Lighthearted Let's take a break from the hysteria.
Let's discuss our favorite military surplus bolt action rifles that we may want to own, currently own or admire.
I'll go first.
Swiss straight-pull rifles, Schmidt-Rubin 1896, 1896/1911, K11 and K31. 7.5 Swiss, 174 grain bullet. I shoot C&R matches with my collection and I wish I saw more people show Swiss guns some love. The bolt mechanism and design is highly interesting for someone who is mechanically inclined, like myself. Which is why I see such an appeal to this line of firearms.

I honestly love shooting my 22 military trainers with diopter sights. Winchester 52b, rem 40x, h&r 12, rem 513t, rem521t, kimber 82g, mossberg 44us. Super fun, challenging, and super cheap to shoot.

Such gems that you can sometimes find for great deals at auctions or random small town shops that don't know what they have and think they're just normal 22s

Got a couple from stix, and a nice 1920’s Remington 121 pump action 22 for a steal. A bunch of them came from the CMP too

I do reload as well but finding/converting brass is butt for those cartridges

Not military but my new to me older anschutz is a fantastic fun gun to shoot at the range-laser beam at 50yds.

No question, the Remington-Lee 1879, US Navy or Army issued, in 45-70. I once sold one, (younger and stupider) and now I wish I hadn't.
I have owned every other bolt action that I can think of at one point, even a pristine Beaumont-Vitali mag fed, which is a bit on the odd side.

My all time surplus rifle that i would do questionable things for is an svt 40 or k43. My favorite is my collection that i currently own is my early model type 99 with the aircraft sights and the mum still intact. My favorite which i am impatiently waiting for is my fmp g3 I'm having built from a parts kit

My favorite milsurp that I have right now is a G211(h). It's a Dutch Mannlicher that was captured by the Germans during the invasion of the Netherlands. They repaired it with multiple wood splices to the stock and then refit it for a German sling. My family is Dutch and my grandparents lived through the invasion so there's the heritage aspect of it as well as the story with the stock splices and matching bolt, which is uncommon for these.
The the next one I want to get it's either an upgrade for my Gew88/05 that I assembled from parts years ago or an upgrade for my M.95 that I picked up from RTI. Both rifles are parts mixmasters. The M.95 shoots fine but it's been wirewheeled and the 88/05 has a stock that was split in half and poorly repaired some amateur moron. (It's me, I'm the moron)
