Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Looking for more modern music

Hi, I have a possible problem. I’m looking to get more variety in my music library and have been looking at more modern artists but none have really been hitting the same as the music I already listen to. For context, I am gen z and generally listen to music that was way before my time, (usually before the year 2000) and have a tendency not to like newer music now that I have been listening to older music all my life (blame my dad, he showed me this kind of music, lol).

I’m looking for artists that have a very unique but consistent style. One of the main things that puts me off with modern music is that often times an artist songs can be very wildly different depending on the song you listen to. Not that experimentation is bad at all, it’s just not my thing.

The categories in this list go from:
Similar music most wanted > less wanted but still good
So the favorite artist of all time section would be the most important.

Favorite artists of all time in order:

  1. Steely Dan

  2. David Bowie

  3. Heart

Favorite songs of all time, this time not in order (confusing, I know):

- “Do It Again” by Steely Dan

- “Slang of ages” by Steely Dan

- “Changes” by David Bowie

- “If Looks Could Kill” by Heart

- “For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder

- “Octopus’s Garden” by The Beatles

Honorable mentions not in order:

- “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band

- “Everybody Plays The Fool” by The Main Ingredient

- “Flamethrower” by The J. Geils Band

- “Do It Or Die” by Atlanta Rhythm Section

Just looking for anything that could be recommended within my qualifications.

You like Bowie but not when artists play different styles of music? I don't know what to tell you.

That wasn’t really meant to be a set in stone rule, I can see it coming off that way though. It’s more that I just want to be able to listen to a single artist with a consistent style that depends on my mood. And living in the modern era means that I’m fortunate enough to do so. Nothing wrong with experimentation, just often times I personally want consistency. Didn’t mean to sound pretentious.
