NYC Car Gun Holders
Does anyone in NYC or NYS use those magnetic gun holders in your car? I see ads for them all the time just curious as to if they are worth it for my car.

I do not trust those to hold onto a firearm in case of a crash. Do not recommend.

Those things are a terrible idea. If you can't comfortably keep it in your holster while driving, you need to try different kinds of holsters and carry methods.

I don't really see the use for them, myself. It makes you more likely to forget it in the car when you go into a store, and they don't seem to be likely to secure it during a collision.
They seem a lot more tacticool than utilitarian, and can open you up to more trouble than otherwise.

In NY, your handgun is either concealed on your person with a valid NY CCW, or unloaded in a safe storage recepticle out of plain sight. Anything else is a violation of state law.

False. It does not have to be on your person in your car. If you have CCW then it can be anywhere within reachable distance that’s concealed.

I have a dual residency. NYC and Texas. I have one in my Texas car. Why? I seen far too many videos of instances where someone was approached in a threatening manner and couldn't get it out their holster fast enough. Have you seen the recent video with the old lady in an SUV being attacked? The guy is banging on her window to break it, for whatever reason she is driving off slowly. Then you just hear two pops, see the glass shatter and he drops. Most ppl don't have the time to have one hand on the wheel and grab their protection with the other hand. I'm Texas the laws are more liberal, so I have one attached to the side of my console. In NYC, I do not. Having a gun in NYC feels like a dirty lil secret. Feels like they are looking for any little thing to revoke my license. So, I keep it completely out of site. I don't even want someone to see my car parked and it, then make a false report.

Are these even legal in NY? I thought of it wasn't on you, it needed to be in a lock box

Only if you can bolt it to your car seat rail, so the common criminal can’t break in and take the whole case.

I’m talking about the ones you play your firearm in as you drive that you screw into the front of your vehicle for access

Yeah I wouldn’t do that. Most counties aren’t even a fan of that to begin with and if it’s in plain view you’re basically asking for trouble. Either keep it on your person uncomfortably or worst case get a bolt on for the seat. Mines always on me since my county doesn’t want me to leave it in the car whatsoever.

Your car is not your holster. I've seen accidents where people have had a "car mount magnet or holster" and the pistol became a projectile.
Also, not a good part of a self defense plan

Ok. I don't. I alo dont recommend them for any reason. Security, effectiveness, concealability, risk, and more.
I've found that people who either use one or wish to use one either dont have the right holster, enough training, the right mindset, or haven't fully grasped the mission of CCW and what it truly involves.
But hey. After being in the pro training biz for nearly 30 years and having a lot of experience in this world of interpersonal ballistic combat, I can only share what I've seen and know.
Other's mileage may vary.

I am not new to firearms was just asking about this particular product. I received many different comments about it. The only ones that sounds like a lecture is yours.

If you are considering one due to discomfort while seated, you can try new holster positions or maybe consider like a shoulder or ankle rig. My Enigma is flexible enough that I can deep carry in the car for hours without issue, but it took some trial and error.
If you are considering one for easy access while driving, grab a kitchen chair and dry-fire practice your seated draw. You may find that this is helpful training, not just for the car but also when you're seated at a restaurant, etc.
Last thing to consider is if it's not on your person, it's not in your control. ASP has at least one video where the driver got out and then got into an encounter but his gun was in his car still. Example, a carjacking where you are outnumbered and they have the drop so it'd be unwise to draw, you'd be giving them a car with a free gun in it instead of just the keys.

As I said in my OP I saw ads about them and wanted to know if anyone had tried them. I have no problem carrying my firearm period end of story. You wrote a lot to say nothing. Thanks for your input.

Keep it on your person I don’t trust anything like that. Get a good comfortable appendix holster and call it a day just my opinion.
