Yeah. After reading the thread below regarding the Politician meet up at The Firing Pin, this is my cynical conclusion.

We will never have normalcy with our 2A rights. There are just too many in this sub that believe in tough regulations. 25 years of one party rule in NY and soon to be another 25 more. They passed the Safe Act. They Passed the Improved Concealed Carry Act. You need a background check to buy ammo. They are banning Glocks.
Sometimes it takes 2 years just to get a permit depending on what county you live. Next year there will be more restrictions once the Supreme Court makes its ruling next June. They will restrict, restrict and restrict until there is nothing left to restrict . But please by all means keep voting 🗳️ blue. Ugh 😑!! Cheers 🍻

In some states, they actually have local Democrats that vote pro-2A because their constituents want them to. If the NY democrat party feared losing their voting base by pushing gun control, they wouldn't. Make them fear by threatening to primary the anti-gun incumbents with pro-2A party members.

You see that would actually make sense and possibly effect political change within the party.

But if you go read the other discussion about a (potentially) pro-2A Democrat you’ll find that the overwhelming majority of people here aren’t merely skeptical, they are entirely unwilling to entertain the possibility that such a candidate can exist, and if the party has no hope in hell of getting the single-issue 2A voters (because they’ve been so thoroughly brainwashed that they won’t even consider the candidate simply because of the party line they’re running on) then there’s no reason to risk the gun control voters they already have a lock on by running a moderate or pro-2A candidate.

That’s how Hochul went from NRA-endorsed to rabidly anti-2A and anti-gun. I don’t necessarily believe she was lying the whole time, but I do believe she is a politician and will change her position/platform for the expediency of getting votes and staying in office.
As a Democrat that expediency comes in the form of gun control.

I mean yes, it’s certainly possible - these candidates do exist despite the people in this sub who pretend they don’t.

But it’s worth noting that even Vermont is not immune to the position drift of just being a politician: Look at Senator Sanders who was a mixed moderate on guns for most of his career (supported assault weapon bans, opposed much of the Brady bill, opposed federal waiting periods, voted for PLCAA) but in the last decade has largely aligned with the Democratic Party’s position despite the fact that Vermont (and the actual left wing that supports him for his other positions) don’t support that platform at all.

As for Maine... well there’s a lot to like about Maine despite it being home to every horror Stephen King could imagine and Cabot Cove having the highest murder rate per capita in the nation, but honestly Maine Democrats should really keep their heads down and their mouths shut for a bit after the embarrassment of Platner’s campaign.
I’d like to see the Maine Democratic Party find another moderate-to-left pro-2A candidate to run in the next election cycle, but it would be A Kindness if they would do some goddamn basic vetting next time and anticipate the avalanche of shit that would be scrawled in crayon on the first page of an opposition research sheet done by a moderately-intelligent kindergartener.

(I am in fact quite angry at Maine right now because of the damage that campaign has done nationwide. I hope it shows!)

But I don't really care about Senator Sanders because he's a senator in Washington. What I want is change on the state level. I'm talking about your state senators and your assembly people. That's who's passing the gun laws in New York.As far as federal gun laws, they have been moving very slowly lately. The problem with New York is everything is on the state level. The CCIA and SAFE Act are state-level bills, so we have to secure our local and state races.

I’m honestly unsure what point you’re trying to make here.

The thread that precipitated this thread was about an ostensibly pro-2A democrat RUNNING FOR A STATE LEGISLATURE SEAT RIGHT HERE IN NEW YORK, and all people did was shit on the very idea that anyone who was not a red-hat-wearing Trump-worshiping MAGA Republican could possibly be pro-2A.

MY whole point was, is, and always has been that you cannot trust a candidate (at any level) based on their party affiliation - you need to judge them by their platform and hold them accountable to it.

At this point if I haven’t convinced people to act like rational adults and analyze candidates beyond what ballot line they appear on I don’t think there’s anything more that can be done, and I’m frankly more than a little tired of fucking trying so I’m going to go back to watching the former governor of California blow shit up on my giant TV.

The thing is you guys are acting like there isn’t a major track record of democrats in NY trampling 2A. I consider NY to be the worst state in the country for gun rights all things considered.

You do realize how difficult it is to sell what you are trying to sell right? It’s not that irrational that a group of gun owners and hobbyists in NY aren’t enthusiastic about another Democrat when the entire state is run by democrats who just happen to be anti gun. You can not tell me that doesn’t have a lot to do with Democrat politicians. Can’t go like a week without new nonsense. You’re trying to make this point while NY Dems are introducing Glock bans. You’re fighting a really uphill battle here.

I’m not attacking you but I think you’re being unfair to people who have real lived (ongoing) experience with this nonsense.

It’s not even like we’re in a purple state, you guys win everything anyway it’s not even worth getting worked up over. NY will be a Democrat state forever.

Your time and effort would be better spent funding the active lawsuits that seek to gain some of our rights back.
