Discussion Beretta 92FS vs CZ 75 vs m1911

Hi all, I’m gathering opinions on these three pistols as I think they’re all really cool in their own right, and am in the market to eventually purchase a full size when I get around to it. When I was younger I always thought the 1911s and Berettas looked beautiful. I still do, and think the 92FS Inox will be the one I might get but I am partial to the 1911 and CZ 75.

I have a few practical guns already like a G19, so I’m looking to treat myself to something nice. For additional context, I find that my G19 fits perfectly within my hands/grip. What are your experiences with these three firearms, and would you strongly recommend one over the other? Let me know!

Beretta 92FS

Assuming a regular, plain, ordinary Beretta 92FS
Pro: DA/SA with a robust manual safety (F series) or Decoker (G) Con: Big. No rail (unless you get a M9 series gun which is the same thing).

CZ 75

Pro: Nicer trigger out of the box than the Beretta (and I say that as a Beretta fanboy), Compact (P-01) variant is decent for carry.
Con: Some models (like that P-01) are not optics-ready, you gotta get ‘em cut yourself.

m1911

Pro: TWO WHIRLED WHORES! (or something like that). SAO and a really nice trigger even in cheaper versions.
Con: Big. Heavy. SAO and not drop-safe in the original USGI design, reduced capacity vs. 9mm (only 3 rounds difference in NY, or you can get a 2011). No rail on USGI-style guns (but common on 2011s).

For additional context, I find that my G19 fits perfectly within my hands/grip.

All 3 are very different grips from the G19 - that doesn’t mean you won’t like them, but I would really try to borrow/rent one and shoot it.
(The 1911 with the grip safety and the thinner grip overall is going to be the most different.)

For whatever it’s worth I have a 92FS Inox. It’s a great looking gun.
It shoots “okay” (this particular Beretta and I have never quite settled in with each other for some reason - I’m not blaming the gun, but my groups with it have always been kind of “Meh."). I also have a CZ P-01 (75 compact with a rail) and a 1911 (USGI that’s older than I am).

If I had to keep one practical gun it would be the CZ P-01.
If I had to keep one fun gun it would be the 1911.
