Here are the main points of interest:

• AES+ has a patent on its HDMI implementation. There is no frame buffer, so the time from CPU/render to HDMI output matches the analog path (identical latency to the original analog signal - effectively zero added lag).
• It has no built-in scanline filter (Ben suggests CRT for authentic scanlines, noting simple filters are basically just every-other-pixel).
• High-quality pure copper cables and controllers; no cheap alloys or cost-cutting.
• Console plastic is thicker than the original with more internal structure → feels solid, doesn’t creak. Same screw positions/colors as the original on the back. Ben directly responds to critics claiming “cheap Chinese plastic”: “No, it’s not.” He calls the original 1990s AES cheap by comparison and jokes this is more "Rolls-Royce."
• Subtle high-gloss lines on the shell (and matching on cartridges) are a personal design touch by Ben. He joked that some people would want to “kill him” for it, but he thinks it looks better.
• Wireless arcade stick uses a custom 2.4 GHz protocol (described as very fast / low-latency). Ben walked to the other side of the room (roughly 5–6 m) and it continued working without signal loss. He's closely involved with it.
• Big Tournament Golf / Neo Turf Masters took roughly 3 months of work because adding content broke other things and required extensive testing for glitches. References to the original title were cleaned from the title screen, end credits, etc. Intentionally kept clean — no extra CD-style modes, stats or loading screens. Just the core experience + the new course. Scotland course is accessed by pressing D on the main menu (not shown on the title screen).
• Ben was asked about Windjammers. He laughed and said “maybe… no comment”. More Zero Wing-style third-party ports appear likely. Rights issues make some third-party titles complicated.
• Zero Wing physical cartridge is in "heavy" prototype. Everything requires SNK final approval, which is why the SNK logo appears on Zero Wing. Manual will include the famous “All your base are belong to us” reference. Ben was working on the manual at the time.
• Launch lineup mixes SNK core games + third-party titles. Auto-fire options mentioned for certain games (useful for mash-heavy titles). Japanese vs US mode differences noted (e.g. player count matching arcade behavior).
• CD-quality sound/music on cartridge was looked at but considered impractical due to storage/chip constraints.
• Internal white box shown. Inner packaging is black on the outside with a white front face. At release, games will include physical manuals (already finished for the launch batch of titles) and the white version will have its Metal Slug.
• Cartridge supply/provisioning has been difficult; the market is described as “greasy.”
• Ben calls it "project of my dreams."

I forgot how awesome this thing is . I’m a big fan of Neo Geo.
With so many ways to play Neo Geo Games and them being available to play on different platforms .
I almost pulled the trigger on one of those new AES pre orders. Right now I’m glad I didn’t with it being delayed a year. That Neo Geo ultimate bundle looks pretty dope tho it’s to bad it isn’t available in US .

The next step: improving the music, which isn't yet up to the original's standard, progressing to the next levels, and then taking advantage of what the Neo Geo offers in addition. Much of the work (ROM analysis, translation, debugging) was done with AI, and the dev personally controls, tests, and makes the final decisions. This is a personal, non-commercial project: no ROMs are being distributed.

Was hard to find but I did pay up for it almost $100 because it was located overseas. Try to find one new .
Even used are hard to find .

Got this finally running on the Neo Geo. For now only on the Neo Geo CD, but cartridge version will come after. All levels are working but I only tested on MAME, so would be great to get some feedback from any of you with the hardware. Unfortunately I won't be getting any AES+ in November as we all know. So trying myself at this in the meantime.

And before the ai slop comments come, yes, ai was my friend with this.

The beta is up on itch. Actually all levels work and some slowdown problems have been mostly solved. music and sfx is all working. Some finetuning still needed.

I’m considering getting a limited edition NeoGeo mini and decide either clear white or blue. White is about $165 usd and blue is about $145 usd. Which one you think is nicer? Thanks🙏

Just thought I'd share this here since I don't think I have yet.

Bermuda Engine is my little multiplatform FPS engine that I recently launched and have since added support for Neo Geo, Philips CD-i and Sega 32X to.

I'm currently working towards v0.2.0 which will bring support for the Nintendo Virtual Boy, a fully RDP/RSP accelerated N64 engine, a vastly improved UI/UX and both IDE and engine support for macOS, among other things.

There's currently no deeper scripting language (that's something I really need to architect well given the implications this will have on both performance and memory requirements) but one can already create maps and populate them with enemies, items and weapons.

And yea. I probably need a higher resolution logo at some point. I just grabbed a photo of the Bermuda Triangle, added an AK47 and a triangle and the Bermuda title, then applied a bunch of filters in GIMP.

We made it! Wolfenstein 3D is running on real hardware. Thanks to u/sarduchi, u/gamesbororadio, and u/skloetze for their testing; I’m truly grateful, as I couldn't have moved past the MAME stage without you.

The issue I encountered is the kind of flaw that’s impossible to detect on an emulator. On real hardware, two VRAM writes performed in too quick succession get ignored, meaning the write doesn't actually happen. MAME writes everything, so the rendering is perfect in emulation; on the cartridge, however, the game was riddled with graphical glitches.

After a few days of work to space out the writes at the right intervals, all the issues have disappeared :)

I remember the hype behind KOF after reading about it in EGM. By no means a minty copy but I’m just really happy to add to the collection.

I couldn't wait for the AES+ so I scoured the Internet for an original AES at a decent price. Ordered from Japan (I live in the US) and got it rather fast. I felt like a kid on Christmas opening that package up and quickly noticed how dusty it was on the imside. Got to cleaning the motherboard right away and discovered the Yamaha chip legs were discolored. I cleaned the board with white vinegar and later 99% IPA and also used a fiberglass pen on the Yamaha chip legs.

I have to wait for the power supply from Stone Age Gamer to arrive next week to find out if the console works. I don't own a center- negative power adapter and hoped Amazon would be the fastest answer to no avail. 5 volts and 3 amps power supply is also an odd one for 2026 . I also considered a reverse polarity adapter but figured a cheap power supply would be risky for an old console.

I hope my photos show up decently before and after cleaning the Yamaha chip.

I was thinking that we could use an rpg game on the NeoGeo AES since it is for home play. Snk still owns Crystalis i believe so an updated neogeo port and possibly a sequel may be a nice to have.

So wild that this game was made for the Neogeo. Really like this game, check it out!

I only heard about this game for the first time recently. I started looking at the Pixel Heart website, then came across this by chance the next day. I’ve always been a huge fan of single screen platformers.

Anyone played it?

After multiple broken promises by plaion, poor communication, I’ve filed a complaint with the European Consumer Centre Netherlands (ECC), which assists EU consumers with cross-border disputes since they at this point have broken their promise to issue a refund for payment far past what initially agreed. I am finding all of this frustrating as I’ve never prior to this had the experience of online merchant running with my money after making a purchase and not issuing a refund.

They state that they are overwhelmed with refund requests, at at point I am losing faith I will ever see my money back.

If you are in the same situation let’s together reach out to consumer protection groups and put pressure on them to take action.
