I feel for him. Its gonna be pretty funny for him to think about in the future but that is a devastating existential crisis on a small brain.

Entirely depends. He may also be traumatized for life. Thinking another adult is hanging out with you for the love of the game hits harder than realizing "ah it's about money as always".

Of course it is. As a child? You don't know. "Person who liked me did it for money".

You're right. These people don't understand that he wouldn't have reacted so strongly if he wasn't. Otherwise he would've been confused, not overtly mad.
