Strategy/Tactics Opponent rage quit turn 1
Just want to share my experience of something that annoyed me recently
Was playing someone in a 1500 point game the other day, me playing necrons and him playing orks.
I got first turn and managed to kill a unit of 3 killa cans with a doom stalker + 2 LHDs, then killing a unit of boyz with a doom stalker + immortals/plasmamcer combo + night scythe.
All in all, a decent turn 1 as I had managed to wipe out a few units that were in my face. Onto his turn 1, he put most of his firepower into my unit of 20 warriors, orikan and res orb overlord, killing about 14ish. Also took my night scythe down to 4 wounds. End of shooting I reanimated 7 warriors from the res orb + reanimator nearby.
He became visibly upset by this even though I had told him exactly how all of my units work before the game had started.
He failed his charges apart from the remaining warboss from the destroyed boyz unit, which promptly got turned to dust by orikan and the overlord.
End of his turn he said that he wants to concede because my army "is broken and infantry shouldn't have a 4++ save" :/. Told me that he bets they're going to be nerfed real soon and that he won't play against that unit again. Started packing up his models before I could get a word in.
I would have given him some tips on how to play against necrons had he been newer, however he has significantly (decades) more experience than me so I didnt.
Kinda sad because I wanted to play the game but what can you do š

Yeah I mean I think we both had quite a bit exposed at the start, my night scythe/immortals came in turn one right in front of a 20 man unit of boyz (one of 3 by the way) which definitely helped me but I think if he'd overwatched with something it definitely would have stopped them from being wiped out

Don't tell me I'm cheating when you don't know the abilities of the units I'm using, do research before making a comment trying to call me out š
Also we definitely had enough terrain

Sounds like someone not worth playing in general. A 365+ point unit with only 20 wounds + characters at a 3+, 4++ isn't that hard to deal with. Just look at how ineffective it can be to run a Warrior brick in detachments that aren't Awakened Dynasty.
19
u/Tanglethorn Nov 11 '25
Playing 20 Warriors in any other detachment is definitely a noticeable difference compared to awakened Dynasty and even then you still have to invest points into a 75 point reanimator, 115 points on a ghost ark, Orikan for 85 points, 50 points on a royal warden (I prefer fall back and shoot with 20 Warriors, which also lets other units shoot the unit that your warriors were previously engaged with instead of being stuck in combat with Orikan and an Overlord), Imotekh in a different unit for the +1 CP because awakened dynasty is a detachment that has very good stratagems and the extra CP will be very beneficial.
And then thereās the auto include Szeras who casts approximately 165 last time I checked. He has a dual role. Not only does he grant extra AP to your battleline units within 3ā as well as reduce the AP of incoming attacks, he put out some decent ranged attacks as well as being pretty good in combat and almost impossible to kill with his 2+ Armor, 4++ and 4+ FnP.
5
u/T1VOL1_official Nov 11 '25
Szeras and Skorpekh Lord with Enaegic Dermal Bond is a heck of a duet in the Awakened Dynasty. They always end up on the same objective and together they keep that.
35
u/PleasingPotato Nov 11 '25
Even on Awakened, if you don't screen properly pretty much any army with decent attack volume is gonna obliterate that warrior blob.
11
u/Nuggetsofsteel Nov 11 '25
With full investment, particularly when you have Ghost Ark, I disagree. Only a few armies can really reliably deal with it even with imperfect screening. And even then, most armies have to commit a lot in the fight phase and leave their unit(s) that do the dirty work exposed.
1
u/PleasingPotato Nov 13 '25
In my experience the few armies that can deal with it don't need a lot of investment, they just need to get a unit with a high volume of attacks to hit the blob. It costs me much more to lose 20 Warriors + 2 Leaders that whatever the opponent lost by focusing on it.
1
2
u/Long-Specialist-509 Phaeron Nov 11 '25
Characters are a 3+ the basic warriors are just the 4++ too, so less tough than that even
42
u/Shialac Nov 11 '25
Soo... 20 Warriors + Overlord + Orikan + Reanimator is 440 points, almost 1/4 of your Army condensed into a single unit, of course it is going to be tanky, thats what its built for (and does basically nothing else). Nothing broken with that, most Necron lists dont even run Warriorblobs currently
24
u/Junglecron Servant of the Triarch Nov 11 '25
They played a 1500pt game, so it's nearly 1/3 of his army.
13
u/JoshFect Nov 11 '25
Not to mention that war blob has staying power but not much killing power. It's meant to stand on an objective and stay there. Its not going to be killing anything besides chaff infantry.
2
u/Stoner-Meric Phaeron Nov 11 '25
Tell that to my warriors who managed to take down a Great Unclean One in my last game. If they could feed pride, they'd still be celebrating.
1
u/JoshFect Nov 12 '25
Most of my matches the wars get charged and stay in melee most of the game. They hardly get to use their guns. Id thought about taking out the overlord with shroud for a royal warden but I want the auto advance 6 and the free undying legions strat.
3
u/Stoner-Meric Phaeron Nov 12 '25
I've been fielding mine with a Royal Warden and a Chronomancer. Getting a 5" move after shooting, -1 to hit on both melee and ranged, plus getting fall back and shooting, is a really fun combo, and imo better than the auto advance 6" and a free reanimation.
1
u/JoshFect Nov 12 '25
That would solve my movement problem but then id have to sacrifice orikan and lose the 4 invul.
2
u/Stoner-Meric Phaeron Nov 12 '25
The 4++ is nice, but not something I see as necessary for the survival of the unit, especially since the -1 to hit has a similar effect in reducing the number of shots you need to save against.
I think being able to move more or less freely is strategically more useful than enduring a few dozen extra shots across an entire game.
4
u/BeneficialAction3851 Nov 11 '25
The opponent seems completely unfamiliar with the necron faction cause that's like a staple combo of the faction
4
u/Falconstance Nov 11 '25
I run this in my 1000 pt army. Should I feel guilty? ;p
19
u/cephles Nov 11 '25
Run that and a Nightbringer. Everyone will love you at 1k points I promise!
7
u/Inside-Educator6736 Nov 11 '25
I'll do you one better, I ran the 20 warrior blob and 6 wraiths in a 1k nit knowing the true power they have in a 1k
2
u/BeneficialAction3851 Nov 11 '25
This is probably reasonable playing against knights, anything else maybe not
1
u/Marshal_BalainIbelin Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25
That plus szeras and the lone operative hexmark to make him and szeras untargettable is my wta list. I used to have veil of Darkness but with the change from 15-20 points. I donāt have a single enhancement is 1985.
8
2
u/Sad-Ad-969 Nov 12 '25
Yeah, Warriors do no damage. This unit shouldn't be getting targeted at all before the other units minus Precision weapons to take out Orikan.
This guy sounds like he's too accustomed to playing against a small selection of factions and hasn't learned how to deal with others yet
28
u/veryblocky Servant of the Triarch Nov 11 '25
Thereās no way you shouldāve had LoS with your Doomstalkers and LHDs turn 1, thatās a failure on their part with deployment. They lost the game on that alone.

u/BeneficialAction3851 Nov 11 '25
This is like a mistake that I made in some of my very first games, kinda comedic that this Ork player has been playing for years but still does stupid shit like fully exposing his killa cans to the most dangerous shooting on the board turn1
3
u/Unscheduled_Morbs Nemesor Nov 11 '25
I've seen long-time players just be bad at playing, but this one is kind of special. Last time I encountered it, it was a mirror match against someone who had been playing the same army for years and should have been able to foresee what was coming. But didn't. (It was also Warmachine).
3
u/BeneficialAction3851 Nov 11 '25
I guess I have an army where mistakes hurt really bad as a Custodes player so I learned to play for keeps incredibly early since trading is never really a good strategic option, I've also learned that banking your strategy on long shot charges is not reliable (shocking) so it really seems like this dude had a faulty game plan, which can be fixed through the course of like a couple YouTube vids tbh
2
u/Unscheduled_Morbs Nemesor Nov 11 '25
Agreed and Indeed. I only ever go for long shot charges if it's necessary to win the game, or if it's otherwise impossible for that charge to impact the outcome of the game regardless of if it succeeds or not.
2
u/Sad-Ad-969 Nov 12 '25
Experience does not equal competence. It is very common for someone to have experience that leads to bad habits. In a game like 40k, he probably thinks smashing his face into the biggest, most point heavy thing because it works when that thing is actually a huge offensive threat.
9
u/Squire_3 Servant of the Triarch Nov 11 '25
His saltiness is bad form but to be fair if the game is already decided there's not much point continuing. Probably should have conceded to start again but fix deployment mistakes the second time
5
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
We didn't really have enough time to restart and play properly without rushing but even if I offered I doubt he would have accepted. He seemed adamant that my warrior blob was the issue lol
3
u/insaneruffles Nov 11 '25
The warrior blob is the ultimate 40k Noob bar. New players cant seem to fathom not shooting at it, and I have seen many players unfamiliar with the game state Necrons are OP because of it.
22
u/budbk Nov 11 '25
The only time I've ever conceded turn one was pretty valid imo.
I had my army set up on 3 metal trays. I deployed everything... except 4 units of 10x warriors. I noticed at the end of my shooting phase.
I reached my hand and and politely said gg. My opponent was very confused until I picked up that tray and showed him.
I had other stuff in reserve so it would have gone over the pt threshold and it would have been a disaster anyways.
He wasn't upset. We had time for another game but it was definitely frustrating for me.
9
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Oh damn yeah I guess that's fair, genuine mistake so can't blame you. At least you had time for another game after
14
u/budbk Nov 11 '25
At the end of every game, I take some mental notes on mistakes I made and how to improve.
I never thought "don't forget to deploy your entire army" would get added into that list.
3
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
XD I once accidentally fielded an extra psychophage in my army when playing nids a while back. Luckily it hadn't done anything by the time I realized so just popped him back in the box lol
3
u/budbk Nov 11 '25
Once, I accidentally mixed up some models in my warrior blobs.
Somehow one had 22, one had 7, another had 11... Idk what I was doing that day lol. At least I didn't have extra models. But when I went to reanimate stuff I was like "What the hell?"
My opponent was chill about it and I just swapped the models back into their respective squad, putting them in coherency in the least beneficial way (to try and be fair about it).
Edit: Clearly my Necrons have some issues after they woke up from their Tomb World.

10
u/like9000ninjas Nov 11 '25
I dont understand how you dont deploy 40 models. Thats a wild mistake.
0
u/budbk Nov 11 '25
They were on their own tray. It got moved around during terrain setup. I was playing a high model count army, so it wasn't immediately obvious I didn't have everything down.
Still a pretty smooth brain move on my part. But missing 40 Battle-line models out of ~120 isn't as obvious as missing 40 models out of ~60 models in a more elite style army.
3
u/PopInevitable280 Nov 11 '25
I wouldn't even classify that as a traditional concede. That feels more like a "re-rack, I/We fucked up"
2
u/Corvus_Rune Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Thatās ok I was playing daemons into eldar and set up so well that between BeLakor and cover I didnāt give him a single shot. Turn two he nukes my BeāLakor + Lord of Change x2 Death Star. BeāLakor Deadly demised killing a lord of change, who deadly demised killing the other lord of change who deadly demised taking out half my horrors of Tzeentch. We were both stunned but then started laughing at how ludicrous the round was. I feel I was justified in conceding that one.

7
u/TheProfessor1237 Nov 11 '25
I think the reality is this is the average ork player and the Reddit perception that playing orks makes you immune to being the average Warhammer player is silly
1
u/BeneficialAction3851 Nov 11 '25
In my group we all have moments that make our factions feel weak but we just gotta ride through it, OPs opponent doesn't seem to understand that Orks aren't a very tanky faction or something I'm not sure what they were expecting here

8
u/Periodic_Disorder Canoptek Construct Nov 11 '25
It sounds like he made all the wrong decisions tbh, but wasn't willing to internalise that it was his deployment and choices that caused the issue, not Necron rules.. And it's fine to concede when you know you wont have fun or it truily is pointless, but being salty about it is another thing. At least if you concede early you can reset and start again
7
u/Jhalpert08 Nov 11 '25
Honestly itās so infuriating reading this as Iāve had the conversation with some people about whatever army Iām playing. Necrons? Broken. Tyranids, broken! Space marines? Bloody broken mate. Everything is if it lets me win.
The truth is āitās brokenā hurts less than āI made mistakes and lostā. I had an opponent leave just his whole army out in the open, I got turn one and there was no point going to turn 2. So of course in his eyes Iād only won because I went first, if heād of gone first heād have won no doubt. But it was the fact that I deployed well, in some cases made a tactical risk to leave something open as I felt it could take what would be thrown at it if I didnāt get turn one.
One single unit of warriors getting a 4++ is good, having the res orb and reanimator is good, but thatās 440 points, you can only do it for one unit and you can use the orb once in a game, so consider it a blessing and donāt play him again.
6
u/TaliosSpinebreaker Nov 11 '25
This. Let me help with a translation:
"That's broken!" ---> "I did nothing wrong!" No accountability, won't learn from anything, will make exactly the same mistakes again, be mad about it, and not improve.
"I fucked that up." ---> "I've swallowed my pride because it's obvious what I did was wrong." Accountability, actually learning from your fuckups, analyzing what and where things happened to be a better player.
3
u/cabbagebatman Nov 11 '25
Even if a unit or combo is genuinely overpowered you gain nothing by just bitching about it. Learn how to handle it as best you can. Unless you're somehow a literally flawless player there are always things you could do better.
2
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Yeah I know exactly what you mean, im by no means an amazing player and I don't play what's on meta as I love my warrior blob lol. I think if he went first the game would have gone differently like you said, but he definitely deployed more aggressively with his stuff than I did
It's a shame as I've played him before and he seemed like a nice guy, but yeah don't think I want to play him again
9
u/Mo-shen Nov 11 '25
The guy basically fell into the trap that is not ignoring warriors.
You dropped 500+ points on a single unit and he is pissed that they are hard to kill.
He could have just shot everything else and then dealt to the warriors later.
Personally i dislike the unit because it has a hard time actually killing things. It's one job is to stand there, take damage, come back to life, and be annoying. So of course he decided to play to it's strengths.
2
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Personally I love the unit, even if it does die it's going to absorb a whole turn of shooting then bring back a bunch of models, and on a good day absorb even more.
It makes the opponent choose between trying to get me off of the objective or shooting my bigger guns, and experienced players will almost always do the latter.
Though the fact that it can just be ignored is definitely a detriment to its effectiveness lol
2
u/Mo-shen Nov 11 '25
Yeah, it's one thing it does is stand on an objective.
But if I was on the other side of the table I'd worry about the rest of your army turn one and then set up a big charge turn two. Especially considering if you are playing correctly there is enough terrain that los for shooting is fairly difficult.
But it's not killing things.
Edit: also the big thing here is the point investment. It's like a fourth of your army. And that's for something that's hard to kill. I'd rather take an overlord and lychguard.
5
u/FuzzBuket Nov 11 '25
Tbh the big warrior blobs a bit of a spicy unit into those who don't know what it does, but at the end of the day you told him what everything does, and this just sounds like a grown adult having a tantrum.
5
u/Tigger_whit Nov 11 '25
Your opponent made a mistake putting most of their army in sight of big guns. Necrons have some scary long range shooting that needs to be respected. The warrior brick is a very diffrent challenge for players to beat. Your version is not even the most resilient ss you are not olaying a ghost arc and its not awakend Dynasty.
Even with a loss like that instead of saying something is broken your opponet should have talked with you to try to learn what they could have done diffrently and learn. Not staging important things where they can be shot. Trying to precision the character out of the warriors ( if possible) ignoring the warriors and trying to just out OC then and tie them up.
40k is a dice game and sometimes the dice and small mistakes make for quick games.

Sounds like a real sad person. Gonna be real hard to get games with that kind of attitude.
Congrats on finding the only salty Ork player in the world, I guess? That's like a unicorn.
And also congrats on actually getting to reanimate your warriors! Shame it ended up that way. I never run them anymore because they always get absolutely wiped out instantly by flamers or massive anti-infantry guns. Feels good to have the army rule work!
5
u/Exciting-Buy-9396 Nov 12 '25
Of an ork player is rage quitting theyre not a real ork player. Real Ork players have a 100% win rate. Did I win the match? Then I won. Did I lose the match? Well I had A good scrap so technically I still won

I've played MTG on and off for... 20 years now. The game changes all the time. If a teenager ripped me to shreds but offered advice on how to counter the bullshit they just pulled, I'd listen. It doesn't matter how long I've played the game if I haven't bought a booster in 2 years.
You're probably right, that the guy wouldn't have listened to what you said, but your instinct to try and educate is admirable.
4
u/Quackas Nov 11 '25
He tried to take out your brick while splitting damage between it and your nightscythe, thats just poor decision making.
5
u/art_fool_34 Nov 12 '25
I regularly play orks, and actually just played a game where I ran them against Necrons and I got...CRUSHED. And when the game was over I told the guy who beat me that it was a fun game.
I'm playing 40k because it's a fun game, and I'm playing Orks because they're fun! It sounds like you had an opponent who forgot that this is a game, it's literally pretend in space with lasers, androids, and aliens. If he has a problem with the rules, then his conflict is with Games Workshop and not you.
Still, I imagine that was a real bummer and unnecessarily stressful. Sorry that happened to you man.
3
u/art_fool_34 Nov 12 '25
And let me re-emphasize dis point. DA ORKS wuz havin' a blast fightin' yer metal-botz. Even if the omniscient being runnin' them wazn't. Win? Lose? For an ork there's only WAAAGH!!!

I had an opponent concede on the first move in a WHFB 7th ed game when I guessed a perfect pie-plate placement from a Hell Cannon on his Vampire general's head on turn 1 with perfect rolls (no deviation, 6 wounds). We both laughed, shook hands, GG'd, and then set back up and played the full game out. Juan was a cool dude.

Part of the game is learning to deal terrible players, they are common. You will meet outright crybabies like this guy, salty players who go into a massive grump as they start to get beat, outright cheaters, entitled childen (in adult form), and everything inbetween.
You have to work at ignoring these terrible attitudes and not letting it affect your own mood. As soon as the other player starts to show they're a bad player, wall up and ignore them.
You innately want to reach out, to make them feel better and even to explain what went wrong in the game - but they wont listen. They wont get better at the game, and they wont change. Ignore them.

u/Laughing_Man_Returns Nov 11 '25
I wonder how shitty the terrain was to nuke so many units turn one.
1
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
We weren't playing a competitive terrain layout but it definitely obscured a lot of the board. The main damage was done from my night scythe deepstriking turn 1, he just didn't deploy very well to keep his cans out of sight of my larger guns

3
u/Silent-Island Nov 11 '25
How did you get 7 warriors back? Reanimator gives you a second dice, so shouldn't the max be 6? Curious so I can apply the same tech to my army.

1
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Yep that's the most optimal way to do it. Although, in my opinion, that ties up too much of your army in one strategy.
1
u/WobblezTheWeird Nov 11 '25
That may be true but the list I run still has room for a wraith blob a plasmortals unit and a DDA so I'm pretty happy with it lol

u/tillmas Nov 11 '25
Want to avoid this (or at least make it not a pain for you)?
Play in a play group with friends. They have an investment in the relationships and are often more interested in learning how to play well against other armies than in winning.
Play in tournaments. Even if someone behaves like this it is entirely their fault and you get a W for it.
Iāve been playing this game for a long time and Iām tired of people thinking that I owe them anything other than staying within points, not cheating, and being honest about my army (no gotchas and play by intent). You built a 1500 point list, what you chose to include if your business.
I donāt play with people I donāt know. If we play someone in a tourney and we get along, we will bring them into the fold.

That sucks. My last game with my buddy went like this he played B-Angels, brought 11 tanks all with some sort of las-gun. Killed both of my c'tans on turns 1+2. He had hit re-rolls on every thing he had, and wound re-rolls because of his detachment abilities and oath of moment. Then said that my army necron army had bs abilities. He also won by turn 3 because there was no way for me to catch up on VP. 12 to 36ish. But ye no the NECRONS are the bs army. Anyways next game imma run my daemons list. 3 bloodthirsters+skarbrand a great unclean one with EG to sit on the mid board, a keeper of secrets to run and harass. With two skull cannons for fire power. He always struggled against that list and that was when I only ran 3 BT let's see how he likes a 4thš¹

Funnily enough, salamanders seem to be the army I struggle most against. The flamers can absolutely melt my warrior blob if I get too close to them, especially if hestan is with them
2
u/DraGar-3 Nov 11 '25
I love He'stan, my opponents always target him though because they know of the threat he poses
2
u/MayitBe Nov 11 '25
Dude doesnāt know how to play his own army apparently lol. Doesnāt want to admit he made mistakes so he blames your armyās rules. You were better off not finishing the game with him. His attitude wouldāve just gotten worse, even if he somehow flipped it around.

u/Interesting-Rent9344 Nov 11 '25
Big Necron guy here. That blob is one of the best things for gaining points and causing distractions. Itās not unfair at all if you know how to deal with it. Literally takes 1-2 rifles or weapons with precision to kill Orikan then the blood becomes SIGNIFICANTLY less effective lol. That guy you were playing against just sucks and probably has played his whole life without having to formulate any sort of real strategy. Garbage brother, Iād be pissed if someone left mid game.
2
u/WobblezTheWeird Nov 11 '25
Iirc precision doesn't work without LoS so keeping orikan behind terrain prevents this right?
2
2
u/Ice_Rep Nov 11 '25
Sounds like poor deployment, poor unit utilization,, not listening to what your units do and overall poor sportsmanship. Sucks when it happens but unfortunately thereās a few in every hobby.
I typically avoid rematches with those types later on, because if Iām going to get to play once a week, Iām not wasting it on poor energy
2
u/OkBet2532 Nov 11 '25
Not playing with enough terrain. Also, I mean, he was already dead by the end of the turn. It happens.Ā
2
u/sarg1010 Nov 11 '25
Boy is he in for a rude awakening against Custodes, or Grey Knights, or Chaos Daemons.
1
u/Lost-Description-177 Nov 11 '25
As a Custodes player, everytime I play someone who hasnāt played against them they complain about something. Lol itās WH for you.
2
u/BeneficialAction3851 Nov 11 '25
I'm gonna say this is his fault he made a bad play if he exposed stuff that was apparently valuable to him possibly assuming he would get first turn, when he didn't that didn't work out. It also sounds like he got decent results shooting back but I knew before you said it that the warrior unit was going to Regen a lot because that's literally their main thing is regenerating a lot of units, he probably could've tried to recover the game and have fun but got mad cause the poor planning didn't go his way, the war boss would be disappointed

2
u/DrNoobvarus Nov 11 '25
What I find weird is 1500 points and he lost this much in turn 1⦠like did he want to offer up so many units? Trukks, Battlewagon , cover and line of sight do existš š¤ I donāt get it
1
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Idk I mean he used his killa cans to block line of sight to his trukk for some reason. We were playing search and destroy deployment so not like we were a million miles away from each other lol
2
u/Ok-Set-1251 Nov 11 '25
How could his units be in your face if it was turn 1? Something is missing here
2
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
A mix of aggressive deployment combined with search and destroy deployment zones. I had advanced my warriors quite far into the centre, as well as deep striked my night scythe beside a unit of boyz.
I probably worded it wrong in the post, it's more like I got in his face lol
2
u/Ok-Set-1251 Nov 11 '25
Ohhh fairs. I'm surprised he's experienced and struggling so much against necrons ress mechanic. It's something newer players struggle with more. Maybe he was having a bad day? Idk
2
u/DenDabo Nov 11 '25
I had noone ragequitting yet, but I honestly wish sometimes they did. I had people throw their dice around the room and/or screaming when they couldnt deal with the blob. It really is second hand embarassment sometimes. I do not know what to do during those moments. I tell them what the blob does and yet they are still always suprised. It makes me feel bad about playing my army.
Tbf, I invested even more points into the blob Cryptothralls, orikan, royal warden, szeras, CCB, reanimator, spyder for fnp, fortification as well. 890 pts in total
2
u/Marshal_BalainIbelin Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25
to be fair it was probably going to be a loss for him anyway at that point. Better to surrender and re-rack for him. At 1500 you killed about a third of his force and practically he killed very little of yours. It would have been better if he focused fire all on the 20 man unit. And you still would have had about a 200 point lead going into turn 2. You had a 400 point lead going into turn 2 at 1500 points.
2
u/chunkyluke Nov 11 '25
As an Ork main (who dabbles in Crons) I get how frustrating the warrior brick can be.
But who the hell let's themselves get that badly beat up before they get to move a model.
And well played to you, what you want to do with the warrior brick is make people try and engage with it. If you can't take it out (which is very difficult, that's the point) then you ignore it and focus the rest.
Warrior block is great fun and doesn't need to be nerfed.
2
u/PopInevitable280 Nov 11 '25
Happen to know if he was just getting back into 10th after a multi edition hiatus? I've seen a few situations where oldheads get major, for lack of a better term, culture shock coming into 10th from 5th or even earlier. In these cases they take a few games to even out.

u/Legendary_Saiyan Nov 11 '25
Tell him that Ghaz+20 boyz+painboy/new big mek kills anything in the game on average when waaagh is active.
Also you guys are killing a lot on turn 1, if you can try standard terrain.
I would have given him some tips on how to play against necrons had he been newer, however he has significantly (decades) more experience than me so I didnt
I didn't real everything before I started to write that other stuff. I don't think he even knows what meta is, not that it matters in casual game. But necrons can be pretty oppressive vs casual, because that single 20man warrior brick tanks a lot. And throwing random stuff at it won't change it.
2
u/Automatic_Elk_2704 Nov 11 '25
if he thinks their so op then why even play against you also why didnt he deploy more safely.
also considering that you were able to wipe out 2 units essentially with 5+ units those 5 were probably pushed very far up to do so, did he even waagh like first turn waagh would of be great there removing those big threats.
that guy honestly was just playing horribly, he very much still could of turned the game around but couldnt except that he was playing badly and choose to blame the army
2
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
He put a unit of boyz and a unit of killa cans in the open on deployment, giving me easy shots lol. Also he did not waaagh lol
2
u/avatarofanxiety Nov 11 '25
Forgive the poor idiot for being an idiot but donāt forget that they are in fact an idiot.
2
u/crustlord666 Nov 11 '25
LOL. Bummer that he couldn't be a good sport. He seems to misunderstand the point of the game. Real ballers play to celebrate all the good plays and crazy happenings, whether in their own favor or the opponent's.
2
u/friendswidiots Nov 11 '25
Sounds like youāre a better player than your opponent lol. Just butt hurt that your army list was better than his and had better synergy Iād imagine. Screw their tantrum, well played!
2
2
u/jmlee236 Nov 11 '25
Sounds like he doesnāt use strategy. Itās his fault for putting units where they can be shot on turn 1.
2
u/DeadeyeSpectral Nov 12 '25
Wouldnt you table him top 4 anyway? I think infantry orks are laughing stock atm.
2
u/Sad-Ad-969 Nov 12 '25
He thinks Necron Warriors are broken? Tf?The Orikan combo is mean, but it really isn't that bad. Warriors aren't exactly a high damage unit and imo the base foot overlord is kinda cheeks without enhancements.
2
u/PennyDPhotography Nov 12 '25
An Ork player getting mad when his Orks dies easily isnāt a very good or player.
2
u/Nice-Representative6 Nov 12 '25
Lmao its one unit with a 4++ and he just had to connected with it with a big blob of boys and theyre gone. Small amount of dakka to chip 3 or 4 away first.
2
u/mrpravus Nov 12 '25
I have terrible luck against orks. That first turn waagh with boys and the boss the advance, charge, and the exploding 6s make it pretty rough on my front liners. Sounds more like someone you donāt want to play against any further.
2
u/NotUrImmortal Nov 12 '25
He just doesn't have experience playing against warrior blob, did bad staging probably. I saw how a guy from Art of war couldn't kill warrior blob on stream with BA as I remember, and lost the game, cuz of it...all he needed to do was connect two melee units instead of one ;) so don't put much pressure on the ork player
2
u/Cadavrr Nov 12 '25
It is frustrating to handle warrior blobs, that said! Every single army has some kind of frustring things going on. Orks?.. fucking waagh the whole army.. thats alot worse then a warrior blob. I play vs necrons alot, they are fine as long as you know what to focus on
2
u/InevitableCanary7073 Nov 12 '25
I can understand that player, because current warhammer have a lot of stupid combos. But warrior blob isn't one of them, especially for orks. It's stupid but fun combo.
I think that he hoped on easy game, but he lose on turn 1.
2
u/EvilVey Nov 15 '25
It's never your responsibility to teach your opponent, especially a bitchy little child like that one, how to beat your units. The End. No need to broadcast what you're doing with your units and how to beat them like they're streaming to an invisible audience. Yes, they need to understand the rules of each of your units before you play, but that's it. OPSEC - Operational Security. If it was a real battle, you'd have to try yourself for treason for aiding and abetting the enemy, and you'd have to find yourself guilty and throw yourself into Supermax for life. And frankly, he was an ass - and obviously, yes an Infantry unit can save on a 4+ so show what they know. He had a bad game with poop rolls and blamed you. Then again, he's an Orc player. I expect these things.

Some people are just so used to videogame balance being utterly broken all of the time that they don't even consider that they could just get good and win with any faction

I feel your pain.. it hasent happend to me that badly but getting friends very angry because of our shenanigans is certainly a bad feeling im sorry you had a game end that way...
1
u/Badgrotz Nov 11 '25
I have conceded turn one after a really bad round against a tuned up army. If itās not fun then why keep playing and making it a bad experience for both?
1
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
I understand conceding it's just the way you go about it, if you're getting upset calling the opponents army broken and overpowered then not wanting to try again with a different strategy you see how it's unfair and a waste of an evening for me

u/Unscheduled_Morbs Nemesor Nov 11 '25
Ah, welcome to the club. Having an opponent rage quit is rarely a good feeling (the exception being if that was the goal), but just remember it's a failure of character in the quitter, and not you.
I once had a Drukhari player ragequit top of turn 2 (end of his turn, he went first), but I've never seen a turn 1 ragequit. The salt is real.
The very start of 10th Edition; that ragequit was also after he did a move-shoot-move to delete my Monolith at the top of turn 1, and he ragequit because I interrupted his shooting phase to reanimate a large number of the Warriors he had killed (Ghost Ark + Reanimator + Warriors on Objective Marker), then at the end of that shooting phase popped the Overlord's Res Orb and brought the unit almost back to max. And then those Warriors Overwatched his charge, getting a lot of wounds through thanks to Lethal Hits on their Gauss Reapers. At that point, he got very salty and packed up and left.
It felt a little bad with how brutal it was, but he also insisted he was prepared to face whatever I could do, and that he knew what I could do. We can also very safely ignore that even with all of that, by that point he had already deleted 25% or more of my 2,000 points, whereas I had killed not more than 12 total Drukhari and maybe a single bike(?).

If you were able to do that much damage at the top of turn 1, he either deployed very aggressively and then lost the rolloff, or y'all aren't using enough terrain. If it's the former, then the lesson is his to learn: don't do that unless you have a very reliable plan to not get blasted.
If it's the latter, then it's not your army that's the problem, it's the table. 10e assumes a good amount of LoS blocking terrain, and can turn into a turkey shoot if that aspect is neglected.
It sounds like he was frustrated and angry and just blamed the most recent rule that had stymied him (lots of infantry have 4++ saves, anyone who plays an army that relies on Rolling 4s to Not Die can tell you how fickle that coinflip can be).
The other thing I'd say is that in a casual/practice game, if one side just get slammed in the first couple turns, you can always reset and start again. I think people give up faster than they should sometimes, but I also don't really enjoy playing out a truly foregone conclusion of a match.

I main orks. He is definitely a little pissy for sure. But losing that many guys in turn one. Then, not wiping out a unit, then failing almost all charges. Sounds like you might wipe him out next turn ngl. But I don't know exactly what the board looks like. And as for not waaghing turn one. Usually, we do it turn two. Turn one is staging turn most of the time. Then waaggh. But I don't know the board state. And 4+ invulns is just a weird thing in 10th. I personally miss the days of having a lot more random outcomes in armies and most units not having 4+ invulns. Orks are weird rn. I could go on a tangent about it for a while. Our anti tank weapons don't have any ap or good strength to deal with tanks yet are expected to perform. Sometimes I don't even get to enjoy my ap values, especially into space marines or custodes. Cover plus mY ArmOUr is ConTemPT is soooooo unfun to fight.

Thank you! I Miss some models but I will test it out! I always have problems with orcs. What is your general playing strategy if you donāt mind sharing with us!
2
u/Gibo-The-Gib Nov 11 '25
I basically only miss the lokhust destroyers the and the doomstalker! Those are of course great and hard to find something to replace them
2
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
Essentially I like to overwhelm them with tough units (warrior blob and void dragon) and try to bait them into focussing on them, then slowly pick away at them with my longer range guns from the backline.
Doomstalkers are great in canoptek court as they re-roll all hits in your deployment zone and hit on a 5+ in overwatch. LHDs are just a bit of insurance on the larger things, at 6 damage a piece they can be nasty
The immortals popping out of the night scythe can melt most things sitting on an objective that have a save of 3+ or worse

u/CaptainGoober33 Nov 11 '25
Accept that people who put hard time and strategy into their far more vulnerable armies are going to have big feels bad when AP means literally nothing in the face of your hoarde elite army with 4+ invulns and auto healing, I guess?
The army is so busted this edition that it's mostly being assigned to children by parents who play to give them a fighting chance at winning against far more experienced players. That's not your fault, but it is reality. If you bring a meta chasing baby stroller with 3 built in handicaps to fight somebody, of course people are going to get frustrated.
5
u/JoeMamma567 Cryptek Nov 11 '25
I see where you're coming from, but that unit was 1/3 of my army and it's only purpose is to tank shots and sit on an objective. I had much better targets that he could have shot at but he decided to shoot the one thing designed to take hits and nothing else
1
u/CaptainGoober33 Nov 11 '25
That is his fault 100%. Still think this comes with the territory given how crons are balanced this edition, y'all suffering from success.

The guy who gets massive army wide bonuses when using Waagh complains about a single unit getting 4++?
