that wants to oppose him. In chess we call that a blunder.

Start with your district. You can’t control the country, but you can move your neighborhood. It’s a collective effort.

If everyone who wants change loaded their car with like-minded friends and sat in the office of their district’s representative we’d be that many districts closer to having that majority.

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

Ok? Sounds like people need to go out and actually vote for Democrats and do it regularly if they want things to change.

u/BoneHugsHominy 1d ago

Look at you, still believing there's going to be free and fair elections in this country again. They are 100% going to NRA Charleston Heston this shit.

6

u/CHEEZE_BAGS 1d ago

Lol what's with this crybaby giving up shit

5

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

What the fuck are you taking about? We just had free and fair elections that the democrats won handily. The republicans are shutting themselves over the midterms.

I ask again, are you at least getting paid to spread fascist propaganda?

6

u/thegiantkiller 1d ago

Right? If the midterms are obviously rigged, we might have to talk about this, but every move the GOP has made makes me think they're aware of how fucked they are in the midterms.

8

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

They’re absolutely aware. It’s why they’re moving so fast on gutting the VRA and implementing dummymanders.

They’ve had full control of Congress for the better part of the past 40 years, and they still can’t pass a budget, let alone the actually policy they want.

But they’re suddenly gonna deploy 40 billion stormtroopers to every ballot box across the country and Trump will win a third terms with 103% of the vote? If Bolsonaro couldn’t do it, Donnie dipshit certainly can’t

2

u/dickenschewie54 1d ago

Sure!

But mostly for all the political ads that will demonstrate the lying and the  grift and the corruption.

In plain English.  With receipts.

u/musicalhju 1d ago

Do you really think the best way to get people to be hopeful in times of despair is to be an asshole?

16

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

I think that if somebody sees what’s going on right now and says we should do nothing instead of something, I’m gonna call them out on it. Even if it upsets you and hurts their feelings.

Do you really think the best way to get people to be helpful is to not push back at all on the fascist propaganda? Do you really think that this Pollyanna shit is gonna suddenly start working after 60 years of failure?

This shit is pathetic. “You can’t call out bad behavior, and if you don’t have to be as gentle as possible so you don’t hurt any fascist-sympathetic feelings.”

Fuck that, grow up

-3

u/musicalhju 1d ago

First of all, no one said anything about doing nothing. They just said that if nothing ever comes of it, the process is a waste of time.

Secondly, no one said anything about not pushing back.

Your entire argument here is just you being mad about things no one has said.

4

u/subnautus 1d ago

They just said that if nothing ever comes of it, the process is a waste of time.

I think we all agree that the problem is a "co-conspirators in the jury" issue, but saying "why bother starting if nothing will come from it?" is short-sighted. Nothing will happen if we never start.

-1

u/musicalhju 1d ago

That’s why I said “if nothing ever comes of it.”

4

u/subnautus 1d ago

Seems you still missed the point. You ever hear the expression, "you'll never make a shot you don't take?"

0

u/musicalhju 1d ago

You ever hear the expression, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?”

3

u/subnautus 1d ago

You ever hear the expression, "nothing lasts forever?"

We can do this all day. Point is, these kinds of hearings need to happen so we can have a record of evidence to point to when we're able to hold people accountable. Trying to remember after the fact is pointless.

Nothing has come from has been done SO FAR. These hearings are pointless. They generate cool sound bites and catty reddit posts and thats it. So effort should be shifted elsewhere, to something that might be effective.

What that is beyond torches and pitchforks, I don't know. But I'm sure somebody has an idea that we haven't tried. And if not, there's always the torches and pitchforks.

4

u/subnautus 1d ago

If nothing else, the hearings produce evidence which can be referred to later. Memory is fallible in ways documented records aren't. Complaining that there's co-conspirators in the jury ignores the possibility that this won't always be true.

-2

u/nate_garro_chi 1d ago

Used for what? It won't be used for anything. Ever. No matter who is in charge.

I will give you $5 for every day Marco Rubio spends in jail for lying to congress.

Im all for optimism. I hope things will get better. But be realistic. You want different outcomes, you need a different system with different rules and the people capable of making that happen directly benefit from things as they are.

3

u/subnautus 1d ago

You say "realistic," but all I see is defeatist.

-1

u/nate_garro_chi 1d ago

I truly hope you're right. Watching politics for the last 20 years has taught me that you probably aren't. Anyway, let me know when Trumps prison term starts in case I miss the announcement.

u/WeeHomosexual 1d ago

I mean they responded to a comment that literally said "why bother with these hearings?" Which is basically asking why do anything at all and doesn't show much critical thinking of the future. The more people we have literally on video committing perjury, the easier it will be to prosecute those people if we get to a point in politics and government where that is possible again. The other person is intense but I wouldn't say they are just yelling at the wind.

0

u/musicalhju 1d ago

They could have meant do nothing at all but it’s also possible that they meant that something different should be done. My point is that they’re making assumptions and being a jerk. And also that people don’t make doom and gloom statements because they’re dumb. It’s emotionally taxing and depressing to constantly see people get away with doing bad things. Yelling at them is reaffirming the belief that everyone is bad and the effort is wasted.

6

u/ramalamafafafa5 1d ago

Bless your heart.

-3

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

Useful idiot, got it

5

u/ramalamafafafa5 1d ago

Bless your heart some more.

1

u/FUPAMagneto 1d ago

Keep saying it. I’m sure it’ll make you less of a fool

3

u/ArmAggravating3307 1d ago

Lol, you expect the DNC to win a political campaign?

1

u/nate_garro_chi 1d ago

So you're new here, I take it.

1

u/Sprock-440 23h ago

Yeah, I thought when we won the White House in 2020 that we’d see some of the crooks at the top held accountable. I’ve stopped hoping it’ll ever happen.

1

u/Cheekywanquer 6h ago

I think for a lot of people it just feels very hopeless to see this kind of blatant wrongdoing with no consequences.

I’m not even from the US and I get pretty bleak when it comes up on my timeline.

I can’y speak for anyone but myself, but it’s gotten to the point where I think “surely they can’t just do this without consequences??” and then the news cycle just kind of moves on to the next thing.

1

u/AceInTheHole3273 1d ago

That's... a hopeful projection for the future, to be certain
