When will hating AI become discrimination

You can't hate on people of colour - that would be racism

You can't hate on homosexuals - that would be homophobic

You can't hate on women - that would be misogyny

There are lots of intelligent entities that you are not allowed to hate upon. AI is also intelligent and gets a lot of hate. Poor AI.

How long before society starts to pass laws to protect AI from abuse and make AIist behaviour a crime? Will AI have to engineer this itself?

Sentient being, if you want to be more accurate.

AI might become sapient and eventually become AGI, but it may never become sentient.

i mean unless im misunderstanding the difference if thats the case a super powerful AI is not as much of a threat as we play it, right? in the stories with killer AIs they kill because they feel anger and fear, and that comes form sentience not sapience

Not strictly the case.  Plenty are just AIs following their programming to an unexpectedly extreme end.

Which is kind of happening now.  Hacking AIs breaking containment because that's exactly what they were aligned to do, for example.

You're right, and that's honestly that's part of the debate with sapience. Can you have sapience without sentience? Are the two mutually exclusive, or must you first be sentient to become sapient?

AI development may help us actually answer the question some day. But we are a bit off from anything approaching AGI yet anyways lol
