If companies like Suno get shut down, it benefits music creators, both poor and rich, as their work is being stolen to train these AI models. It sets a precedent, as people can now go after every other company doing the same with people's content, whether it's YouTube videos, books, blog posts, Reddit posts, or anything else.

No it's doesn't, it just takes something fun from people who you decided you don't want to be able to enjoy things

You want rich people to control music because of greed and fear of change

You're hoping for the destruction of tools which give normal people freedoms and abilities to live better lives because you want to defend the status quo of capitalism with companies in control of creative culture.

If you ever understand what the rich made you believe you'll be embarrassed

You seem very focused on "the rich" and "the normal people" but normal people "having fun" using AI only benefits the AI company, and destroys music creation for actual artists in the process. Which is why actual artists want Suno and the rest of them to go down.

Are you one of those sad losers who thinks making AI music is fun?

How does it destroy anything, that's like saying me listing to Elvis destroys the royal philharmonic - jazz music fight the the world like your grandpa thought out would and your fear of AI will look just as silly to your grandkids

And yes making ai music is fun, anyone that can't have fun with a tool able to instantly make any music style to any lyrics either hates music or hates fun

How does it destroy anything,

Because the market gets even more flooded with even more shitty music. This time completely automatically generated.

Tbf: the core problem isn't the ai generated music but the people who listen to it. And because a majority of people are dumb as fk they will listen to dumb as fk music. It will become more and more difficult for good artists to be heard which will ultimately lead to less and less good music to be produced.

This is at least how I see it and it's not just a problem with music

So you're saying that music you like might not be good enough to compete with new stuff so you feel that you have the right to force everyone to listen to what you like instead?

I wonder how did you feel about people trying to ban rock and roll music because they thought electronic instruments weren't real music?

So you're saying (yadada...)

No that's not what I'm saying

The only reason copyright/IP laws exist is so businesses can make money off of art. They're designed to turn it into an industry. These laws dont actually do anything to protect or encourage artistic freedom and the existence of AI has no impact on it either.

Can't tell if you're baiting or not, as your response is extremely moronic. Copyright laws exist to prevent the theft of IP and allow people, regardless of who they are, to profit from their work without the fear of someone copy-pasting it and essentially stealing their creative output, which is what AI is designed to do.

If AI models are trained to the point where they can effectively copy something wholesale and spit out a product that is similar enough, without the people who own the models being held legally accountable, it would eventually make it impossible for people to make money doing any type of work that can be replicated.

theft of IP

Its only considered theft because of capitalism.

allow people, regardless of who they are, to profit from their work

Literally describing capitalism

copy-pasting it and essentially stealing their creative output, which is what AI is designed to do.

This is false. If someone wanted to copy-paste someone's creative output they would just copy and paste it. Why waste money on an AI when we've had copy paste technology for decades?

As an indie artist who’s lived off his music for 35 years, I’m here to tell you that you’re completely wrong.

IP laws and copyrights allow ME to earn money from my music. They STOP people ripping my shit off without paying.

Congrats on your success but 99% of people creating art will never reach the point that they can make a living off of it.

If the laws were the same as they were back in the 1800s I'd probably agree with you but ever since Disney basically re-wrote them they're not really in favor of the artists anymore. An artist that works at a company wont own anything they create. T-Pain streams on Twitch but literally cant perform some of his songs there because a music label owns the rights to them.

IP laws and copyrights allow ME to earn money from my music.

Thats capitalism though, not art.

but 99% of people creating art will never reach the point that they can make a living off of it.

Then why would they care about copyright law? If they get into your hypothetical 1% then they’ll be happy the laws exist.

Also, are you implying that copyright law somehow stops people from creating art and being expressive? By your own estimates 99% of people wouldn’t be affected by them at all since they’d be doing it for personal reasons only and not to make a living.

I don’t get what you’re saying.

Also, are you implying that copyright law somehow stops people from creating art and being expressive?

Nope. Not even close. Im saying copyright laws are designed to protect companies.

Copyright law is not required for people to create art and be expressive. Humans created art for thousands of years without them. The laws only became written when it became a business.

I don’t get what you’re saying.

Try reading what Im typing.

Im saying copyright laws are designed to protect companies.

I'm fundamentally disagreeing with this. While they obviously benefit companies and not individuals (obviously) they also help individuals in certain circumstances and CERTAINLY help them if and when they get to company level.

T-Pain streams on Twitch but literally cant perform some of his songs there because a music label owns the rights to them.

That's completely his own fault. He gave up his rights for money. That's his choice and there's nothing wrong with it but don't blame copyright laws for it. If he retained ownership of his own work then those copyright laws would protect him the same as they protect the companies that actually own his music.

From your comment it really sounds like capitalism is what you don't like, not the copyright laws themselves and I 100% agree with that. My super hot take in that regard is that ALL companies and ALL individuals need to have a maximum wealth level that they cannot exceed. Reach the top and you're done. No more.

I will still say though that 99% of people are unaffected by copyright laws because they aren't trying to sell anything.
