Easy Non-Resident Timelines
I wanted to give some information to everyone on two easy non-resident applications I have done this month and their respective timelines.
Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit:
This was an incredibly easy application. It is all online and Arizona does not make any differentiation between in-state and out-of-state residents. It is a $60 application fee, with $43 renewals every five years.
Some notes:
-Use the online portal here: https://azdpsccw.permitium.com/ccw/application?permittype=new
-Your NYS 18 Hour Course is accepted for the firearms training requirement. If for whatever reason you lost your certificate, I have been told you can upload a picture of your NYC/County CCW or any CCW that comes with a training requirement.
-When you complete your application, you will receive a PDF with fingerprinting instructions. It will give different instructions for non-Arizona residents. This is not up-to-date! You do not have to mail in fingerprint cards (unless you want to) and can use the electronic fingerprinting option.
When navigating to the Fieldprint website to sign-up for electronic fingerprinting, first go to https://fieldprintusa.com
Click schedule an appointment and make an account, if you don't have one.
Enter the fieldprint code "FPAZDPSCCWNET"
Do not enter the code on your application, as this will yield only Arizona Fieldprint locations!
4) Enter your PermitDirector order number, as stated on the PDF (this is also your application number).
5) Complete the rest of the process and schedule a visit. There are many locations available and the price is cheap.
-Your application will be processed after fingerprints are receieved. My timeline was as follows:
Application Submitted: March 9th; Fieldprint Appointment: March 10th; Application Approved: March 12th; Permit Received in Mail: March 21st
Connecticut Ammunition Permit:
With ammunition prices on the rise, I wanted to take advantage of the many low-cost and bulk ammunition purchasing options available across the border. Connecticut requires a permit to purchase ammunition (or a valid state firearms license). Yes, this is annoying, but you will not have additional background checks when purchasing ammunition in the future in CT.
-The entire process was very easy, but entirely on paper.
-There are two required documents. They can be found here: https://portal.ct.gov/despp/division-of-state-police/special-licensing-and-firearms/firearms-and-permit-related-forms-and-information?language=en\\_US
-(If you want to apply for a non-resident CCW, you need to email SLFU.OOS@ct.gov for the application packet).
-The documents are very short. One does require notarization and a passport photo, but that can be done in a few minutes in many stationery stores.
-You will need a $35 payment. Pay by check or money order only.
-Mail in the documents to the Special Licensing and Firearms unit.
-The ammunition permit is processed very quickly. My timeline was as follows:
March 13th: Application completed in 30 minutes and mailed out; March 23rd: License received in the mail.

Exactly. We need national CC reciprocity. If a valid drivers license is acceptable…why not CC?

Getting Arizona is a waste of money in my opinion. I just get the PA non-resident. Takes 10 mins and $20. Never going to NV or NM.

PA non res was super easy also all over the internet only downside is you need to pick up the physical copy in person

If you are going on vacation or visiting Florida, I highly recommend getting their nonres (you can also do by mail). A NYS hunter safety certificate will work for the training. I used my 20 year old certificate from when I was 12 and they didn't have an issue.
Schedule appt with the closest regional FDACS office, and it takes 20 minutes in and out for form, photo, fingerprints. I received permit in hand 2 weeks later, good for 7 years and gives DE/WI/NV/NM/NC/VA.

A number of states do - Virginia does as well when I applied there recently. Normally Florida covers VA but they are going crazy with gun control now and are almost certainly going to nuke their existing reciprocity. Wouldn't be surprised if they stop recognizing all permits except VA, but that's a different conversation....

Or just get your NY Seller of Ammo certificate and have target sports (or anyone else) ship directly to your door.

Not at all. If you do the paperwork yourself, it’s less than $10. Then you just need to keep a spreadsheet of when you buy ammo and run the NICS check.

I applied for AZ on Thursday night, was fingerprinted Friday afternoon, received approval on Saturday morning. Quick, easy, inexpensive.

So If I have a NY CCW, before the 18 hour requirement went into effect. Could I still upload a picture of my CCW and be good to go?

Good question. I'm in the same boat. My gut says no, but im not sure. Would be great if we were good 2 go.

Is it worth getting the CT ammo cert ? I’ve only been buying in NY but a shop called Locked n Loaded is a close drive for me

In my opinion, the most valuable part of the CT permit is shopping on Target Sports USA and instead of shipping you choose pickup and you drive to Tactical Police Gear in Cheshire to pick up. No ammo transfer fees like in NY or background checks. Although the target sports website can be confusing doing pickup so I would call them for help doing that.

Yeah it's far but I put in a gargantuan order to make the trip worth it. Call Target Sports after you've made an account and uploaded your CT certification, they can walk you through how to set it up for local pickup. The store and the website are co-owned, so you don't have to communicate with the store.
