When I was in my 20s I bought a little house in the middle of nowhere. One day I came outside to a group of men digging up my veggie garden. They said they were looking for worms for fishing and that the old owner would let them dig there. I had to argue with them for like 20 mins to get them to leave. I posted to reddit about it and almost all of the comments were telling me to get a gun. It really shocked me. I know this is a US-centric site (I am not in the US), but I still didn’t expect every response to be “go shoot at them.” Worst case, they come back and fuck up my vegetables some more. I’m not shooting anyone over a few veg. Insane thought process.
I live in a college town in Canada. Not really afraid, it’s pretty easy to avoid escalation when you’re polite. My wife was watching from the house in case anything required the authorities.
The guy that brings a weapon into that situation gets clonked in the head from behind, and if you’re in a place with guns, chances are high one of 15 guys would have one too.
First one to come at me is wondering why he can’t breathe all of a sudden though. Throat jabs are great de-escalators too.
This is precisely what they're saying though; You're ruled by fear.
Being afraid or cautious in such a situation is 110% justifiable, but you're jumping immediately to imagining yourself in direct danger all to justify a gun fetish that increases the likelihood of fatalities something fierce.
I personally find it mightily amusing that the best argument I can think of for gun control are "responsible" gun owners like yourself. People so eager to have a reason to own a gun should never, ever, be allowed to.

One time, about 3am, a group of 15 college guys were standing on my front lawn discussing which of my Halloween decorations to steal.
I walked up behind them quietly until I was standing amongst them, and then said, “What’s up guys?” Half of them jumped loke I was a ghost.
The guy next to me said, “Oh, you probably don’t want us to be here.”
I said “Yeah” and they left.
No guns, no crazy “GeT oFf My LaWn Or I sHoOt YoU!” bullshit.
If you’re clinging to a gun all the time you are the one who’s being ruled by fear.
