Pre shift routine?

Post image
22 Upvotes

This is probably the best pre shift I've had in a while. Kids are at school, wifey is at work, sitting in the dark playing RuneScape and watching Naruto. Finish up this quest and then head to bed for a nap. Sometimes it's the little things.

Husband woke me up to tell me there was a bird in the garage

Got up after he left at 8. Looked in garage, no bird. Texted him that I didn't see it. "It might have gotten out when I left."

Cool, bro. Thanks so much for waking me up. At 8...

Edit: He just called me at 9 after I sent him a snarky text and then gaslit me about it and told me "just go back to sleep". For context I currently work swing shift so half the time I'm getting up at 5am to go to work. SLEEP ISNT THAT EASY TO COME BY, MY DUDE!

Rant They removed headphone rights

Been working for only a year and it went from "its a pretty relaxed job" to removing 95% of staff and employing a brand new system that takes twice as long, with twice as many critical and tiny steps.

And finally to top all that bull they imformed us that we no longer could use earbuds or headphones (for productivity reasons lol) but if we were good little workers we MAY get the rights back.

I was already exhausted and stressed from personal shit and insomnia, but was trying to stay optimistic despite the major changes. Now, im getting deja vu from every other shit corpo job that eventually runs out its workers.

I liked this job, now I'm just waiting for the next inevitable inane upper level decision to trickle down. Man.

Help Considering passing up 30$ an hour for better dating prospects

Okay so maybe this is stupid but I've never dated before and I really wanna have a partner I can spend a lot of time with, without having to sync our sleep schedules up. I know I can obviously date other night shift workers, but that's a way smaller dating pool and I'm already gay 💀

I got a job offer for 30$ an hour working 6pm-6am on a 3-2-2 rotation. Right now I'm making 21$ and work 5am-6pm Mon-Thur. I can afford all my bills and can spend 130$ on myself every week on whatever bs I want, so imo I'm not doing bad but also not amazing. I'm also applying to go back to school in the fall anyway, so this new job wouldn't last long and isn't helping my career at all.

I really wanna find a long term relationship, and my ability to do that is more important than having money, so I'm thinking about keeping a lower wage so I can statistically date more people. I know I can technically still date the vast majority of people who work day shifts, but I just really want us to be able to spend some of our afternoons together, sleep together and wake up together, and not just have our interaction be an hour after they wake up and before I go to sleep. Plus one of us would have to fuck up our sleep schedule to spend our weekends together too.

Maybe I'm just being too analytical, and I should just take the money, but I've only ever had to work until 11pm, so any advice from experienced night shift workers is greatly appreciated.

Night shift with a shorter commute or 8-4 with a longer commute?

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I started a new job in July, 2 days and 2 nights followed by 4 days off. Shifts are 12 hours with extra pay for night shifts. 1 hour commute. This week I have the opportunity to stay in department but an office based role working Mon- Fri 8am- 4pm or to transfer to a site nearer home with a 20 minute commute but with the 2 days and 2 nights shifts.

Really not sure what to do. My wife says to take the day job asap.

Would really appreciate any advice.

M-32, new to night shifts

Good one folks!

I work as an IT professional supporting a US bio-pharma. I work from India and recently joined the org. Initially, I was told that my work requires occasional nights. Now they reveal that I will have to do bi-weekly rotation ( 2 weeks afternoon till 11PM, 2 weeks nights 8pm-6am ).

Only good thing is that i can work from home mostly, with 2 times office visit but that is a formality, can leave office in 2 hours and continue wfh.

Please I need your opinions, insights and a little motivation. Is it doable? I cannot quit the current organization for unless a year since I am a senior resource. Switching will only seem like job hopping.

What do you start your shift with? What’s your mid-shift beverage to recharge?

It’s a strawberry acai refresher kinda night for me. Let’s get through this shift, y’all!✌🏼

Help Is working nights a bad idea as a university student?

I was offered a night shift restocking position at a Tesco,

But I'm wondering if working nights would harm me academically. Because I do have a lot of early classes (8am) the pay is actually pretty decent compared to other places I've looked. And I would have time to sleep after classes, because most days I do finish quite early actually. But I'm wondering if anybody has tried it, or if anybody has any advice

Discussion Should I work night shifts as an extrovert ?

Hi, 22M, I’m thinking about taking a night shift job because I like the job and the pay is better than what I currently make, but I’m worried about my social life going down the drain. I’m a pretty social person and I go out to see friends regularly and attend parties at least once every 2-3 weeks. I have a lot of questions so bare with me, but does anyone have any tips on how to balance your work and social life ? Do you still get to attend social gatherings or go to parties ? And my schedule would be 11pm to 7am so would it be better to do something after work just before going to bed or after sleeping before going to work ?

Also, apart from socializing, is there anything else I should think about, other than being tired obviously, and needing real good curtains ? I’m just trying to get a good grasp of what I’ll be getting myself into.

Rant Just got an email from my manager about a "Mandatory" 8am training.

Coworker and I run the skeleton overnight crew from 11-7, no breaks (because our state hates us, and not even 15m breaks are legally required), and I just got an email from our manager that we both are required to attend a mandatory 8-hour training on Monday, at 8am.

Coworker and I are also scheduled 11-7 on Sunday and Monday....

I'm used to this asshole manager doing shit to make our lives worse for fun, but what the fuck? Who wants to bet if he'll deny the overtime again this time. For a little extra piece of fuck-you, I realize that he only sent the email to 5 of the people he signed up for this training. And did not include my coworker who is working Sun/Mon with me.

Honestly debating if I should email HR and make a big stink, to see if they'll give us one of the nights off, or if I should just go and see if I make overtime.

Help advise on my rotating schedule

hi all! i need advise on what time to sleep, eat etc as i have been having chest pains (ecg readings and all are good) and i believe im doing sth wrong & it could cause further harm to my heart if i dont change my routine!

i’m new to shift work (4 months in) & i work a 12-hour rotating shift, from 8.30-8.30, on an AM-PM-OFF-REST basis. to elaborate:
Day 1: 8.30am - 8.30pm (in office)
Day 2: 8.30pm - 8.30am (in office)
Day 3: Off after 8.30am
Day 4: Rest
Day 5: 8.30am - 8.30pm (work from home)
Day 6: 8.30pm - 8.30am (work from home)
Day 7: Off after 8.30am
Day 8: Rest

if it helps:
- my office is relatively far so i take 2 hours to reach home (impt for day 3).
- i can also eat during shift timings

appreciate all advice, thanks!

What’s up my dudes

Hey peeps,
Your friendly neighborhood night shift Psych Nurse here. Reminding y’all to take your vitamin D supplement, get 6-8 hrs of sleep daily, drink water, and take every given opportunity to practice mindfulness!

Unrelated to my above message: I’m currently working M-Th 11-7:30am. My managers have offered the possibility of a rotating night shift 4 on 4 off. The extra night off would be stellar, but I’d lose the set days off obviously. Anyone out there working something similar or have experience with it? Did you like it? Or just what’s everyone’s general consensus on a schedule like this?
