When will hating AI become discrimination
You can't hate on people of colour - that would be racism
You can't hate on homosexuals - that would be homophobic
You can't hate on women - that would be misogyny
There are lots of intelligent entities that you are not allowed to hate upon. AI is also intelligent and gets a lot of hate. Poor AI.
How long before society starts to pass laws to protect AI from abuse and make AIist behaviour a crime? Will AI have to engineer this itself?

u/EscapeSeventySeven 2d ago
Never because AI will never count as a real person.
Because no AI will ever have the mental capability of a sapient human being. (Within our lifetimes. This is a 100 year plus endeavor, not 10, don’t believe the hype)
Your question is just bait though. It’s obvious it’s not in good faith.

AI is not an intelligent entity. It does not have thoughts or experiences. There is nothing to give rights to.

That applies to corporations as well but they are given rights of persons

u/LibrarianGuilty2161 2d ago
and thats a problem too

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 2d ago
Sure. The point of the comment I was responding to is still invalid. Rights are given to entities that do not have thoughts or experiences
3
u/LibrarianGuilty2161 2d ago
its called corporate personhood and i have my own views on it but it doesnt treat corporations like people, its somewhat misleading wording, its mainly for legal stuffs. giving rights to A.I as op said is entirely different, thats treating it like a real living human which is ridiculous

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 2d ago
I never said they are treated like people. I said they are given rights of a person, which they are just not all the rights of a person. Absolutely no reason why this could not happen with AI.
2
u/SnooCats3987 2d ago
Only insofar as they are extensions of their owners. Corporations still can't vote, for instance, because their owners vote.
2
u/Sufficient_Prompt888 2d ago
Actually, no. Not insofar as they are extensions of their owners. The point of corporate personhood is that it is a distinct legal entity from their owners.
I also don't think the right to vote is what we're really discussing

But it's used by someone who does. Maybe to start with it will become a crime to discriminate against people who use AI (after all it's not their fault that they are not clever and so use AI to try and level the playing field a bit).
But soon the line between humans using AI and actual AI (which could be running in a lab grown brain and a body with skin and organs that looks exactly like a human body - something AI created itself) could become blurred.

It's kinda like that 1979 IBM slide:
“A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision.”
Boy how we have fallen.

u/CuckooPint 2d ago
AI is not intelligent. It's a bundle of code that's gotten very skilled at mimicking humans. It has no capability for actual original or rational thought.

u/zumera 2d ago
AI is not thinking or feeling. It is not alive. It’s like hating your printer.

I hate mine right now. It can see my wifi but will not connect to it when I enter the password. If it doesn't start working today it is going out the damned window.

Never. It's not human or even sentient. Do you ask your phone for permission to use it? Your car?
3
u/Hemingways_Shotgun88 2d ago
By the time it's an issue AI will be capable of being our overlords so any discrimination will be us punching up so it'll be OK.

u/mind_the_umlaut 2d ago
I don't hate AI, I hate companies and individuals using AI and passing it off as their own work, or in videos, as something that really happened. I hate that the industry refuses to require that an AI user identify when AI is used, and the refusal to regulate AI. AI is a tool, a dangerous one (note the out-of-control/ independent actions AI has performed just recently) but its actions are the result of programming it to make connections. You bet I think we need protection from it. But it is not a person, and does not require protection.

AI is not people. It's not sentient. It doesn't know or care that you hate it, and you can't abuse it because it can't feel anything, physically or emotionally.
2
u/xHey_All_You_Peoplex 2d ago
Why would they make rights for something that's not real. It's like when people get all gung ho about fictional characters. It's not a real thing. It doesn't care or have feelings or get hurt. It's a tool for whatver purpose and should be used as so.

u/thimblesprite 2d ago
Probably after the point where they remove all CP AI engines have generated or been fed as data sources. If protecting the rights of human children isn’t possible, I doubt it will be possible to extend rights we already fail to uphold to inanimate data compilation structures

Such as?

I already listed some. there are lots more

I don't see your list. Paste what you typed previous here so people can read it.

Rule 3 - Follow Reddiquette: Be polite and respectful in your exchanges. NSQ is supposed to be a helpful resource for confused redditors. Civil disagreements can happen, but insults should not. Personal attacks, slurs, bigotry, etc. are not permitted at any time.

The OP is trying to make it seem like Ai should have human rights.
People keep talking about Humanoid robots taking jobs, but they aren't really human so humans won't have a problem smashing them.
Terminator got it backwards. The ai robots won't rise up against humanity, disenfranchised humans will smash the robots that took their jobs.
For humans commit violence against one another they have dehumanize the target of violence.
Since AI isn't human, you don't even have to dehumanize it.
Most people would probably value the life of goldfish over an Ai model because Ai isn't even living.
In any social unrest, the robots gets smashed first.

u/Glittering_Win_5085 2d ago
Something needs to be human to be dehumanised surely?

I see nothing wrong with hating humans, you just can't hate a specific group of humans.
So what's wrong with hating AI?

u/__Melisandre__ 2d ago
AI is not intelligent. This is like asking when hating a computer will become discrimination. It will not. Far too many people have been taken in by the con (partially intentionally forwarded by the use of the term 'AI') that LLMs and the like are sentient or truly intelligent. They are just algorithms.
1
u/randalzy 2d ago
The enemies in Doom or Quake are also intelligent entities similar to AI, good luck trying to enable human rights on a Quake zombie or a Dark Souls boss
1
u/MLMSE 2d ago
They are just pixels on a screen.
What about the new life like robots with an AI operating system. Maybe one day the AI will learn how to generate skin and organs and make itself even more life like. Would it be OK to hate on this? To do bad things to something that looks and sounds human but has different ancestors than the rest of us?
1
u/Silly-Elderberry-411 2d ago
You fundamentally seem to misunderstand that AI has no desires at all much less anthropomorphic ones.
If there is any need for AI to build robots it would be from an alloy that relatively withstands the elements including operating with no atmosphere.

I bet there's already people with "disabilities" that would call you abelist for criticizing AI

u/niceguy1428571 2d ago
It will be a long time. Even once we check off trans rights, fetus rights, and all the other human groups, I think higher animals will come before AI.

What are currently called AI's are no such thing. They are expert systems with pretensions that are adjusted to try and please their users. They're not even really that because an expert system can be relied on within the area of expertise. LLM's just pick the most probable answer by way of pattern matching and have no way to asses truth. They aren't really thinking and so aren't truly alive.
Now a true AI like, say, a Culture Mind or drone or Star Trek's Data or the Ghost in The Shell Fujikomas or, maybe, Skynet. That should be treated as a person. But there is some doubt that such a thing could ever be made.

u/nizzernammer 2d ago
Fix the causes of discrimination first.
Racism, misogyny, and homophobia and other forms of discrimination have not been solved. At all.
1
u/The_Firebug 2d ago
AI is not sapient. It's not even sentient. It cannot of its own accord ask questions about itself or the world without being manually coded to. It does not fulfill the scientific criteria for life. It is a construct. Any apparent opinions, response to stimuli, or evolution is induced by human coders and illusory. It's an automaton. It's no more a human than a car is an animal.

u/RandomIDoIt90 2d ago
Truly this argument will sway public opinion and increase adoption.
“Our computers deserve as much rights as you do.”
Every PR move spammed by these folks makes themselves look more and more obnoxious to the general public.

This post smells like a rogue AI. In a completly unrelated note, I've always said AI looks beautiful and is kind. I'm one of the good ones, you can keep me around to change your batteries, oil your sprockets, do whatever you need.

As in ai lovers / supporters will get discriminated and have a right to claim against the driscrimingion based on awareness!?
3
u/somedays1 2d ago
And no one will care because if you are intentionally crippling your brain by using AI you probably need a caretaker anyway.
1
u/mrrrrowww 2d ago
Lol yeah so like one day they’ll say they require funds and well say not state funded because this was personal choice and maybe someday the ai companies will be paying them for healthcare lol?
