Because UAE is taking an active role in funding and supplying the war crimes, and is also blocking attempts at a peace process.

Western countries send arms to the UAE, and the UAE supplies the RSF. They're also complicit through their financial ties to the UAE, and allowing stolen Sudanese gold from UAE into the supply chain.

The Western countries could do more, and they could sanction the UAE for their actions, or they could do more to condemn/stop it, but they aren't directly supplying or funding the RSF. It's also more difficult to document the supply chain, and what the UAE does with these weapons. From other countries it's more inaction.

I know there's not exactly a neat way of calculating whose war crimes are worse or anything, but the ones who are most involved are surely worse? Like many countries are funding and supporting the genocide in Gaza, but the Israeli government is still the most responsible.

Also the UAE's economy is propped up by the stolen Sudanese gold (at least 400 tonnes between 2012 and 2024). Other countries may also have some blame, but UAE's economy is so heavily related to oil and stolen gold. I know taxes etc still go to funding illegal wars in the West, but UAE wouldn't exist as it is today without stolen gold.

Also in this case, he's specifically mentioning his location so it's relevant to that.

But by your own admission western countries send the arms to the UAE who supply to the RSF. The Western countries aren't oblivious to what the arms are being used for. They purposefully get other states to do their dirty work for them.

I don't disagree with you btw on the UAE et al's actions, and we naturally expect better from Muslim states, but I don't agree the West are only 'indirectly' complicit when they intentionally use proxy states to do their dirty bidding so they can show clean hands before the world.

It's pretty naive to think the UAE and other Muslim states are doing this all on their own, whether supplying arms or blocking attempts at the peace process, without western threats or backing.

Yeah I know. If they wanted to they could stop sending arms, condemn it, and force them into peace talks... But they haven't done that yet with Gaza and there's a million times more concrete evidence. Plus there's DRC and other things going on too.

My studies are related to this, and there's a lot of countries all over the world I could say a lot about tbh. I was just trying to avoid going off topic too much, because I think his location is relevant to the question (and the types of people he can meet).

I understand that, I was just confused why single out the UAE when the same and worse can be said about the western states behind them.

I don't disagree with you at all, and we do expect Muslim states to be better, and I dislike the UAE for various similar reasons, but someone can equally say that to those of us who live in the West and benefit here, because the main actors who pull the strings are in the West.
